Sadly, DA2 will get RPG of the year...

Whether it's better or worse than Witcher 2, Skyrim is going to win far more goty awards simply because it will be reviewed more.

Well, I don't follow the Elder Scrolls with any regularity, so I can't comment on that, but "alienated and abused Fallout fans"?
They aliented me at least. Fallout 3 will never be the level of awesome Fallout 1 and 2 were. The game is fantastic even with out mods.

You can mod that out, and the time pressure is actually pretty lax. It's really the mental part of it all.
Which was intentional. The Vault wouldn't suddenly have just enough water to survive until the moment you fixed their problems.

edit: and Mrcrusty, true enough...it does make it far more realistic than, say, in Morrowind: "There's a horrendous blight on Red Mountain, and all life will be extinguished by Dagoth Ur and his seven evil brothers unless you, the Chosen One, stop them once and for all!--Unless, of course, you retrieve this random Dunmer's pants first, or these scattered herbs to make some random potion! As long as you don't count digital sales, I'll let you "win" on 2.95M sales. It's a little steep, but it's also the SoA XP cap, and this is a BioWare forum. House rules.
What was the time limit in Fallout for again? Like the vault was failing or something? All I remember is that by the time I got to the end (David Warner totally got shafted; it was impossible to even talk to him) I just wanted to shoot the master and quit already (but I had skill enough to just tell it the super mutants were sterile). And the game is buggy as hell (the sequel was even worse).
I still remember the mutant in Necropolis or whatever thinking his lieutenant was named Lew (it took me forever to even get it too--Lew Tenant). Fun stuff.

Pretty much this. The time limit in FO did not bug me at all because it made sense and really pulled me into the game.mrcrusty wrote...

Not really, some sites will give DA2 RPG of the year, just like some sites will give TW2 RPG and even GOTY where other sites might give Skyrim those awards. Not all sites will agree with eachother. I remember when some sites gave Halo 3 GOTY when it came outAgamo45 wrote...
Standards have really gone down in the industry if such shoddy work like DA2 is rewarded with RPG of the year. I just don't see it happening.

Q: Is that actually based on anything? Or is it just sort of assuming that it will be Morrowind 2 rather than Oblivion 0.5?
I base my opinion of Skyrim on three things: BGS's history, what I've seen of the game so far, and the fact that they've promised a launch day SDK. That's really all I need to know.
Okay, you and I haven't always seen eye to eye, and our sarcasm has been...yeah. But I have to agree with you. I think Skyrim is going to kick ass. I don't know if it will be better than TW2, but it is going to rock, I agree with you.
I am loving the heck out of Witcher 2. DA2 I got 2 playthroughs (mage was my fav). And I am lusting after Skyrim. DAO, TW2, Skyrim...to play over and over and over again. Yes my precsious!
As to DA2 winning GOTY? Sorry OP (and devs) I don't think so. Many enjoyed it, many were meh (me), some hated it outright. I don't think so. But DA3 I hope will be kick ass too, so I can say DAO, TW2, Skyrim, and DA3 to play over, and over, and over again.

Made my day!
TW2 is absolute garbage. The combat system, the magic and alchemy haven't been improved at all. In fact, it's more frustrating, annoying and anti intuitive. Dragon Age 2 has somehow managed to be better despite having a billion flaws.
Don't know what you've been drinking but this guy trolls better!
Now mark my words and if I'm wrong feel free to mock me at will, when it happens. The world has never seen or played anything like TW2, until now. By the end of the year it will be a rollercoster, just like LotR:RotK at the Academy Awards few years back!
nvm, I like this game already..
However, player customization is not present, so no.
ROFL! Yep love that troll! I have to admit Operating that the lack of character customization doesn't bother me as much as I expected (I prefer to play women since I am one, go fig). But Geralt is one bad ass mo'fo. I feel epic just playing him. Surprise, surprise, surprise, because I thought, of all the things about TW2, that would irk me no end, or even be a game breaker. I can't believe it isn't.
Now, when Skyrim comes out and I can choose, it might tarnish my love of playing Geralt. But right now...I am one awesome damn person, and I am a freak most people treat badly or talk down to. But I can kick some serious ass.I am epic without a big baddie or saving a town.
Now I am a hero, as opposed to me and my everyday job. ROFL!

Yes, definitely.
That's one thing RPGs in particular could improve on. How they handle the passage of time. I would definitely love some negative consequences if I have a super imporant quest and I choose to spend my time mucking about doing something else instead.
This was really jarring in Oblivion. If you choose not to finish main quest, the Oblivion Gates just sit outside the cities forever. I can imagine some of the Dremora banter.
"When is that guy getting here? We've been waiting outside for months."
"Hush up, we still get paid as long as we're supposed to be invading. Dagon didn't hire any accountants to do the math for him."
"Fine, I get paid, but my wife was due to give birth a couple of weeks ago. Is she okay? I want to see my baby."
"I'm just jealous of Mankar Camoran. He was supposed to come back to work, what, 2 months ago? But he's still in his Paradise on paid vacation."

which will undoubtedly bolster Bioware's confidence that they can get away with games like that and still be winners.
I have just played one of the big contenders for RPG of the year, The Witcher 2 and I have to say it's complete garbage. The developers didn't even bother to improve the game, it seems. Combat is as bad as ever. The dialogues are ridiculous as is the whole gameplay. It's another fiasco of a game disguising itself as an "RPG" while being nothing of the sort.
The saddest thing about current RPG market is as bad as DA2 was, it still remains one of the better RPG games on the market today. I feel Bioware is unfairly exploiting the lack of RPG competition these days and riding their name to big profits.
Who is left to challenge them except ME3, which is their own game?
Skyrim? The Elder Scrolls games often win Game of Year so ....

It's a funny quest, but also a bit sad when you think about it. How could you possibly explain it to someone that, you know, with the wife and all... just for a prize?
I imagine it would be horrible to see, you know... especially since trolls are pretty intelligent creatures, apparently.

Although the time limit was linked to an important plot point in the game, I would hardly call it's imposition upon a player a 'role playing element' - anymore than I would call an arbitrary number of lives/continues before game over forever in a SNES game a 'role playing feature'.
It did add a bit of extra excitement to the game though (especially in terms of trading the two time conditions off against one another - before it was patched to remove the second one).
