Morinth is just a lot of fun to listen to. She's a sharp contrast to her boring, monotone mother.

The way I see it, is we all like every character in one way or another. When one claims to hate a character, they're really saying they love to hate that character--as opposed to outright hating them.

My own observation only. No need to take it at heart.

I can safely say that I am a testament to this statement being a load of rubbish! :P

"EDIT"

Marshalleck already said that!

About me it's only personal tastes. I just played the games several time, finding some characters moar appealing for me than others. In general I like almost all the alien characters (except Samara/Morinth) and I'm quite disinterested with the human ones (except Kasumi), but even them have a sense in the universe and storywise, so amen, I can deal with the fact that thei're important too. No other big reasons, especially I find really, really pointless the "I hate a character because of its fanbase" arguments, but this is the internet... it's full of dumb people who like to make hating groups of other people important as it is the task of their lives, so again, amen. I don't care more than a tot of those idiocies.

I understand that some people just blatantly hate characters. I'm trying to find the root of that hatred. Hatred doesn't just come out of nowhere, something in that character has to spark it. That's what I'm trying to find out. I don't really understand where "I hate this character because of his/her's fanbase".

I can understand hating a fanbase but not hating a character because of it. Maybe because I haven’t been exposed to these fourms for very long (I only started after ME2 was released). I wasn't there for all the "I want this character for this herpy derp" and "herpy derp needs to be derpy LI for ME3 ." When I first played ME2 I was completely ignorant of what other people thought of certain characters. I was convinced that some of my favorite characters would be extremely unpopular on the forums. Then I checked only to reveal the complete opposite. But with all these "I want this herpy derp for ME3" that seems to exactly Mirror pre ME2 release, I'm starting to see why some people are so pissed off at some characters.

Jacob --> character is terribly written, terribly voice-acted. He has less personality than EDI, puts on a "fake-cool" persona, irritating at times, is otherwise not likeable. Potential for improvement in ME3, but awful job with this guy.

Miranda --> Love-Hate. I basically hate her the person, but respect a lot of who she is as well. A bit boring though, not much development outside of Cerberus loyalty, genetic engineering, and some family. If Cerberus truly is out of the picture in ME3 she might become tolerable, without the inherent "cheerleading" that made her annoying and accounted for about 90% of her character.

Jack --> love her of course, still says things occaisionally that will annoy me a bit so "maturation" in ME3 is not completely unwelcome (but don't change her too much!)

Liara --> Not a fan of Asari, I always get the feeling that we're supposed to love her/them but I just don't. Not as much as BW seems to want us to. She just feels a bit dull, was always a bit of a baby in my eyes, overrated.

Samara --> Her code is stupid as hell. She's pretty much a more hypocrite as a result of her blind loyalty to it, not an better than her daughter in truth.

Thane --> OK with him, but I feel like they tried really hard to make a cool assassin character here, and much of it is "forced." Some of his dialogue reflects that and is kinda phony. For what he is, not *particularly* interesting himself.

.... the rest I feel are pretty good characters, overall.

I don't hate any characters, but I find some so annoying I don't use them, ever. But I gladly allow other people's love for them, and I'm happy there are so many characters to choose from I can let some sitting in their office and polish their nails.

Like Miranda, Jacob, and Samara. Miranda and Jacob are both cliches. Samara has so godawful outfit I get my eyes sore if I try to look at her. Jacob dies in my every playthrough to make sure I don't have to see him in ME3 if I don't feel like it. I don't use Tali, but I don't dislike her that much, I just don't need her.

I don't have much love for Ashley either, so she dies in Virmire every time. Someone has to!

I don't really like to be racist, but I am often very irritated of how the Asari are portrayed as massive bisexual ****s (excuse my language) that horny teenagers can ****** to. As a result it is hard to take an Asari character seriously. Still, I like Liara.

I agree with you that Samara blindly follows her code that is completely hypocritical and morally wrong. That aside, I like Samara.

There's not much to understand. It's really simple: you can like or not like something, but a lot of people must find a justification for their hate, so they can try to show that their opinion is the most sensed one and crap like that. Then comes the "I hate the characters because it's made to appeal for the most creepy fanboys" "I hate this character because I think with my head, instead of being an Alliance's butt-licker" (said like the Alliance and that character were both real... sigh) and so on. A lot of people hate things and most of everything else they hate that their opinion is not the most shared one, and so then comes the flame wars, the "You're an idiot because it's like I said, not as you think!" and all the other bulls**t.

Well, at least we see through the hate and focus on things that are good.

Yup, sometimes people here made me really angry (ask to those "geniuses" of ReconTeam or Elite_Midget) but you know what I use yo do? I simply switch off the computer, go out for a walk and the day after I start again, ignoring what happened before almost as it was never happened. And there's not enough hate even on the whole internet to force to stop me to play my videogames in the way I like it.

Enjoy your time on the SN, and don't get mad for things like these. Haters gonna hate.

I don't like Kal Reegar, because I find it utterly stupid for a quarian to sound like a stereotype american GI, especially since all others go towards a completely different direction.

Party members specifically.

In ME1 i didn't like talking to Kaiden, Ashley or Liara, their conversations just didn't intrest me and i found myself wishing that they would be quiet so i could move on.
As for Garrus i didn't care one way or the other he just was.

In ME2 i found Grunt, Thane and Jacob dull to the point that i forgot they were there and i didn't have Legion with me long enough to actually care, again it just was.
I also didn't like the way Tali developed, she became this stereotypical Quarian pining for a world she's never seen and moaning at my Shepard for still having a "home". I didn't dislike her it just got annoying.

Without the party banter of ME1 and the characters expressing themselves less often the ME2 characters felt less real.

I don't know, Quarians seem to have pretty varied personalities. He also seems like a cool bro character (similar to Garrus). I think he would work very well as a full time squadie in ME3. I also bet, that FemShep players would jump at the oppurtunity to Romance a male Quarian if he was an LI.

Ashley is the one who needed to calm down, she's the one who shot.  He wasn't really going to shoot, I had it all under control.  Maybe she thought he was going to shoot, but my opinion is the one that matters. Besides, he looks more like a totoise than a lizard.

Should've given Wrex a donut. I think that would have helped him calm down. Donuts help everybody calm down! This is a life lesson.

Jack/Thane: I found both characters poorly written. A bunch of clichés thrown together and given legs. Dull and predictable, same goes for their dialog. Also hate when Bioware pulls the "This character has a bad past. Please feel sorry them!" as it screams of lazynes. To top it off Thane was even completely irrelevant.

Jacob:

character is terribly written, terribly voice-acted. He has less
personality than EDI, puts on a "fake-cool" persona, irritating at
times, is otherwise not likeable.

Grunt: being the "Krogan squadmember" does not cut it when I already had a "Krogan squadmember" before.

While I don't hate anyone there are a few things about some characters that irks me at times.

Jack- I have to romance her to get any decent character growth out of her. If I don't romance her, all I get is an insult. Sure its the same thing as calibrations, but at least Garrus is trying to be polite to me.

Jacob- He just seems to have no point. He is boring, he is well adjusted, and even his loyalty missions is something that doesn't effect him in any way. He doesn't grow, he doesn't have a crisis until you hit the loyalty missions, and hell he is a soldier that can't use an assault rifle! Not to mention the way femshep talks to him...

Legion- Unless you want your crew to die, or for some of your team to be unloyal, you can't get to know the dude. Hell I still haven't triggered his dyson sphere conversation yet.

Morinth- She acts like Samara, and you hardly get any conversation out of her. Plus she has the worst fighting ability in the entire game.

Garrus- Calibrations

Thane- They didn't properly introduce his memory quirks in time. I had NO ****ing idea what was happening when he went all bug eyed, and worse shep never gets to ask about it until a later conversation!

I like all the squadmates, some more than others.

Thane, Jacob, Kaidan, Legion, Jack, Zaeed are among my least-liked list.
Jacob and Kaidan being just boring characters.

Is.. is that sarcasm? It's hard to tell with what Mordin mentions as the wide range of a certain characteristic within the human population.

Yeah, Jacks ninjamance does bug me.

They're people out their that like him.......... Somewhere

Legion- Unless you want your crew to die, or for some of your team to be unloyal, you can't get to know the dude. Hell I still haven't triggered his dyson sphere conversation yet.

I managed to get all of the conversations out of him by doing DLC post SM.

Morinth- She acts like Samara, and you hardly get any conversation out of her. Plus she has the worst fighting ability in the entire game.

Morinth really isn't even ment to be a party member. It just seems like the devs threw her together in the intrest of time. Aside from that, I think she's a cool spunky character.

Garrus- Calibrations

In the middle of them....

Thane- They didn't properly introduce his memory quirks in time. I had NO ****ing idea what was happening when he went all bug eyed, and worse shep never gets to ask about it until a later conversation!

Yeah first playthrough had me confused about that to.

I didnt care for Grunt really, he's funny but he's such a "gaah i want to kill!" stereotype of krogan, Wrex was more intresting.

Samara really didn't get me either, I almost never use her, why did we need another pure biotic user when we got Jack? Felt like an extra character, tough i did find justicar background kinda intresting.

Kasumi - do i even need to comment?

Grunt is pretty much a child while Wrex lives for long time.

So what did you except?

Asari are powerful Biotics and she's even a Justicar.

Also in combat she's far more useful then Jack.

Yes. I really don't see how can anyone dislike her.
