The guys at ZAM have posted a little feature piece on what they think a Dragon Age MMO might look like. Pretty interesting take on the idea, especially the multi-unit combat thing.

Let me know what you think.

I think it isn't worth clicking. Not every game has to be an MMO.

Yeah, I've never found that creating an MMO of a game made it any way better for the player, only better in profit for the developer. I'll keep my single player DAO, thanks.

BioWare is the creator of at least one MMO now, and is helping to operate three others. Doesn't it make sense that they'd want to leverage what they built with DA:O?

Why the hate on MMOs? They can be a great source of fun with likeminded people. MMOs are not a replacement for singleplayer games. Both have their merits and strong-points and they are not mutually exclusive. a DA MMO could be quite fun. In fact one of the strong points of an MMO is the massive amount of player characters in the same gameworld. In a gameworld you like, whether it's the DA universe, Warcraft universe or <[ insert universe here ]>. Just as in reallife you'll meet pricks and cool people you could enjoy hanging out with in said universe.

I hope they keep DA:O a singleplayer only game. The game is really good at the moment and they might mess it up once they turn it into a MMO. It surely has potential for a MMO with its rich lore but I can't really imagine it as a MMO tbh.

Please, if there is a god, do not let this ever happen. It'll be like Warcraft all over again. Warcraft 4 will never happen, thanks to WoW.

Why? Why? Why? I mean, their are already two dark fantasy MMO's out their with another high fantasy mmo in the form of WoW, what distinguishing trait would give this game appeal as a MMO? The non-mmo viable combat system? Or the non mmo-viable character interactions? Or possibly the completely-overlapping with Kotor MMO story system.

My thoughts on a DA MMO sung to the tune of (and totally ripping off) Teen Angst, by ******:

I don’t know what the world may need,

But I’m sure as hell that is starts with me.

And that’s a wisdom,

I’ve laughed at.

I don’t know what the world may want,

But more PVP it surely don’t.

So I think I’ll go and figure out some min-max.

Cause, what the world needs now

Is the same kind of gaming.

Cause a new one would take too much thought.

Cause, what the world needs now

Is another MMO

Like I need a hole in my head.

I don’t know what the world may need,

But an RPG is a good start for me.

Think I’ll join the forums,

To be surly.

I don’t know what the world may want,

But some singe player could comfort us.

Then I wouldn't get pwned in the face much.

Cause, what the world needs now

Are some true words of wisdom

Like la la la la la la la la la la

Cause, what the world needs now

Is another MMO

Like I need a hole in my head.

I don’t know what the world may need,

And I never grasped game complexities.

I’d be happy just to finish the story.

And, I don’t know what the world may want,

But some Dragon Age in the dead of night

I think could certainly raise my spirits.

Cause what the world needs now

Is a new World of Warcraft

So I can pay every month.

Cause what the world needs now

Is another MMO

Like I need a hole in my head.

MMOs have to be fairly linear (i.e., very limited dialogue and story options), can't have constant cutscenes, and can't allow pausing. Remove those things from DA:O and it's a very different game.

Nice post, Sloth. I was actually able to sing along to the lyrics.

Let me point out ANOTHER BioWare game that's hoping to change what you just said:

http://www.swtor.com/

I'm sure they can make a version of DA as good (or better) than what they're doing with Star Wars.

You mean the a combat system and character interactions that are similar to what Bioware is currently putting into Old Republic?

Dragon Age could work as an MMO, and it doesn't have to replace future single player versions of Dragon Age if EA and Bioware do things properly.  Making something into a MMO doesn't ruin the series, what ruins the series is bringing in people who aren't fans to work on things like lore and then endinf up with the WoW effect is what ruins a series.

As much as I think it could work, I don't see EA and Bioware developing another MMO so close to the release of Old Republic.  Now it may be that they develop single player Dragon Age games for another 10 years and then impliment a MMO but only time will tell.

No, we do not need a DAO MMO.

We need DAO 2 and DAO 3 and lots of expansions and DLC in between.

If Bioware can develop DAO, ME, and Star Wars, I'd bet they would be able to set up the development of a DAO MMO without interfering with the single player development.

This was taken from the SWTOR website. Seems interesting, if they can make it work well i think it will be the dawning of the new style of MMO... one that has some serious ammount of RPG elements.

Choose to be a Jedi, a Sith, or from a variety of other classic Star Wars roles, and make decisions which define your personal story and determine your path down the light or dark side of the Force. Along the way you will befriend courageous companions who will fight at your side or possibly betray you based on your actions. Together, you will battle enemies in dynamic Star Wars combat and team up with other players to overcome incredible challenges.

I think i will wait and play it before making any judgments.

Actually. Weren't they making that?
But I say let BioWare focus on their Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO. See how that works out, personally I think it looks great, and then we can talk about potential Mass Effect or Dragon Age MMO's.
