I would like a system where, instead of lumping all the XP for a mission at the end, you get chunks of XP for completing sub-goals at various points in the mission. This would also do away with the Mission Complete screen, and all the silliness that entails.

Even if I have no problem with the Mission Complete screen, I'd like something like this. Have more optional goals.

I'd like ME to feel tactical. There should be the option to evade enemies through stealth.

Experience per kill just means it's more worthwhile to kill everybody you encounter, which feels very arcade-y.

Then that means 80% of rpgs are ´´arcadey´´

I liked the whole XP per kill.. mainly because I was rewarded via XP by going off the beaten path (Like in ME, I can recall on Viremire, theres some enemies you don't have to face, because it may be a bit hard... but it gave extra XP so I always went for it).
Also this thread needs a poll!

I'd vote Yes for this one. I hated the 'Mission Complete' screens and everything lumped together at the end. Why should someone who avoided most of the fights get exactly the same xp as someone who actually dealt with them? I mean its not like they did anything tactical either to avoid those fights, all they did was cross an invisible line that stops enemies spawning.

I'd prefer not to.
Why? It wouldn't be fair to paragons, as they avoid to kill things as much as possible.

I'm for bringing back per-kill XP. I like it better that way. Plus additional XP bonuses for completeing objectives and finishing missions.

I don't think that would matter. You would get XP for passing Paragin/Renegade checks as well. In fact in ME1, you usually got more XP for taking the Paragon/Renegade options than if you just blasted your way through (the decontamination chamber on Noveria is a good example of this).

Too be honest I do not care so as long as the gameplay is good and if need be you can reuse your rank from ME2 and ME3 replay to get to full rank.

I more care about the gameplay, story, visuals and sound which I think / hope that bioware will get every single one of those boxes ticked with HUGE X in each one

I loved how much XP levels and skills there were in ME1.
They should go back to lvl 50-60, add an achievement to it and some extra's for your next playtrough, and it will be rewarding, fun, and lengthens the game duration.

I also loved hearing the 'level up' music after i killed a boss enemy.

Hmmmm...I read all the posts, but I still want XP per kill. Too many times I only needed between 10 and 50 XP to level up, but I had to do a mission just to get that. They should go back to Mass 1 and do the whole 50-60 level thing. It worked beautifully and I loved it. They should make smaller amounts for smaller kills and larger amounts for boss fights or mini-boss fights.

Ahh well theres always the option of doing mixed, I just hope if they go XP per kill they still do swarm stuff and just don't give XP for them so its not some exploitable xp-farm.

What I have a problem with is the leveling up in the middle of a fight. I like the idea of leaving the normandy and now you're on your own, and only when you get back to safety can you research upgrades and learn new abilities and improve some of the abilities you already had, as a part of the preparations for the next mission. Not really a fan of "kill 30 people and ta-da, now you can pull!"

Maybe it would be good if you got XP for enemy killed but you could only use them after finishing the current mission, so the more people you kill, the more points you get at the end.

Still, I feel getting XP for mission instead of enemies is more reasonable. I mean, each mission is like an anecdote Zaeed could tell. It's an experience that meant something, you learned something, got something out of it, as opposed to killing yet another mook, which doesn't really mean anything. It's like practicing math by adding 2+2 over and over again. You don't really gain any experience in math by doing 2+2 a lot of times. That's why I like XP for missions better.

Go to your profile and there should be a button to create a poll somewhere.  Then just make it and link the poll in this thread.

I much preferred the ME1 leveling system to the ME2 one, and I hated the 'mission complete' screens! Do we know if they're back for ME3?

Looks like a great idea would make killing enemies worthwhileImage IPB

Honestly, ME1 not perfect in its design, but instead of tweaks we got complete overhaul of things that maybe needed a little more work in the oven.

Getting XP for killing is horrible. You can't reward murder!

I have mixed feelings on this. While I don't necessarily feel that we need XP for kills, I do think XP needs more context and variation than it did in ME2, where it was basically this meaningless, disconnected and seemingly arbitrary number just thrown at you at the end of each mission that conveniently leveled you up almost every time at the same time, no matter how the mission was approached. The whole point of XP being awarded in an RPG is to reflect the success of the player(s) involved, and reward ingenuity and success, as well as the ability to deal with enemies. In ME2 XP was completely pointless and meaningless, making it feel hollow and artificial.

Excellent noticed, I often see your comments Terror_K and in most cases, you're right, xp system needs to be deeper.
I'm not happy with the screen "Mission completed", I would like to receive experience points more extended.
