No. Because they are an insignificant 1% of the population I don't come across gays very often.

I don't have either gender hitting on me 1% of the time, nor do I hit on even 1% of the women in my neighborhood. I don't even hit on 1% of my coworkers or vice versa. I suppose you might be more promiscous but how would you know? Note I am not citing any particular percentage other than questioning your 1%.

No. If they got to know me they'd know I'm not gay and that they wouldn't bark up the wrong tree.

I'm straight. When I have been propositioned by other guys, they have only 'known' I was straight by asking me bluntly. Otherwise how would they know I wasn't bi? Flirting isn't evidence, it can and often is done just for fun.

Yes, any personality type could be gay. But with an insignificant 1% population I wouldn't expect a crew of a single frigate to have a 100% gay crew.

Who says 100% of the crew are going to be gay or bi? And frankly, people of the talent/power level that Shepard's squad represents are much more rare than 1%, so you are already beating the odds. Keep in mind most of these people signed up pretty much simply because you asked them to. No huge contract negotiations, no doubts about running about the galaxy chasing 'Reapers,'  no jealousy issues or attempts to take command, they just sign up and obey. If anything, being strongly attracted to Shepard might make it more believable rather than less.

I doubt the entire crew will be available as LI's anyway. That would be way too much extra work for BW. I still think they should do it as a romance DLC, so that you get the basic ME1/2 LI's with the main game and anyone who wants more can pay for more. We would get much better written LI's and they could put in a flag for anyone who doesn't want same gender LI's.

This is turning too "sociopolitical." I blame Moiaussi. Why would you call yourself "Me, too!":P ?

The reason I believe making a bunch of random people squadmates bisexual is political peen flexure rather than trying to reach demographics is because I really don't see how it was meant to appeal to a new demographic or sate the desires of a considerably sized current one. It seems to aim for a vocal minority rather than the majority of the current and potential fanbase. As previously stated, what they did to Ash-while I sure as hell don't like it-I understand the rationale behind it. It was a business decision.

Perhaps an example will make my perception of the situation more clear: Let's Bioware makes a game, and it makes huge corporations look like the best thing in the world, and people who criticize them look like hateful morons. You'd probably shout "BS!" when you're trying to tear your keyboard out of your monitor that you smashed out of rage, and many others would do the same. Doing the such is chosing to appease a select few, while alienating countless others. As such, I believe that the bi nonsense was inspired by political desires rather than business or the desire to create a great game.  There is no other semi-rational explanation for the decision other than politics.

Dear BioWare, since you've decided to retool the sexual orientation of certain characters in order to appease a certain demographic and focused on giving custom models long hair in order to accommodate yet another userbase section, it's time you got one retooling squad makeup then with the extra time you've been given.

See if you can go ahead and retool dialog and have VO callbacks for new romantical type stuff, then you can just go ahead and go the extra mile.

See what I want is to be able to pick my squad, period. Yes, yes: I'm aware there are story specific appearance caveats and like the rest of the fetishized polarized fanbase, I'm just going to ignore that and not care about the logistical concerns thereof.

My fave SNPCs are Garrus, Wrex and Legion, and I'd like to use them for the entirety of the game, period. Picking other characters for race/story specific concerns is fine, but the majority of the time I want to be able to pick who the hell I please to buddy up with.

AFAIC, this is just as reasonable as getting new sexual orientation options, and should be a primary concern.

I wanna go straight to Tuchanka from Earth and after dealing with whatever reaperesque situations and sidequests are there, then go straight to Geth facility #242 and pick up the official ambassador to meatbags and then galavant around.

If you can spend the time coming up with new romance scenarios, then you can come with "generic" SNPC combat dialog for every character and allow those characters to tag along, and the attendant skill trees to go with. after all the animations and dependency interactions are already there.

If Tali becomes super uber admiral vas Quariana, that's great; she can get right back to that after I'm done using her for what I want her to do, shooting bad guys and hacking terminals

If Jack is now biotic councilor to underprivileged kids in Cartagena, good for her; I'll be sure and drop her back off at her swank new office when I'm done putting my foot in Harbinger's ass.

Mordin has to fix the genophage, well that's great and everything, but it can wait til the galaxy is safe. Meantime, he needs to set fire to stuff for me.

If you're spending the extra resources for retooling romantic and off-main-story interaction and stuff like long hair, then you can just go ahead and do the fanbase a solid and allow them to use whomever the hell they want in the game they bought and paid for, with all the combat bells and whistles to boot.

I agree with this post B)

I think you're asking for more than you realize. Each new squadmate is a new ability set that needs to be balanced, a new set of dialogue and banter for any given location or situation, etc. It would also be a bit contrived from a story standpoint.

They don't need to be balanced that much. I mean, balance is gonna go out the window when they start making Firepower Packs, so all they gotta do is check for bugs and gross exploits and ship.

They need to balance ability sets between squadmates so that each squadmate has their own strengths and weaknesses without being exponentially more useful all-around than anyone else--not something ME has always succeeded at to begin with. There may also be AI issues, and to be realistic, you can only come up with so many unique ability lists. ME2 only had so many unique characters because ME2 only gave each character two skills, two weapon-types, and one unique loyalty power apiece. If ME3 is currently leaning toward fewer squadmates, it's probably trying to give each squadmate more powers and possibly more weapon slots depending on their class. Muddying the waters by trying to make every squadmate under the sun playable would just convolute the thing, and eventually people would complain that Samara and Liara (for example) play exactly the same.

So you figure that it has nothing to do with trying to sell games? The question isn't whether this appeals to a minority. Obviously it does. The question is how many it really alienates in doing so.

Why is it that opponents so often assume some sort of inexplicable 'agenda' other than either legitimate belief or a legitimate attempt to increase market share?

And how does this affect anyone?

In DA., a certain Antivan elf practically drools over you but unless you deliberately drool back there is no relationship. It isn't like you are forced into same sex relationships you don't want.

In ME there is an issue with Liara, but that is there for both genders. She seems to throw herself at everyone. She is also alien, so human norms don't strictly apply.

The
way it seems now, we have a veritable mob of vocalists that are quick
to scream bloody murder if they don't get appeased every time. It's the
old 'give them a finger and they demand the whole arm' thing all over
again.

Bioware have with their kneefall for the vocalists just
shown that in the future they will be unable to create a game without
pandering to this very vocal minority. They had made several games that
should have been proof of the subject not being beyond them, but because
this single franchise didn't include it, the vocalists kept screaming
murder and claimed perceived insults. With the resignation, Bioware have
just shown them that their behaviour towards them as a company is
appearantly acceptable, and if they should happen to create a game in
the future that doesn't include pandering of these vocalists, then they
are free to rip them a new one verbally untill Bioware give in again.

After all, that's exactly what they showed with their move in regards to the ME franchise. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie]

Sure, if they have time to pander to such a small audience and potentially rewrite everybody to be bisexual they should surely have enough time to do this.

Yes those Talimancers and Garrus fangirls are a nasty bunch I agree.

What caused this problem is that BW appeased the fanatical Garrus and Tali fans and brought those 2 back in ME2. If they had an all new crew in ME2 we would not be saddled with 'might be alive, might be dead' squad mates in ME3.

I find it funny how people can still believe this. Casey almost flat-out denied the notion.

Gay romances don't require anywhere near the resources as creating a full-blown squadmate, by the way. It's not comparable by any means as you like to believe.

Edit: Don't want to bring this off-topic.

And who's to say the gay community isn't worth "pandering" to? It's not like you have the numbers. It's a minority, to be sure. But how can you know it's not a sizeable minority?

The gay romances will probably have the same dialogue as the respective straight romance, but using gender-specific pronouns when necessary.

Anyway, I wish gay romance was not included just to spite the gay fandom. They're a bunch of hypocritical elitists.

Bioware isn't alienating anyone. If someone feels excluded by optional content, it's their own doing and their own personal issue. One I'd reccomend they work on.

... Nor are they trying to take the moral high ground. That makes no sense whatsoever.

Yes, they are. They claim to want equalty, but all they care about is what they want. It's their way or the highway, and they don't give a **** about skewering the canon if that means satisfying their homosexual cravings.

And they're elitists because they actually think they're better than other people, and are deaf to any opinion other than their own, and get quickly upset when argued against.

Yeah. It would make sense to be able to choose whatever squademates you want. I mean those that are still alive. Each and everyone of your squadmates knows what it means if the reapers take over so whatever they are doing is not nearly as important as saving all sentinet life.

I have to agree gay people won't stop until they can make everything gay firendly. Posted Image They want lots of things to change  for their benefit  t the expense of others

Making everybody bisexual is a bad idea. I think Liara, Jack, and Kaidan should be the only S/S romances

The vast majority of Bioware gamers are straight
bisexxual and homosexual gamers are  very small but highly vocal.minority

It rubs me the wrong way and makes me feel like the minority when everyone on my squad is gay and I'm the only straight one.

They just find it silly how much some people are fighting against optional content.

They're arguing against your opinion because it's in oppsition to thiers. They don't show consideration for your opinion... because they strongly disagree with it. That's the very nature of an argument or debate. How does that make them hypocritical elitists?

People hold their own opinions above all others. I suppose that makes everyone an elitist?
