Hello,
So, I've had this problem since I got the game, I've uninstalled & reinstalled, checked drivers & updated to beta video drivers that Nvidia lists work for DA2, turned off auto save, turned off music, switched to directx 9, switched to windowed mode, etc. Every work around that I can find anything about from searching google, but nothing seems to fix it. My computer plays other games just fine, so it isn't the computer.
I'm playing the steam version of the game. game version 1.02
CPU: Intel i7-2600K @ 3.4Ghz Quad Core
RAM: 8Gb
Vid: Nvida GeForce GTX 560Ti, Vram 1Gb
Driver: 270.60
Sound: SB Audigy
Windows 7 Home, DirectX 11
The problem is that, seemingly at random, when I try to save the game it gets "stuck" saving. The symbol just sits there, and while this is occuring if I change zones the game freezes. The symbol never goes away (at least I've sat here and waited over 10 minutes and it didn't go away).
Sometimes I can play for only like two minutes before it gets stuck, sometimes it can take about 30 minutes, though I don't think it has ever been longer than that. I have gotten into the habit of quick saving after every fight, and like every 30seconds or so just because it is very annoying to have to redo things. But at the same time, the game is basically unplayable....unless you think having to force quit and restart an average of every 5-10 minutes is perfectly fine.
Online I've seen many people complaining about this problem, but on this forum I don't see anything (though purhaps I'm just calling it something different). But a simple google search of "Dragon Age 2 save bug" provides many hits and possible reasons/solutions though none of the solutions have helped in my case.
I see that BW is putting out patch 1.03 soon, but in the list of fixes, there isn't anything like this, and in the list of known PC issues, again thiere is nothing. Is this something that is supposed to be fixed?

I've heard that there was a bug where the game only recognized one core which would result in the fact that the game will get stuck when it tries to save. To check if that's your case open the task manager, select the process tab, right click on the DragonAge2.exe process and select the option select processor affinity (don't know if that's the correct name for it since I have the Swedish version of Win7, however it should be something like that). Note that you might have to press "show process for all users" first due some admin restriction. However that should result in a pop-up in which it tells you how many cores the game is allowed to use.

Forgot to include that in my OP.
But I checked that already, it's using all cores. Also I found an application that forces programs to use different cores, tried it with forcing dragon age 2 to run on 1 core, 2 cores, and all 4 cores, but the problem stayed the same.

I have had the same problem since early on. It does eventually stop saving. In my case about once every half hour I have to wait four or five minutes for the save to stop. If I transition areas it freezes. Does not relate to not using multiple cores. Seems to only happend during the automatic area transition saves not during any other save cycle.

OK don't know if developers read this, but I have doen some experimenting. By intentionally crashing the game by transitioning out of an area as soom as a "save loop" starts, I have learned the game actualy does a complete save. It, however, thinks it is still saving even though a fully functional save has been completed.

I think it's a patch 1.02 bug that 1.03 failed to fix.
I reinstalled the game and played without patching to any update and the game has none of that saving loop issues. I know you can't play Legacy DLC without 1.03 but I guess for now it's better you can't play the Legacy DLC than not being able to play the whole game at all.
