Any explanation for Jack's ear piece?

Also, while all asari are natural biotics, even they need to use bio-amps in order for them to generate mass-effect fields that are large and powerful enough to perform tasks.

So I assume they are BioAmps.
As for Kaidan, Jacob and Miranda, Alliance (and Miranda's dad) prefer to have amps planted under the skin for whatever reason. Jack's amp might simply be too big to be buried under the skin. Or maybe Cerberus kept it on her body's surface for easy maintainance/upgrades. You could research a BioAmp upgrade for Jack in ME2, and I doubt it involved any invasive surgery.

I'm of the opinion that it's her bio-amp as well. It is true that most amps plug into a specially installed socket at the base of the skull, but that doesn't necessarily need to be true for ALL amps. There might be different brands of amps that plug into different places on the skull, depending which spot is closest to where the eezo nodules are located in the biotic's brain.

You'd be a fool to have an amp anywhere that's accessible to an enemy, let alone one that rests on the ear. No matter where it links with the CNS, it still links with the CNS. A slot at the base of the neck, in the spine, is the perfect spot, and is within the CNS itself. If that thing on her ear is a bio-amp, it'd have to be some kind of work-around used by the scientists at Teltin, otherwise, it's just a giant target, and Jack's not dumb.

Right and she does say something along the line of having learned to do things on her own, or looking out for herself. It could be something she made or at least fitted to herself.
