Well, Fenris is even meaner to Merrill than Anders, but at least he isn't a hypocrite. Anders condemns Merrill for using blood magic and consulting with a demon, when he is a mass murderer to be and has a demon inside him. Fenris is prejudiced against mages, but at least he is consistent about it and he is honest. I guess you get used to him. But Anders is just an ass around Merrill (normally i like him, but sometimes...)
I like it that Merrill never makes any petty insults to get back on Anders and Fenris. When Anders nearly kills that girl, she doesn't berate him. If Hawke plans to sell out Fenris, she pleads not to do this. She is the only companion that wants to give Anders a second chance in the ending. You can say what you want about her blood magic, but she is a good person, is genuinly kind and values others feelings.
I'd say they're all good people. Just different levels of damaged.
Anders is a hypocrite. But you could make that argument for Fenris, too. And you guys are all sorta mass murderers. Comes with the territory. Anders knows that he's an abomination and I'd say he almost is so mean to Merril because he's angry at himself and his attempts to do good and how badly things have turned out. Merrill, I imagine, looks to him like a proto-Anders. Kinda. But without kickass boots. (Did you see his Awakening starter boots? Creeeepy.)
Just because Merrill doesn't fight back doesn't necessarily make her good and kind. She -- shuts down on herself. Her lack of fighting could just be her being self-hating, not her being nice.
Like I said: all good people. Just different levels of how damaged they are. They all seem to be doing the best they can with what they've got, and mostly, what they got isn't much except a metric **** ton of baggage.
