Lower Brecillian Ruins Strategy?

I'm doing the main quest in the Brecillian Forest to help the Dalish, and I've reached the Lower Ruins (in the Werewolf Fortress). As some may know, this is quite a difficult area, as you fight massive numbers of skeletons. I've tried about 8 consecutive times to get through, and though I can beat the initial skeleton horde (where you meet the Ghost Boy for the first time) and make it past the spiders, I always lose when I get to the second horde (where the hallway is with a large room on the left and halls on the right).

No matter what I do or what I try, they always end up winning with only a few skeletons left. I've tried obvious tactics, such as the Left 4 Dead-esque closet strategy, where you back into a corner and multi-hit, and I've tried stunning and flanking the horde as well. Nothing seems work.

By the time I usually get to low enough health to use a Healing Poultice (I have no Lessers, so I can't waste my few high ones), the skeletons either stun me or knock me down, killing me then quickly overwhelming my allies.

Some info:

All my characters are level 9 (after getting to the "Get Circle mage help" part of the Redcliffe Castle quest, I went to the Brecillian Forest rather than Circle Tower)

Normal Difficulty

Anyone have any suggestions on tactics?

What is your party made up of? What is your character? skills for crowd control?

If you are getting stung at that bit just send one person forward to pull them further back through the tunnels, then position the rest of your team in/around a doorway. this means that not so many will be able to jump you all at once. Also, focus fire and micromanage your team. Crowd control as much as possible.

Brecillian forest is usually the last one i do, simply because i get the least out of it, if you had gone to the circle tower first you wouldve been able to recruit Wynne who is set up as a healer.

Tried the door strategy already. It could work, but the problem is the doors in this hall are much wider than normal doors. The skeletons easily flood through.

Party is made up of:

Me: Rogue, Specialized in dual-wielding
Alistair: Warrior, Tank of the group (but at this point he's substantially injured)
Leliana: Rogue, Specialized in archery
Morrigan: Mage

For crowd control, I use the Dual Sweep and Mind Blast abilities.

Backing into a corner is the right idea. You need to limit the number of skeletons who can attack. The little room down the stairs to the right is probably the best bet. Select all the party when moving so no one stays behind to fight. And concentrate your attacks as much as possible. Cold does little damage to undead so Morrigan should be using her hex, lightning and drain life and not winter's grasp. Cone of cold is good crowd control, though.

You are talking about the [censored] Death Room with all the traps, ain't you? There are two solutions, with a mage or rogue. Given the party set up, you'll have to be rogue, as I don't think Morrigan will have the necesary spells.

Hold your party out of sight -the crossing itself is good enough for the mage, wich will let him retreat and be protected by his tanks, but for the rogue you can be as far away as you want.

The mage will do the traditional tactic against massed goons: Storm of the Century. Get as close as you can before the nearest enemy can spot you (you should, of course, save beforehand to check distance) and then trow the storm at maximun range in the middle of the skeletons, then run to hide under Alistair -the closest undead probably will be able to get outside storm range before you finish the spell-

The rogue must go into stealth mode -I _think_ you need at the very least two ranks- and then simply stroll into the room and deactivate all the traps, then leave. Hold the rest or the party in the crossing and use your stave and bows to pick the nearest enemies, one by one. You willnot be able to kill all of then this way, but it will be enough to turnt he battle into simply hard instead of suicidal.

Does Morrigan have any heal spells or force field?

Part of the problem is that you went to Brecilian Forest so early.  The skeletons after the ghost boy mainly use melee attacks, and a tank with good armor+defense will take little to no damage from anything that isn't some kind of special ability or magic attack.

Also, have you been fighting the revenants on the way prior to this part?  You should be able to acquire the last piece of the Juggernaut armor set soon after this fight if you are able to get past it.  That is a good set of armor that should help keep your tank alive.

For the battle with the skeletons (at least 10 of them) in the lower ruin, when you encounter the ghost boy, my advice is: Try to run as fast as possible backward the previous corridor, don't fight with them in the large room.

If your mage has the fire attack, especially fireball, that's a great deal. Try to spam fireball as much as possible while applying the hit-and-run tactics (try not to friendly fire, it hurts!). In this case you should have 2 mages in your squad who have fireball

If you don't have fireball, just turn back to the previous room, try to use the bomb, especially fire bomb to reduce their health.
