Every so often I have to make a new entry in my Placeables.2DA - last night I got an error stating that there were too many (or not enough) quotation marks (") in a perticular row. I fixed it with MS Access and everything was ok. Then I had to do another one and the error came up again for a different row - This time I could not fix it in Access because the columns did not match up (that previous time it was in the first column) so I tried Notepad and the error came up again in a different row - this happened a few times until I could safely open the Placeables.2DA in NW2daEditor. Then it happened again in a row I already fixed.
Is there some sort of bug that makes this happen? I had the game running so I quit out and after a few tries the 2DA opened ok again.
I am fearful that there is an infection - I have Norton but who knows what could slip through.

I don't use NW2daeditor. I use tlkeditr, so I don't know if these points matter to you. In tlkeditr, I can save a file as a NWN1 or NWN2 2da file. I guess between the two it formats differently. Is it that way in your editor?
Also, if I have the toolset open, I can not save any edits to the editor. I have to close toolset before I save. Perhaps having the game running is screwing with your columns?

Are you putting spaces in the columns? Those will be wonky i am pretty sure. Spaces are the delimiter, and if you use one it switches to quotes.
( NWN1 does 2da's with spaces, NWN2 does it with either spaces or tabs to support using excel which i think the dev's actually used to set up the game )

You are right Orion - I should use tlkeditor but the problem with that one is the row numbers are not updated during a cut and paste - but unless I am pasting 50 rows it doesnt really matter. Although there is another problem with tlkeditor - it was getting the same error - sometimes the same error sometimes a different error but every time it was a space or an extra ( " ). and the space was being read as an extra column thus the error with spaces. I never had this problem before and I edit 2das frequently without trouble until last night. well it has happened before but not in such a reoccurring manner. usually up till last night the error was a row i had edited but actually left a space but these new errors just keep cropping up. very frustrating.
thanks for the replies.
