then how do you explain the "AZURE" slang?  and do asari pop out of warts on their mother's butt? what is the purpose of breasts on an asari if not breast feeding and possibly attracting potential mates? a place to place their weapons on?

You don't think it's at all odd for animals that don't use reproductive organs to mate to have reproductive organs? Imagine if a tree had breasts and a uterus. It's just strange and not intuitive to how species evolve, that's all.

I don't get your point. Asari don't use the uterus to mate, but still need a birth canal.

Well they need it because Bioware made them give birth that way, but in nature I doubt that a species that mates psychically would have a uterus that is in no way related to the child's conception. It's hard to give you a better way for them to give birth since psychic mating isn't a real thing at this point, it just doesn't seem naturally logical.

But it's just a silly video game, I know that. I'm not trying to keep analyzing this until someone tells me "It's just a video game!"

It should be noted that breasts being used to attact mates is very limited to species on the planet earth let alone other creatures in the galaxy.

Then again Asari are all but human anyway, so whatevs.

;)

to be honest though....im not so sure asari DO use breasts that way.  seems to be more of a indication of maturity or "status symbol"....bearing a child is a rite of passage.

so you suggest a baby manifesting  from thin air is "realistic" in this case?  asari use psychic energy to WILL a offspring into existence?    then the physical being would be obsolete

I would imagine that the Asari are still going to need most of the female reproductive plumbing to make things work. They're still going to need eggs to develop into fetuses, they're still going to need a uterus for that development to happen in, and they're still going to need a birth canal to, y'know, give birth.

As I understand it, the only difference between the Asari and the other races is how they become impregnated, not how they gestate.

Asari are asexual. This means they carry both the egg and the sperm (I think that depends on how the species reproduces asexually though). But in the Mass Effect they use their nervous systems' to get a little randomization for their offspring's' genetic code from the other parnter they mate with( This last part is all just fiction of coarse). No genetic material is used from the other mate no matter if it's asari, human (male or femal), or any other species.

Here is a dumb youtube video for fun :)

Hi everyone,

I had an interesting thought that other day that I'd like to share with everyone. I was wondering if a Female Shepard and an Asari such as Liara got together and conceived a child, who would actually give birth to the baby? Would it be a human baby or an asari baby?

Thoughts,

- Hawk

I wonder how the other animals on Thessia reproduce. Are their cats monogendered? I guess they'd have to be biotic cats though. Maybe the asari evolved from a species that had two genders but when they gained the ability to meld the males started dying out and by the time they had evolved to become asari there were only females.

Is there an alternative? Say, budding?

Oops, I missed this. Yes, something like that would make more sense to me. Probably would turn some Asari fans off to the idea of mating with them, but mammal reproduction is pretty weird too tbh.

Yes, yes it is. It's Blasto, the hanar spectre. He's quite badass. ;)

It get´s even weirder if you look up things like Marsupial since all of them have two vaginas for sex and give birth through a third one that in some cases only  get´s made during a pregnancy and is later removed again.

Frankly since the Asari do not have any need for a permanent vagina (no men until the Asari invented space flight) it is actually possible that Shepard would find that Liara lacks some of the orifices he/she is used to in a human woman.

For the last time, Liara is an Asari Maiden. That means she can't have babies yet.

Yes, that's how they reproduce...by melding. They can have absolutely no physical contact with the person, if they wish, and still get pregnant.

That is somewhat incorrect: melding, as it is stated somewhere in the codex, is done via skin contact and requires a lot of touching.

What you are suggesting is HERMAPHRODITIC,  not Asexual. Oddly enough,  this would make every Shepherd in a relationship with Liara gay and straight at the same time.  :D

good point when deos her stop being a maidan - would she even rech that stage in sheps life span - or is it a matter of choice and personal maturatiy that bring on the next?

The second one actually. Paraphasing (and somewhat interperting) the codex, being a maiden means that she is still in the exploring the galaxy and have fun stage of life. The matrion stage is where asari usually settle down and usually raise a family. Matriarchs are the oldest and most respected matrions and are expected to make important decisions. Each asari can choose when and how they progress to the next stage in life. Being a maidan doesn't prevent her from having children if she should choose, it just makes it less likely that she would choose to.

Just to clarify, the uterus plays no role in sex. It's sole function is to provide an area for the offspring to develop. The vaginal canal provides a path of egress once the child has come to term. The fact that we use that canal as a conduit for exchanging genetic material doesn't change their primary function. So that Asari could absolutely have these internal structures, or something very similar to them.

In the codex, if a Maiden melds frenquently, she can trigger her Matron stage early in life.

And trust me, my Liara is doing A LOT of melding with the Shep...

Another thing, can they make hybrid kids? (half-human/half-turian/etc.)

I found this "male" asari pic;

They gather genetic information from thier mate during sexy time. Kinda like Kif Croaker.

I dont know where some ppl are thinking Liara cant have babies , but in ME1 she stated she is young but , never said she couldnt have babies. So Shepard is her smismar. :P
