So....What if you lost Garrus and Tali in ME2? Does not mean your just going to have 2 less companions in ME3? I know the number of companions will be less but what if this were to happen and you will only have Liara, Kaidan/Ashley, and this James Vega? (I'm sure there will be more companions but they have said it won't be 10-12 like ME2)

I would assume you would have less squad mates. That should be the "reward" for allowing squad mates die in ME2. I think ME3 should really hammer down consequenses of all players actions, not just make them moot by replacing dead squad mates with fresh ones.

That wouldn't make any sense - Shepard (saviour of the galaxy and all that) should be able to get the Alliance/Council to assign e.g. a generic engineer to the Normandy if he's short on tech experts. They won't be as good as the hero squadmates but there'll be someone to open doors, lift charging krogan, etc

You could just suck it up and live with the loss, or redo the SM and don't let them die.

I've never understood why everyone thinks the player should get some sort of compensation for dead teammates. It completely negates the consequences of losing a character.

It would be even worse if Kaidan was dead too, would be very lacking in tech powers.

Two less squadmates. You're supposed to do your best for saving everyone in ME2: the Suicide Mission is not meant to be your "Get rid of who you don't like" token. Off course you'll have someone else taking care of the engines and the ship's weapons, but that's all. Or at least it should be so, imoh. Off course not only for Team Dextro but in general for any returning squadmate, full-time or part-time that is.

You're screwed. Garrus & Tali are the TWO characters that will (must) be in all 3 MEs. Tali because of the Geth, and Garrus, I'm not so sure except that he is a Turian, C-Sec drop out & Spectre flunkie. The LI thing is a separate issue. When Shepard first takes command of the SR1 and is giving his speech, the 3 characters by the drive core are Garrus, Ashley & Wrex. Tali starts the whole story by having the audio of Saren that makes Shepard a Spectre.
Therefore;
SAVE that import and see what happens in ME3, but do another and save both of them. I personally have no idea WHAT is going to happen in ME3,  so I have numerous import saves including all 12 (NOT my preferred squad) but mainly 8 or 9, some NOT loyal survive, certain ones ALWAYS survive (Grunt, Tali, Legion & Mordin), just to see what BW has to offer. I expect some out comes to be better than others and some will end in failure to stop the Reapers. Either no LI or loyal in ME2; except, cheated on Kaidan with Garrus, cheated on Kaidan with Thane, cheated on Kaidan with Thane then killed him off!  We'll see. And yeah too much spare time.

Frankly I just want a new engineer. Shouldn't be hard to get a generic NPC like Ken or Gabby to take care of the engines.
As long as they don't have any plot necessary items related to their quests (or things that I need to make someone survive) I really don't care. I just want them gone from my ME3 game.

I'd like the option to tell them to kick rocks if they're alive in my ME3 game as well.

Imagine for a second you start a new game in ME3. not importing from ME2. Are Tali and Garrus squadmates? If yes then two less squadies for importers who killed them off.

If no... then shouldn't there be replacement squadmates? I think so.

For new games Bioware will release a comic-version similar to what the PS3 got. But I personally think that the romances are characters that Bioware will absolutely refuse to kill off as they are the both extremely popular and hold some of the most iconic characters within their ranks: Jacob, Miranda, Garrus, Tali, Jack, and Thane

I agree as well, the whole overlying theme in the series has been "your actions have consequences", so if you screwed the pooch on the suicide mission- and really, you almost have to intentionally in most situations- you should lose out on squaddies. If you can just get people wasted and replace them with no hassle, what's the point?

Shouldn't be too much of a let down, they're just footsoldiers it's not like they leading their people like Wrex or incredibly well conencted Spectre's like Ashley and Kaidan or the Shadow borker like Liara. I'd think a ME2 squaddie would be in their place, like Grunt or SamaraPosted Image

I killed off Garrus and Tali in my last playthrough just for a little variety in ME3, since I have like 13 playthroughs where everyone survived. I don't expect replacements and I'm really hoping characters react to their deaths. I want Garrus' dad and sister to be pissed when I get to Palaven. I want Kal Reegar to tell me I failed as Tali's Captain.

Reegar seems to be too pragmatic for whines. I'd expect more that Shala'Raan will blame you for Tali's death. Or maybe they'll do that both. Meh, not gonna happen in my game.

You get zombie Garrus and Tali. They are immortal and will stay with Shepard for the rest of eternity.

Good result? Then you're SOL. Keeping your squad alive is actually incredibly easy, especially with a sticky in this very forum with directions on exactly how to do it.

Bad result? Bioware makes a cop out and replaces them with standins. That would suck.

I wouldn't want to lose Garrus and Tali as squadmates. It would be upsetting. They've been helping Shepard since the beginning. That being said, I also don't want a 1000 squaddies. I feel like 6 is a nice number, just like the first game. If Tali and Garrus died...then keep them dead and you'll just run the game with 4 squadmates.

"Good, I got [squadmate(s) I don't like] killed.  He/she/they sucked anyway.  Now, where's my replacements?"
"You don't get any."
"What?!  But...but...you're interfering with my roleplaying!"
"Dealing with the consequences of your actions is part of roleplaying."

Pretty much.

Whiners gonna whine. You wanna kill someone you don't like? Fine, but stop pretending that it shouldn't have consequences because that character, in your opinion, is the worst and it should have been deleted like he/she never existed. The only squadmate who actually have a replacement in case of death is Wrex, but only because he was turned into NpC. I didn't see replacements for the human killed on Virmire...
