Deus Ex: HR
Skyrim
Witcher 2
They're all contenders. Not to mention Diablo III if it comes out.

The jury is still out on Deus Ex, we'll see if we get an invisible war or not. I don't trust Squeenix.

I agree Ish. If anything it will be between Portal 2 and SKyrim IMHO, tho Portal 2 is so far my GOTY.ishmaeltheforsaken wrote...
I really do think DAII is fantastic. But I don't think it's GOTY quality. I agree that even if it were the sole contender, it wouldn't deserve it.
The Witcher won't win GOTY either.
Skyrim will. And I'll effing vote for it if I can.

You honestly think TW2 is worse than DA2, and that TW2 won't be nominated while DA2 will??
Ahahahahahahahahahaha...hahahahaha...ha......ehhem...hahahahahaha...
Made my day!
TW2 is absolute garbage. The combat system, the magic and alchemy haven't been improved at all. In fact, it's more frustrating, annoying and anti intuitive. Dragon Age 2 has somehow managed to be better despite having a billion flaws.
Don't know what you've been drinking but this guy trolls better!

Now mark my words and if I'm wrong feel free to mock me at will, when it happens. The world has never seen or played anything like TW2, until now. By the end of the year it will be a rollercoster, just like LotR:RotK at the Academy Awards few years back!

nvm, I like this game already..
However, player customization is not present, so no.

If a game like DA2 is a contender with recycled maps out the wazoo and a plot that is far from cohesive....then either all these other games are a joke (which I hear is not the case at least regarding W2) or the system is a farce. There's just no way a game with as many blatant flaws and problems due to being rushed should be able to win.

Yeh like others have mentioned D3 has been put back to 2012, beta starts at the end of this year.
I don't think Dues Ex HR will make RPG of the year but I do think Skyrim and TW2 might. As for someone mentioning the Zombie RPG I don't think that will either due to the massive flood of zombie games on all genres right now most people are put off by zombies for time being.

DA2 won't win, but I agree that it'll be nominated. You simply can't leave a BioWare game off the list, no matter how underwhelming.Maria Caliban wrote...

The Witcher won't win. It might get critical acclaim, but it's probably going to sell all of five copies. Nobody will care by the time the award season rolls around. (They might get user choice, depending which of the communities can spam the most votes, but Skyrim will probably bury them too.)
Skyrim will win. I've never played any of the series, but I get the sense it could be crap in a box and they'll still wipe the floor with the rest of the nominees.
It won't. Mike Morhaime said they're still targeting 2011, but no Blizzard game has ever made its target date. Something will push it back to 1H2012.Maria Caliban wrote...

It will win best PC game of 2012, but ME3 will sew up the best RPG.

I know I could be wrong but the FPS with RPG elements if wasn't for fact had a few great pure RPG and action RPG types then maybe. I dunno I just think it won't, just chalked it up to personal opinion.

I'm personally very happy with the Witcher 2 as an Action RPG, excited for Dungeon Siege 3 as an Action RPG, Deus Ex as a shooter with RPG elements and Skyrim as a Sandbox RPG. It's a good year for hybrids. With Bioshock: Infinity, Risen 2 and Mass Effect 3 coming in 2012, that year ought to be interesting too.
In terms of a non-hybrid approach, Dead State and Age of Decadence have my eye.
There's also hope that if Dungeon Siege 3 sells well, Obsidian will use the Onyx engine to create their own RPG IP, or get something like Icewind Dale 3, or even a new Planescape game. If interviews with Feargus Urquhart are anything to go by, he's been pitching ideas at Atari for a licensed D&D RPG. Maybe he'll get one.

Someone is gonna give DA2 a GOTY award, I guarantee it. Because its fun. Video games are supposed to be fun, not to everyone, but some people. And thats okay.
Outside of games like Superman 64, every game is fun to "some people." That's hardly something to base awards on.

Skyrim will mop the floor with all other competition, whether it deserves to or not.
I have to agree with it will probably win though mop the floor is bit much imho and more likley if it's a vote based system then will be around I'm guessing 1/3rd ahead of Witcher 2 in votes. However if by some unforseen circumstance it gets delayed for polishing until early 2012 then I think the Witcher 2 will win. If it doesn't get delayed then yes I think Skyrim will win. DA2 will not win unless EA buys the judging panal or voters.

Since then, Bethseda alienated Morrowind fans and publicly mocked them, alienated Star Trek fans, alienated and abused Fallout fans, they've burned alot of bridges. Now they're removing more RPG features because Todd still doesn't understand what an RPG is.
Well, I don't follow the Elder Scrolls with any regularity, so I can't comment on that, but "alienated and abused Fallout fans"? Yeah, if by Fallout fans you mean the rather small and extremely vocal minority that hangs out on No Mutants Allowed. They can sometimes give the impression that old school Fallout fans universally hated F3, which is just not true. The game may have a severely broken base, but I'd say the faction that liked Fallout 3 was and is much bigger than the ones that hated it.
And then New Vegas came out, and being back under the control of Black Isle veterans alone gave it a much better reception from the NMA crowd.

You do realise that The Witcher 1 sold around 1.5 million copies right? A completely unknown European studio with their first ever game - a PC exclusive, and an RPG (NOT a shooter) - sold 1.5 million copies. That's pretty incredible.
My prediction: TW2 will sell twice as many copies as DA2 has before this year has ended. At a bare minimum.
