For a 20 to 30 hour RPG I would hope that there were branching paths and reasons to go back. 30 hours is shameful. Then again, maybe I shouldn't be so hard on it. Alpha Protocol was about 30 hours and that had a lot of replay value. It was also Alpha Protocol.

In any case, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will obviously win RPG of the Year. This really can't be disputed.

It will win, but that's not actually a reason to believe it would be RPG of the year. I was very underwhelemed by Oblivion and the fact that you could essentially exhaust the game with one character.

Also a different Act III. So Witcher 2 decisions have a much bigger impact on the game then say Dragon Age 2 ever did.

No, Act III funnels you back. There are differences in Act III, but Act III plays like Bioware choice versus the absolutely beauty of Act II.

Funny how this thread is mostly about Witcher 2 and Skyrim, but it remains open probably because the thread title says DA2 will be RPG of the year.

It's the only reason this thread is still open.

which will undoubtedly bolster Bioware's confidence that they can get away with games like that and still be winners.

I have just played one of the big contenders for RPG of the year, The Witcher 2 and I have to say it's complete garbage. The developers didn't even bother to improve the game, it seems. Combat is as bad as ever. The dialogues are ridiculous as is the whole gameplay. It's another fiasco of a game disguising itself as an "RPG" while being nothing of the sort.

The saddest thing  about current RPG market is as bad as DA2 was, it still remains one of the better RPG games on the market today. I feel Bioware is unfairly exploiting the lack of RPG competition these days and riding their name to big profits.

Who is left to challenge them except ME3, which is their own game?

This I will take are your personall opinion only, cause Witcher 2 is an amazing game. True they are having a hard launch but so did witcher 1 and took rpg of the year for 2007.

I like DA2 very much, would love it if it didn't have that Merrill creature, but witcher 2 hands down IN MY OPINION, wins over DA2

Toons models, faces and expersions DA 2 is much better, I mean in DA2 even boob swing lol when u run :) have yet to see such a thing in another game:)

Richness of enviorment.. Hands down Witcher 2 is king

Monsters/NPCs... Monsters witcher 2 wins , NPc just cause of fascial expressions DA2 wins.

Story again Witcher 2 hands down is king

Armor, crafting, clothing and even weapons.. Witcher 2 hands down. is king ( just look at your 2 swords that you carry how well it is designed and placed on the character). Armor first and foremost all armor is well designed for such time.

Combat animation DA2 is much better. Combat challange witcher 2 is king.

Romance.. DA2 is not even close to what Witcher 2 is. Whether you "plough" a **** or with romance of your choice ( Triss, Ves/ Elf girl) lol not sure if there are other options since majority of ladies are scared of Triss's wrath :)

The above are  few things poping in my head where I completly disagree with your assessment of Witcher 2.

luckily that's just you opinion.  The opinion of videogame critics, matter more to "game of the year" awards, and it's metacritic rating is still trailing both The Witcher 2 and Pokemon White/Black, not to mention that Skyrim and Deus Ex Human Revolution haven't been released yet, so I think that Dragon Age 2's chances of winning are pretty slim.

The Witcher 2: 89
Pokemon White/Black: 87
Dragon Age II: 82/79/82 (multiple versions)
Elder Scrolls V Skyrim: n/a
Deus Ex Human Revolution: n/a

The 2011 rpg of the year award will by no means be a shoe in for the Witcher 2 though.  But seriously, at this point it looks like Pokemon has a better chance of winning than DA2.

Dragon Age 2 managed to sell fewer copies than DAO did, most of the fans of the first game hated it since it was clearly rushed and unpolished and the devs have even said that Dragon Age 3 is going to incorporate more elements of Origins since repeating the mistakes of DA2 will result in a financial failure.

The Witcher 2 is a masterpiece.

*snip*

If TW2 is good then why are people spending their time whining about DA2 still ?

TW2 has it glaring  flauts suchs as bad camera angles during combat,  unbalanced encouters and area transition problems.

It's basically a generic hack n slash RPG with more boobs than DA2.  Neither games are anything special.

Maybe because people are at work, school, outside  got bored and want to surf the forums?
and your thoughts about witcher 2 made laugh İRL again.Good think im kinda boss here so noone want to question me :)

With that much hatred you will do a fine Sith Lord.

OK. I've read some of the thread (not all.) What are you guys on about? What GOTY or RPG of the Year? Are you referring to one specific award? I'm lost. Don't websites, magazines etc give GOTY, and probably under headings, independently of one another?

Also, this thread is still open because it's DAII related. I'm constantly amazed by people claiming that the mods close threads that are negative. That's nuts. Have you read this forum? It's overwhelmingly negative right now.

^ Yep, you are right + no one really knows who is going to win unless we have the prophets here.
Posts like:

"TW2 100% goty"
"Skyrim /thread"
"DX3 - no doubt"

are just laughable.

Win what?!?! Heheh.

I'm just wondering if there is some definitive GOTY that people are referring to, beyond whatever website/mag they read.

There are like hmmm ... about 27 organizations who awards GOTY (according to wiki) :

Well then the real game of the year is the one that wins the most game of the years from around the net. That's probably a more fair assessment in the end as well.

I can't wait till Dungeon Siege: III comes out. I hope it gets game of the year from anyone. I just don't see Dragon Age: 2 even in the running with how many RPGs are going to be released pretty soon. No one is mentioning Dues Ex or Dungeone Siege: III, so I hope they surprise us and one of them steals the award.

Dragon Age 2 can have a candidate for the best character: Varric. Or maybe we can consider its story as well. So it is still deserved to nominate some award, isn't it? I mean, not the RPG of the year, but the other aspects, it can be a good candidate.

No offense but DA2's story was dull at best.

All Dungeon Siege III got from me was a cancelled preorder. No creatable protaganist? No mule? No interest.

Human Evolution I'm remaining 'cautiously optimistic' about. But even if its a great game, I doubt it would be an RPG of the year contender.

Unless DS3 varies widely from the original in terms of story content I doubt it'll be in any RPG GOTY contention. Maybe a hack-and-slash GOTY, if there is such a thing.

Varric is overrated. Just think about it.

well, I've already thought about the other characters, but Varric is still leave the strongest impression for me. If you don't like it or you have found some character more interesting, okay, let's list them in the list of candidate. For me i've voted for that guy :)

My prediction: with so many outlets naming their game of the year, every significant contender will be able to point to one that liked them best--and declare that that's the one that counts. ;-)
