"This program requires internet access, windows, can I haz plz?"
I got so sick of seeing that message.
I disabled the Firewall (I think), I'll see if it makes a difference in the future.

I'm trying to be hopeful, but how many pages did the thread on DAO's server issues go on for before it got addressed? Given that we are only on the second page, and so few have added additional concurring comments, maybe this is a narrower issue.
There are only three things different about this install than past ones for me:
Apperance pack 2
Arrrival
...and that this is the first time I installed the game to my C:/Games/Mass Effect 2 folder, rather than the default Program Files (x86) directory. I was hoping it might clear up the texture corruption that occurs in Kasumi's loyalty mission, and it actually worked perfectly for the Kasumi DLC for the first time ever.
Usually Kasumi's outfit gets covered with a mish mash of textures from weapons packs, and possibly from Liara's LotSB outfit, but this time she retained her original correct textures. Something about the way Windows 7 handles files in the "Program Files' directories seems to make it difficult for you to modify files that are located there..
For example, it's essential to install outside of the "Program Files" directories if you run heavily modded games like Morrowind, Oblivion, etc., so I thought it might help with ME2 given the volume of texture modding DLC they've released. And, sure enough, it did help in that respect, but since this log-in issue arose at the same time, I'm wondering if the non-default directory is part of the problem.
Does anyone else have any of these issues along with three same DLC and/or install directory changes?

I have always run my installation on a separate drive to the OS, regardless of WinXP or Win7 and never had any of the problems you describe. So I don't think that's the main problem. I have Appearance Pack 2 and Arrival as well, and didn't start getting the Cerberus Login issue until some time after I'd installed and played with those DLCs. The only thing that's changed for me lately is that my forum account is showing updates automatically again - it was disabled for a while there.

Thanks for the reply, Braidweb. It sounds like the issue with Cerberus is on Bio/EA's end then. Hopefully they will address it soon.

Well, they finally sent me a tracer program to run on my end and send the results back to them to find out what is going on. Just submitted it, so it seems to me that they are centering it down to network issues with the game. I'll keep updating when they send me the results of the tests.

There is an even simpler solution. For those that are running Windows 7 or Windows Vista, open a run box, type services.msc and press enter. This will open up the Services Configuration. Scroll down until you come to a line labled Windows Firewall. Right click on it, and select properties, click the stop button. Next in the selection box next to startup type, select Disabled and click Apply.
This will totally shut off the Windows Firewall, and one will no longer have trouble connecting to Cerberus Network, and will no longer have trouble connecting to the Dragon Age Servers.
I too had this trouble, until I realized it was the Windows 7 firewall that was causing me problems. The Windows 7 or Windows Vista firewall is not needed if you are behind a hardware firewall that is in a router or broadband modem. I'm starting to wonder now, if the Windows firewall hasn't been what's been messing with and causing fequent connection drops with the Realtek Lan on my motherboard.
The Windows 7 and Windows Vista firewalls are royal pieces of junk to the point, I'm going to recommend disabling them, if you are behind a hardware firewall built in to your broadband modem or router.
I can confirm that this worked for me on my Windows 7 x64 version. I also will say that while I don't recommend using Windows Firewall, relying on only a hardware firewall is asking for a hole in your security on your computer. I recommend using a third party firewall program such as Norton or something similar. If you don't want to have to pay for it a lot of ISP's astually inclued a subscription to an internet security suite with your internet subscription.

Hello,
Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts Customer Support. I do apologize for any delay in my response. Thank you for your reply.
The UO Trace came out fine and is not the cause of the issue. It may be an issue that needs investigating. If you are still able to play the game without issue after logging in to Cerberus manually, then continue to does so until we are able to fix the issue.
Should you require further assistance about this or any Electronic Arts game in the future, please visit our web site and review our extensive Self Help Knowledge base (http://support.ea.com).
So it does seem to me that the only thing to do now is to manually log in until its resolved.

Anyway, I'm getting the usual start up and the EA notice that I could not log in automatically. When returned to the main menu, if I click connect on the Cerberus menu, it does not ask me to manually re-enter my log-in details, but simply gives me the failure to connect message again.
Anyone else having the same problem? BTW, in game I'm not getting any error messages, but I'm still sitting in the CIC. I have not tried to see if the DLC content is working or not, but the relevant missions are still in my journal. I'll try and see if everything works regardless, but I do hope they will just patch out the annoying DRM ASAP.

I never had a problem connecting with da:o or da2, i just used the da configuration to poke a hole in the window's firewall.
Spoke to soon. It worked once, but when i just tried to play me2, i got blocked again and had to manually log in

I'll be contacting support again soon, I'll post any resolutions I come across here. I've tried everything else suggested in this thread (firewall, reinstall 1.02 etc) to no avail. It's not a game breaking deal, just annoying.

I know it's not very long, but I'm still getting irked everytime I start up ME2, there's a delay and then I and get a "cannot log you into Cerberus network" message.
And when I get irked, Bill Gates pays a little visit to my Krogan supervised torture chamber.....

While it's not as crippling an issue as the DAO log-in problems a few months ago, Bio/EA really should be the ones addressing the problem, and not expecting their paying customers to constantly find workarounds for issues that they are so far refusing to address.

You might need to execute the masseffect2.exe file itself with admin privilages if your running Steam or other download version.

Running as admin on my PC, AND with UAC disabled; nevertheless, it keeps telling me it can't log in automatically. OS is Win 7 SP1, and the game is retail version. I think it's not Windows nor UAC the problem, but whatever kind of cookie EA stores in the PC. This is EA's fault, but we know them; they won't fix anything; Mass Effect 2 is a closed business by now.
Here's my problem with EA not fixing this game because its "Closed Business", because this did not happen prior to them releasing "The Arrival" DLC which started this mess to start with. If they cannot (or will not) fix this little thing to at least have the game run smoothly, then why even release DLC when clearly they are refusing to fix the problem that stemmed from that very DLC to start with?
