Will there be lots of slow and tedious grinding in Dragon Age: Origins just to get my character's experience level and etc. up to an pleasing experience level amount in game?

No. There are very limited respawns, so you'd have to "grind" your way through the campaign or sidequests. Not sure if that counts as grinding, as indicated by my use of quotation marks.

Not sure what you mean: the game is based on story and not grinding. I can't think of a situation where you'd need to grind levels. If you're not high enough level to do an area, there are plenty of other areas/quests/storylines to follow until you can meet the challenge.

Well since the game is heavily scripted and liner, and we know there is a fixed amount of EXP I would venture to guess no. though I do hear that some of the side quests are a bit grindy. But its still not just going out killing reseting and killing more.

Did DA:O take out random encounters? I actually don't remember ever reading anything about that.

No, but like BG & BG2 you won't be gaining a significant enough amount of experience from these encounters to make grinding for levels very viable.

We haven't played it yet and, more importantly, we don't know what you find boring.

I'd guess doing the quests.

Play the game, and follow the story.

If all you're worried about is gaining levels, I'm not sure this is the right game for you. But if you enjoy story and good combat, then I think you'll find you're going to forget about when you ding the next level. I didn't find the game got boring at all, and rarely even thought about getting the next level.

"Grind" is more a state of mind than a specific game mechanic. If you are having fun, then there is no grinding. So, the moral is to enjoy the game and then, no matter what, you will never feel like you are forced to do something to progress.

I hear the game may be hard if you ignore a lot of the side quests. So in a sense doing all the side quests could be considered grinding.

Go to the spoilers section of the forums someone has already started posting info from the prima strategy guide for just about everything including quests, comanions and the like but be warned it is heavy heavy with spoilers.

No mindless grinding to kill 10 rats for 5 silver and 200 XP.

This is DA:O, we get story!

As a few have said, we aren't sure what you find boring ...

But for myself, I like to occasionally take a break from the main questline to do side quests and explore.  I did that in Oblivion.

In an MMO the fun meter is the experience bar, watching it fill up. So when you are close you are really having fun... This game is more story driven, both in the main quest and the side quests and the point isn't really to grind for levels but rather play the game.

It's a combat centered game, and I can see that becoming tiresome if you prefer story/conversations. That's what easy mode is for though. No shame in using it.
