I've had several things that I wonder about, can't explain, or that just plain bother me.  I thought I'd post them together since none of them are big.  I'd welcome feedback (maybe I'm being dumb on them?) or your own little points.

- Anora's elf maid that comes to Eamon's estate in Denerim says Anora sent her to you b/c her guards couldn't besiege Howe's estate... but it doesn't explain why they couldn't sneak in and rescue her.  It makes sense from Anora's perspective that she'd prefer you to her guards, since it'd give her plausible deniability if you fail, but it doesn't explain why you don't smell a rat or why you can't tell her to get Anora's guards to do it.

- Niall in the mage origin tells you they execute escapees... and DAA, Anders says from experience they don't.  They're both referring to the Ferelden Circle, so it seems like a retcon since there seems to be little room for Niall to have misunderstood the policy so drastically.

- There was a thread awhile back that pointed out that Wynne says the Wardens only ever have 1 mage at a time.  I posted it might just be that the Wardens only ever happened to have one at a time, and she mistook it for a policy.  But on replaying the mage origin, there's a mage in the Circle's guest quarters who can tell you back in his day, the Wardens were recruiting only one mage since they only ever have one (a recruitment he declined).  It really does seem the original intention was to have the Wardens only have one mage... I wonder why they axed that?  and how to explain Wynne and this mage's story?

- In the Dalish origin, you encounter that elven-idol statue... and later, you can see it again in Denerim's blood-mage den, and again in Haven's Ruined Temple, and again in the Architect's Room in the Silverite Mines.  There, however, there's a new statue too - one that looks almost exactly the same, except it has four arms and some other frills.  This new statue makes me wonder whether it's just asset recycling or if there's a lore point they're hinting at.

1. Yeah, some events in DA:O you can't avoid no matter what your suspicions. Certain things are railroaded. And Anora can even snigger at you if she betrays you at the Landsmeet and you bring up her 'capture'.

2. Niall says that? I don't remember that, but I'll take your word for it. My only answer would be that they execute *some* escapees. In DA2 Anders' journal says that the First Enchanter deemed Anders' escape attempts and Anders himself harmless, and that's how he avoided having the templars take action against him. Mages are probably afraid to make the attempt because death is known to be a possible punishment.

3. I don't remember that comment either XD Seems like an odd policy, but maybe it was an attempt to avoid the ire of the Circle. The Wardens becoming a haven for apostates wouldn't be something the Chantry would take lightly, and the Grey Wardens are supposed to be Andrastian as an organisation (ever since Emperor Drakon and Orlais aided them in a Blight, IIRC. It's in the timeline).

4. We have no word on those officially, I think, but I took them to be Tevinter statues. It's possible they are artistic renditions of the demonic Forbidden Ones, from whom a DA2 Codex claims mages learned blood magic from. But we don't know. There's a lot of repeat appearances of the Dalish statue of Fen'Harel, the Dread Wolf, as well. :)

1. I've had her do that. It's really annoying. I had the last laugh in that playthrough.

2. Yeah, Niall says so if you ask him why he doesn't just leave (after he says he's an isolationist). I missed that codex point... maybe the penalty's on the books and they just never use it in the Ferelden Circle, which Anders has banked on. It still seems like after the 5th or 6th escape attempt...

3. It's the guy who's cleaning up the room you bring Duncan to. The policy would make political sense, but I don't know what happened to it in DAA.

4. Yeah, there's a lot of uncertainty on some of the most interesting points of lore. >_< I guess it keeps you coming back. I missed those dread wolf statues?

You know what addles my brain? No one has sur names. Pisses me off, don't know why. Shale, Oghren, Leliana, Morrigan, Sten and Wynne don't have them. Then in DAA everyone except Natty is lacking one. And Anders isn't even Anders's real name. DAMN YOU BIOWARE Y U DO DIS?

I'd say what happens in DAA is that Ferelden has so few Grey Wardens they're willing to take on anyone.

Plus if you're the Warden Commander and playing it by the book, you *do* have the option to turn both Anders and Velanna away. :) The Templars definitely don't like you taking Anders on, even after DAA if DA2 according to his personal story.

Check out this bit of Corker's Blog. :) The statue turns up in some surprising places...

Shale probably forgot hers, only noble houses seem to have surnames (which excuses Sigrun as well), Sten is just a title, so a surname wouldn't be needed, and Morrigan's last name would be Flemeth's, who may have forgotten it after centuries of not caring about it.

Speaking of Flemeth, I was just playing Origins, and I noticed something strange. Anyone else notice that she has a headless Andraste statue near her hut?

Shale's last name would presumably be Cadash, after her house back when she was a fleshy meat-bag. Oghren presumably lacks one, in the sense that he doesn't have one anymore. From what I understand, his house was annexed into Branka's which was then lost in the deep roads.

Oghren's house was Kondrat, according to the wiki.

Maybe they don't have them. Long time ago, David Gaider said nobles have last names. Everyone else goes by their profession or where they live. http://forums.biowar...forum=135&sp=30

Castless dwarves don't have houses. The castless dwarf PC even tells Duncan that "I have no house", so what exactly is "Brosca"?

Why does Zevran have a last name then?

Personal pet theory is that it's his Crow cell's name (so Taliesen would also be an Arainai) but there's no evidence for that.

If it's not an obvious-enough implication of Corker's clever suggestion, might Brosca be a cell name that the casteless dwarf gives up upon leaving the Carta?
