Yes, there are countless MMOs out there but with the time and effort Bioware put into their games is just beautiful.
If they tried their hand in making a MMORPG, who knows what they could accomplish.

To me, Dragon Age: Origins polishes hugely on the basics of RPG gaming for single players.
While there are still so many single player RPGs around, Bioware still made a game above most.
So while there are still so many MMOs around, Bioware could create an MMO above most.

@ SW:TOR comment:

LOL that could end up very cool. Imagine two players teaming together, their companions not aggreeing and beginning to scoff at the player and just taking a hike "When you're done fooling around with -playername- you can find me at home."

Playerhousing done right (As in Ultima Online) would be godlike.

I'd much rather Bioware spend their resources on creating high quality DLC, and eventually a DA2. I have never and will never spend a penny or an hour of my time playing an mmo.

Look, there are a bajillion mmos out there already. If you love that sort of thing, good for you. Go play one of them. But let us solo gamers have something too. Single player crpgs aren't exactly thick on the ground these days.

Why is everyone like "I don't like it so I don't want you to have it"? MMOs.. Combat logs.. You guys realize how selfish you are? MMO development doesn't have to mean you can't have single-player experience. Like I said before, they are not mutually exclusive. Heck even I would get bored if MMOs were the only thing left to play. There's time for a wonderful singleplayer experience like DA:O is and there's time to hook up with some buds and play together in an MMO in your favourite universe.

The one thing that I absolutely detest the most about making Dragon Age into an MMO would be the fact that all sense of roleplaying would go out the door with most of the players that would join the servers there. Sure, there might be roleplaying servers only, but there will always be those people who are playing for "koolz lootz" rather than the story. Although story will be a great "pillar" for TOR, I highly doubt it'll cure the hordes of lootz hoarders who want moar. That's really an immersion breaker. I sincerely hope Bioware keeps Thedas a single player-oriented adventure world, or perhaps go the route of NWN and have smaller forms of multiplayer in player-run servers.

As you were typing this, somebody posted an identical topic in the MW2 forums.

And while I was posting this, somebody posted an identical topic in the L4D2 forums.

Not an MMO - a solid multiplayer component a la NWN1 so that we can make our own persistent worlds.

Give the community the tools and we will create RP worlds far better than anything WoW has to offer... just as we have been doing with NWN1 for 7 years.

Yeah, I've never found that creating an MMO of a game made it any way better for the player, only better in profit for the developer. I'll keep my single player DAO, thanks.

You're kidding right? There's only a tiny handful of people who actually reap huge benefits with MMOs, everyone else is losing or has lost a crap load of money making these..

At least they are learning you can't over spend on the dream that people 'might' subscribe to your game.

As for the Dragon Age MMO, it MAY happen, in 2020.... This just not the right time they are indeed better off concentrating on single player and their one fledging MMO, IF TOR does very well then we can start thinking of a Dragon Age MMO.

This is kinda different though for a single player gaming company to try it's hand at online gaming, look at Funcom one can debate whether both their MMOs paid off or are huge money sinks... Posted Image In the meanwhile we poor Longest Journey fans are left in the dust pining for the ending game to this supposed trilogy.

I'm not bitter...! Much.

Nah I'm with BewareTheDrow, Dragon Age is best as a a normal RPG. Epicness is hard to interpret into MMO's now a days but i might be wrong since Bioware is the best developer that ever existed. Ever. Even in Jedi times.

Simply put.. Just because something could be, doesn't mean it should be. We have enough MMOs, with plenty more in development. Not every single IP needs to become one. Leave the good, solo story RPG's alone please. I would never have played DA if it was an MMO, because I play RPG's like this distinctly to get away from the MMO culture, and other players in general. Sometimes it's nice to sit back, and be alone with NPCs that aren't constantly complaining about DPS meters.

I understand everyone is different, I just really hope this never happens, since it will ruin the single player portion of DA. We don't need BioWare becoming another Blizzard.

Or Bioware could hire a new dev team and then ahve one team to do solo player games for every one, and then another team to do a MMO version for those that want such a thing.  See, the two don't need to conflict.

I like how he was going to delve deep into how DAO could become a great MMO and just created a five bullet-point report with a little yada-yada for how EVERYTHING can be made into an MMO.

I'm sorry, but his loose conjecture and dumb assumptions kinda, if you knew ANYTHING about how games work, point out he has no freakin' idea what he's talking about.

no thanks; they should just stick to the system they have now. Naturally there is always room for improvement, but never a change to... that.

The guys at ZAM have posted a little feature piece on what they think a Dragon Age MMO might look like. Pretty interesting take on the idea, especially the multi-unit combat thing.

http://www.zam.com/s...tml?story=20588

Let me know what you think.

No thanks!

to many fantasy based MMORPGs and you cant make a ADULT MMORPG so the atmoshpere and content would get diminished turning a great game into well WOW!

SW:TOR will be the last MMORPG I ever play.

Use to say Id play a Mass Effect MMORPG but with the new more shooter freindly rules, even that would hold no interest now.

I dont think Dragon Age would work as a MMO - not enough content for a persistent game. Too many 'zones' and loading sequences. Areas are too small, and the entire mechanics are wrong for MMO play. Dragon Age as a game simply could not work as a MMO. You could create a MMO based on the DA lore - but you would make this from scratch not from the current game.

I personally would love to see a multiplayer feature, max 4 players (or 8 players arena 4vs4). Basically co-operative play. (The latter pvp poses many balancing problems - see AW owns all comment.)

I still think content is a bit limited for replayability though.... content would need to be changed for a multiplayer game to improve said replayability. (2 playthroughs in 2 weeks including DLCs, and now I won't play this game again until the DLC comes out. Then I will wait for Awakening. If awakening is not absolutely awesome [e.g. another 2 weeks 2 playthroughs], I won't keep spending on DLCs.)

So - they have their work cut out for them without thinking about MMO.... multiplayer DLC should be an eventual target of theirs.... player run dedicated servers ofc...

I, like many others on this forum, am against a DA MMO because it would eat up an incredible amount of time to produce and the end result would be a game that by its very nature isn't worth playing for me. Having played MMO's in the past, I know they are all about wasting as much of the player's time and grinding progress down to a virtual halt and no matter the intellectual property involved, that is not fun for me.

Instead of BioWare making games I have no interest in, I would like them to continue making the types of games I enjoy. Even if an MMO did not end the franchise, as I suspect it would, it would mean a much greater time between games I care about.
