Those who have never cried aren't humans.

Shepherd isn't human,  she's moved onto h+ in ME2.

I'm pretty sure he is talking about the player and not Shepard. Randomly crying to get someone's attention would be a rediculous interrupt.

If in fact it's pointing to Shepard and not the player, I doubt there'll be any sobfests. Or ragefests, for that matter. Any sign of extreme emotion, even if it is just an optional response, is bound to make fans angry. Double for an interrupt. Any sort of sadness or anger will probably be a very obviously marked response, and pretty mild--a hesitant response, a look-away, slamming a fist down on a table.

Really, I'm just hoping for more dialog like Liara's in LOTSB--asking Shepard how s/he's doing. Add a couple extra options that clearly express emotion, and maybe even something referencing history/decisions, and I will be more than happy.

Bioware can go ahead and work over us renegades, but if paragons are forced to cry that is some compensation.

As for Sheps lack of emotion with few if any displays of laughter let alone crying just depends on what you consider humorous.  The renegade interupts are pretty heavy with the gallows humor IMO which is something I can appreciate and often lol'ed at when playing.

Stabbing the merc gunship tech in the back, "You're working too hard."
Shooting the flamable tank the blood pack merc is giving a "speech' on, "You talk too much"
Kicking the uncoopertive merc out the window, "How 'bout goodbye."
Looking down the sniper scope and shooting the head off an incoming mech, "One less now."

There are several examples which were LOL worthy IMO.   But I would like to see some LOL moment that are genuinely humorous and don't rely on gallows humor.

I think some of you took that statement too literally.

YAY! ;)

I want my Shepard to bawl especially when either Garrus, Tali, or a LI dies. :(

Either way, I want Shepard to have the OPTION to show strong emotions as a reflection of the player.

Besides, it would just make him more believable as a human, as all humans have emotions. I get really tired of the cliche unfazeable brick wall military types portrayed in games and movies...it's just. not. realistic. at. all.

Why would we be forced? Are renegades forced to punch the reporter?

are we surprised? he/she is now gay...so its only stereotypical to have a ready "emotionally sensitive" shepard in ME3

I really hope Casey Hudson was referring to Shepard....
If not, I can at least see this comment as a "promise" that ME3 will be an emotional journey for the players. If not Shepard, I myself want to witness some dramatic developments that will make *me* cry. That's great, too.

But I'm very much in favor of a crying Shepard. If it's optional, of course. I wouldn't want my emotionally crippled renegade brick to cry *g*
But my canon paragon femShep would cry when Kaidan or Garrus died. Or millions of civilians because she made a mistake. Definitely.
So would my paragon manShep.

I want to see a human Shepard! This does not have result in ridiculous crying fits and 10-minute sobbing in front of the whole crew.
I trust BW to come up with believable emotional situations.

It's not just crying I want to see. I want my Shepards to show signs of stress. I want them to be scared and let it show when they are around their LIs or certain other squad mates they trust.
Even heroic Shepard's gotta be scared of the reaper invasion!
I want this showing throughout the game as optional answers on the dialogue wheel. Short comments is all I ask for.
A renegade Shepard might get more edgy, more aggressive towards strangers and enemies. Easily pissed off when the crew's confidence is waning, masking his own doubts. That sort of thing.
A paragon Shepard might need a little cheering up from time to time. Not being the unflappable one for a change.
Basically, I want to see the tension building up as the story progresses. And I want to see it take effect. On Shepard and the crew.
Not in a big dramatic fashion. No tantrums, no throwing chairs, no nervous wreck.
Just small but noticeable cracks in Shepard's perfect hero armor.

We'll never get this, but one can dream :)

I'm guessing ME3 is going to be pretty harrowing, even with "perfect" playthroughs of ME 1 & 2. I think given the subject matter crying is a pretty decent addition (as long as its optional).

So it's you the play that slug someone now, not Sheperd?

The only thing that should make Shepard cry is the sheer number of people that can't spell "Shepard" correctly. Even after all this time playing the game. Staggering. Just staggering.

Some people are simply convinced that the in-game spelling isn't the "correct" one, or so that's what I've been told.

It really stems from very similar names in LOTS of media (mostly because of symbolism with a sheep-herder tending and leading a path for the flock).

You have General ShepErd from Call of Duty, and in variety of books. You have ShepErd Book from Firefly, etc.

It becomes a habit if you were exposed to more with the variant 'e' rather than 'a'

I think its nitpicking. Same with Michael and Micheal.

nitpicking on spelling people spell his last name as what they're most familiar with seeing it's like the name Stacey you can spell it Staci, Stacy, Stacey if you know more CI staci's you will want to spell it as such unless someone says not spell it with EY.
