So... If I decide to cheat on Liara (not sure if I will yet) can I explain why I did in the LotSB? will she hate me? or will she want to be friends?

You can respark it with her but you need to land all the Paragon interrupts I think. Then when you invite her to your cabin she will ask you wether to be friends or stay together.

I banged Jack in the cargo hold, and managed to sweet talk my way back into Liara's pants/mind.

If you could really bring yourself to cheat on that precious blue jewel, you don't deserve her anyway!
*glove slap*
Come, sir! I challenge you to a duel! Will you accept...or are you a coward?

In Mass Effect 1 was just talking to her then she was like, "herp derp sex time." I wanted to be friends with her, not a romance.

Edit:

But I don't want sexy time with her, I want to be friends... just friends.

I made my Shepard break up with Tali and get back "together" with Liara. Other than the one comment she says on the planet she doesn't really care...I'm worried about Tali though, she seems to be under the impression that I never told her to fob off...

Just play it as a swinging Renegade.
Liara in ME1. Jack in the cargo hold. Finish SM without romance to invite Kelly up for sexy times. LotSB, and sweet talk Liara to get her back. During the various Firewalker quests, chat up Miranda until you can invite her up to your cabin for snuggle session. Dump her genetically perfect arse, and hook up with Tali over a few more side quests. Save game, and what to see what the ramifications are for the epic-level cheating in ME3.

Whilst I've got a similar playthrough (although no 2nd invite for Kelly or proper sexy time with Miranda), I've got to admit I am going to be intrigued as to what happens in that playthrough of yours

It'll be interesting to see if we can cheat on both the ME and ME2 LIs with an ME3 LI :wizard:

As interesting as thaht may be, I want to her Mordin's advice on the whole sordid deal.

"Shepard. Must talk. Biometric scans indicate 872 known sexually transmitted diseases, and 13 unknown ones present in your bloodstream. We did warn you not to ingest." :alien:B)

The problem with ME2 is that there are 2 options pretending to be 3.

1. Yes, I want you. (romance continues)
2. I like you, but not like that (romance continues)
3. I absolutely don't like you, please get out of my face, I am such a douche aren't I (Romance and all further dialog ends.)

^^ this. Tali's romances options are awefull:
1. Yes I want you
2. no that's too dangerous (but does this imply I still want you?)
3. Euw, that's gross

Ended up choosing 2, but Tali is just a good friend, nothing more. Why can't I say that? Or even better, Liara* might be in to threesomes so why can't I ask Tali?

* when forced to choose between Liara and Ash, you can answer 'can't I have you both'. This ends the Ask relationship, but Liara will think you chose her. To me this implies have a threesome should be an option, cause otherwise it's just weird.

You can say that. If you say "no thank you" Shepard says "That's really sweet but I don't feel the same way."

"It's too dangerous", to any normal person, is a gentle rejection, not a "yes". You're not completely shooting her down, but you give a valid reason not to persue it any further.  Given that she was clearly nervous, self conscious and didn't think Shepard could see byond her mask I'd rather let her down easy (she being a close friend) then to straight up turn her down flat.  I personally find the lower option mean even if the words themselves are honest and not inherently mean in and of themselves. I feel so bad everytime I do a playthrough and don't romance Tali. And then her Shadow Broker files make me fill sorry for her. Nerve stim: Deluxe Edition? *sigh* Poor thing.

Well, I know that the dialogue wheel isn't always as clear as it probably should be but I didn't really have too much trouble not romancing Tali. "It's too dangerous" can sort of imply that your feelings on romancing Tali isn't the why you aren't going through with it. I actually thought the lower option was as perfect of a gentle let down.

Why does everyone keep calling it cheating?

What is wrong with people? No matter who your LI in ME was they all DUMP YOUR ASS in ME2. It's not cheating if you get a new LI people!

Does having sexy time with Jack in the cargo hold effectively kill an ME1 romance?

This. Ash treated me like freakin dirt on Horizon, and finished me off by calling me a traitor to the race I died trying to protect. Why did I save her on Virmire again? Oh yeah, was thinking with the wrong head.

I thought this too. Liara can hardly complain if Shep goes off with Thane after getting shunned by Liara at Illium. But if Shep gets back together with Liara in LotSB then carries on with the ME2 LI it counts as cheating (imo).

Ashley/Kaiden dump you. F those Bs.

Liara on the otherhand is more ambiguous. I didn't know what was going on. She kisses you and then straight to business. I wasn't sure if it was just laziness on Biowares part to make Liara romance neutral or what. Even Shepard has no questions. He acts he doesn't care. What is 2 years to a 108 year old with 900 or so years to go.  Until LotSB I had no clue whatsoever where their relationship stood.

In most cases I consider "cheating" on ME1 LIs as having the same relation to cheating how loyalty mission - to loyalty. BioWare decided to call it so and it's shorter than "changing LI between ME1 and 2", so why not?
On the other hand, let's look on this from Shepard's perspective. You had serious feelings, then bam! Normandy explodes, you waking up and soon after you meet beloved one who get at you. Is this normal to suddenly forget about everything and instantly go for another person, won't it say Shepard's feelings weren't so deep in first place that he isn't even feel embarassed, maybe hurt? Or it's just because I'm from rather traditionalist society?

Anyway, it's simple when it comes to Liara. If during LotSB you say you lovew her and then go for another LI/not break up with existing LI, it's a cheating. If you explain her you've moved on, Liara is rather understanding and friendly.
