That "do want" list about sums it up, though.
Mindless?
Oh you were talking about DA2.

They should most certainly return to gameplay more similar to Baldur's Gate. While I didn't mind The Witcher 2's action based gameplay as much Dragon Age II's poor emulation of it I don't want the Dragon Age franchise to turn into yet another action RPG franchise. If anything, I'd like for BioWare to get even more strategical with it. More thinking like a general and less fighting like a spartan, please.ishmaeltheforsaken wrote...

Read the books (well, I could only get the last wish and blood of elves) Triss is a main character.
But its gunna be interesting when we finally meet Yennifer.

If they want to stick to the books, fine. But do not portray a main character in two entirely different ways. It makes no sense. Either book canon or game canon. Do not mix the two.

No, TW2's combat sucks. At least, it does for the first few hours of the game.
Because it's hard and comes with a bit of a learning curve? By the same token Demon's Souls combat sucks. By the same token Ninja Gaiden's combat sucks. And don't use Penny Arcade to get your half-baked point across when they don't even agree with it. Not once does Tycho suggest that the combat is bad in his piece as much as frustrating and complex.hoorayforicecream wrote...

Mhm. Wonder if they need the author's permission to change things.

Sorry to offend your delicate sensibilities but its rather odd, oh and condescending to me for someone to suggest TW2s combat was at all mindless especially without also levying the same criticism at DA2. I've read TW2 on easy truly is mindless hack & slash, great. If you wanted combat to not be mindless then why are you playing on easy? Its not particularly boring or repetative, so far as i can tell, like DA2s waves were. Yet its mindless because she, he, it, played on easy. Whatever. I played on normal and died my fare share. Know how many times i died in DA2 on normal? Once and it was in some random ass encounter, not even to a boss.

I wouldn't go quite THAT far. They both have their pros & cons. The finishers in TW2 were astonishingly brilliant. (Cutscenes!) DAII's combat was more responsive however. TW2's combat had shuffling (Which I do not like), DAII has little to no shuffling, but not enough variety when it comes to the different enemies. Just IMO, of course.

I like the TW2 combat system myself. Is it flawed? Yup. Did I die a lot? Yup. But it sure is addictive & fun. And now you're pulling the "Just play it on hard!" card? How very....poignant.

I accept that you enjoyed the finishers, but I felt the detracted from the experience for me.
Enemy variety is encounter design, not combat mechanics. Both games are boring and repetative when it comes to the fights. But TW2 is also uninspiring in terms of the actual combat, whereas DAII's MMO-inspired math-based mechanics are insanely fun.

You seem to have missed the part where i said it wasn't particularly boring or repetitive. Which is the criticism your boy Mike Liadlaw was responding to when he said "play it on hard." Sorry if you missed that during your squeeing.

Let me get this straight...TW2's combat sucks because you personally don't like video-games holding your hand? By that logic, DMC3, Demon's Souls, and Persona 3 all suck. No offense, but I think you're kind of a derp.
