It's about having fun and meeting random people you wouldn't normally have the chance to. Nothing wrong with that. It can get weird though when people take it too seriously.

They are people working hard to create something amazing. Just like a painter would paint and a songwriter would write, a costumer/fashionista designs - it's an art form in itself.
It's funny how people automatically think of ugly or large people slapping on some clothes and a ninja headband and calling it cosplay - it's so much more than that. You have people who are experts in creating armor and look seriously hot in their chosen costume.
There is amazing stuff out there but people are too judgmental to give it a go. Don't let the bad cosplayers give you such a tunnel vision of the whole affair.
It's amazing fun, people come up and ask you for photos with them and there's competitions - it's just like going to a fancy dress party except you make it yourself and it lasts all weekend

Usually, the idea is to do it for a convention or festival where such activity is common. That way, not only are you in good company, you would likely be complimented on your own costume or be recognized for the character you're portraying.Wicked 702 wrote...
Too lazy to put in the effort. But I think it's an awesome concept.
Couldn't have the guts to do it alone but if I was with someone that was into it I would happily participate.

I'm told that there were a ton of Homestuck cosplayers there this year, though.

I'm too lazy for for proper cosplaying myself. Halloween for me usually amounts to dressing as a character that wears clothes that match up with my normal wardrobe (Trinity, Sara Pezzini, Abby from NCIS) .I generally enjoy looking at pics of cosplayers though since most of them put so much work into their costumes. But my favorite cosplayer, and I'm surprised no one's posted him yet, is Man-Faye!
Oh my! I just barfed a bit
Those photos of Jack were the one's I mentioned in my earlier post. That may be one of the best cosplay suit-ups I've seen...pretty much spot on with amazing detail!
