This was a great mod in DAO - it caused all of your companions to join the party with no talent or skill or attribute points assigned, so you could do all of them yourself and spec out everyone the way you wanted right from the start.

Is there something similar for DA2, or do I just have to wait to respec everyone?  Since I'm already using a mod to replace all the missing talent trees for the companions (so now Aveline can learn 2-H weapons, for example), it would be nice to start right from the beginning with the talents I want, rather than having to wait for a respec.

If someone has already produced this mod, please point the way.

I've been waiting for this too. I don't think it's a high priority though since you have access to respec potions if you have the Black Emporium (works on all party members stats & abilities).

Someone requested it a while back and got b*tched at for being either lazy or cheap.

But such a mod would be very convenient. I'm not sure what it would entail, however.

kinda seems redundant when there is an ingame respec potion....is there any reason you cant use a makers sigh?

I've never liked a respec option, because I don't think respeccing really makes sense within the setting. That's why I preferred No Follower Auto Level to the Respec mod in DAO.

But more importantly, I think, is that being able to set points right from the beginning means not being saddled with the designers' image of those characters when they first join your party.

I think Respec and No Follower Auto Level accomplish different things, and BioWare decided to build one of those things in DA2. I'd have preferred the other one.

but surely you are only 'saddled' for the few seconds it takes to click on the potion icon...

not trying to have a go but if you had to use a console command or mod to respec i could understand you wanting an easier way....but chugging a pot is very easy

You have to get the pot, first.  It's in Act I.

It's not a huge deal.  The respec potion offers effectively the same result (though at a cost), and the only real downside is that I have to wait for it.  I was just asking whether someone had produced a No Follower Auto Level mod, given that that would be my preference.

The respec potions in the BE are in all acts and in unlimited quantity. They aren't even expensive.

One thing you should consider is that if you mod them to not have any skills before you recruit them, they will flail miserably in the missions leading up to their recruitment where they need to fight and you don't get control of them. Merrill, Isabela, and Fenris I know for sure would have a difficult time in their follow me missions.

And I don't think anyone will make this mod unless they do it for themselves because there is the Maker's Sigh available and it might just be perceived as a waste of time (it is in my mind for that very reason).

I suggest doing the 7g trick in the prologue and just buying 5 of them as soon as you get in to Kirkwall, that way the only ones that get affected by the issue you're having are Aveline and your sibling as you'll be able to respec everyone else before any combat if you so choose.

I'm unfamiliar with the 7g trick. I'll have to look that up.

If you talk to Athenriel accept her quest and then take the 2g bribe from the merchant you can then do the Red Hand quest and get the 5g off Friedrick's corpse.

That's not really a trick, that's an intended feature since it has ramifications later.

Also might not always be up Sylvius's alley for roleplaying reasons.

I've never done that, because my characters wouldn't do that, One character did it the other way around... my mage (current character). Did Meeran's quest, but let Meeran go, then turned around and did Athenril's.

This ^^

We are not trying to belittle the OP, it just seems he is trying to make things more complicated for himself.

We'll see

My first time through the area, it bothered me that I couldn't do both quests.  I figured the other quest targets must have fled the area after hearing the first fight.

I'm tempted to place a character near them to see if they just vanish.

There were reasons not to use the console in DAO. I haven't yet discovered whether those reasons exist in DA2, as well.

If you just want a respec potion and want to hold on to your gold, just go into console mode and give yourself one. There is this Vaddi mod that makes the process of doing so easier.

What reasons were those? The only side-effect of the console in DAII I know of is that if you play with it enables, your online profile won't update. But it's a simple matter of saving with the console disabled any time you want to upload to your profile

I didn't realise you could undo that.  I thought opening the console prevented that character's profile from ever updating, which is why I never used the console in DAO at any point.

Well then, problem solved.

Thanks.

Nope, its only when you are running the games in dev mode that profiles will not update. Once you log in to either DA:O or DA2 normally, profiles update normally.

Well, "ramifications" is a bit too big word to use for that particular thing. What you really have is simply an option to get some additional XP by smacking the "old friends" who have a chip on their shoulder. And it's good to mention it as there may be those who didn't know that there are additional "options" with those quests :)

Regarding reasons not to use the console, the only game-breaking problems I'm aware of (outside of screwing with plot flags) is that changing your class can make your save file vulnerable to exception crashes in certain situations, on top of causing a host of other issues. Similarly, using killallhostiles has the potential to cause problems with scripted fights, e.g. Meredith.

Adding items or gold, though, is generally harmless.
