Hello, I got DA:Ultimate Edition and I've been having a problem with the audio ever since I installed it, the audio seems to have static in the background and it makes the game choppy, I know this is cause by the 1.04 update because I've had the exact same problem when I installed a patch for Mass Effect 1, in ME1 I eventually fixed it with a tweak to one of the game's ini files but that wasn't even a perfect fix...

I have realtek HD Audio driver (which seems to be what most people who had this problem had) and am running on Windows XP with DirectX 9c, I have installed the latest Realtek drivers and tried reducing hardware acceliration but nothing worked, searching the forums I found that disabling the sound effects in the game (leaving only dialog and music) made the problem go away, but I can't play without sound...

This is EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM that happened with Mass Effect 1, the solution for me there was to uninstall and reinstall the game without the update but with DA the Ultimate Edition comes with the patch so I can't roll it back, any help?

How are you outputting audio? Two speakers or more tied to your PC's audio output, or is it running to some sort of receiver/surround sound system?

Also, what is the type and speed of your CPU?

It's normal two speaker output, I am putting on earphones...

Processor: Intel® Pentium® D CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 1536MB RAM

I know it's not much but it can handle games like Mass Effect 2 and Dead Space, and this problem is unique to only Mass Effect and Dragon Age...

You need either more CPU power, or a separate audio processor system that performs its own decoding (Creative Titanium).

P S  Never waste anyone's time naming different games that do not use exactly the same game engine.  Mass Effect is UT3, and DAO is an in-house engine unique to DAO.  Mass Effect actually is the more demanding of the two.  DAO is actually quite low-demand for a game less than two years old, but that's because its design was locked in four years before release, rather than the more typical 2 1/2 to 3 years.

The Pentium is really antique and obsolete now.  It had been outmoded and outperformed throughout its entire lifespan by first the Athlon K-7s, and then by the K-8s, and after those moved into the 64-bit world, Intel finally caught on.

I have been able to tun many other games just fine even ones much newer and more demanding than Dragon Age (Crysis anyone?) I doubt it's in the CPU as when I looked up the problem I saw other people with better CPU's but similar audio driver having the same problem, and even if a better CPU can solve the problem why go out and keep spending money on expensive equipment when with the right implementation you can have the same effect as doubling the power of your hardware?

I didn't bring up Mass Effect for nothing, this was total deja vu from when I tried to look up a fix for that, every tweak and it's results that were on ME1 are the same on DA, even if they do use different game engines they are still made by the same company that programs it's games in a unique way, you can sometimes tell what company programmed a game just by looking at it's configuration files and it's performance on your device...

Bottom line, you're CPU is underpowered for the game.  Also keep in mind that DAO, unlike most other games including Crysis, is very CPU-dependent, even for some things  people normally assume are handled by the graphics card.  So you may end up having better audio performance by reducing your graphic settings.

You can also try doing a clean uninstall/reinstall of your audio drivers.  There's a "how to" linked to my signature below.

Ok so I went to the computer store two days ago and buiolt myself a new one, I spent more than what I had in my account on the most expensive equipment so I won't have to hear this "your computer is outdated" excuse ever again at least for the next 7 years, while waiting for it to arrive I decided to give my old one one last chance so I wiped it's harddrive clean and reinstalled Windows and SP3, then I installed Dragon Age ad suddenly all is fixed and DA is showing even better graphics than before, yeah, thanks alot...

Then I suspect it was indeed the installation of your audio driver, as wiping and replacing Windows XP would have had the same effect as doing the clean uninstall/reinstall I suggested. It's also possible that some other XP components (DirectX, for example) needed to be flushed.
