I look at it like IF you save the person at the AA Tower, then Kirrahe happens to have ended up with them.

Hmm, not sure but last PT i did Kirrahe survived when i saved Kaiden. I did however destroy all objectives before continueing. This time i want to save Ashley since (if i recall correctly) the bomb would go off regardless.

Cpt Kirrahe wille DIE if you do not destroy the geth fliers; makes no difference @ the control panel, Renegade make Shepard's job easy or Paragon "They have enough..." You can save the person on the AA tower or go back and save the person at the bomb, Capt K will be in the cargo bay.

I sent Ashley with the Salarians and then chose to save her since I liked her backstory better, therefore Kaidan died at the bomb site. Kirrahe also died on Virmire, since I didn't take out the flyers.

All you have to do is the satellite up-link, the flyers, and the comm tower. Just doing those three things is what will save Kirrahe. That and disabling the alarms, so they don't get sent onto Kirrahe. I believe it's an assignment...But yeah. Don't worry about going to the AA tower, you don't have to go there to keep kirrahe alive.

this is very helpful as i did not know that he could survive the attack. i always missed that flyers part (im thinking its AFTER the autosave, when you start going on those bridges).. usually i just ran past that area and booked it to the breeding grounds.

it would be nice to have him alive for a good playthru, i remember mordin mentioned he knew kirrahe in ME2, and how he died trying to take out the breeding facility. "great commander, loved the speeches. HOLD THA LINE!!!"

Clarification: As female Shepard I sent Ashley with the Salarians and then chose to save her since I liked her backstory better, therefore Kaidan died at the bomb site. Kirrahe also died on Virmire, since I didn't take out the flyers.

Now: As male Shepard l did the satellite up-link, took out the flyers and the comm tower, then disabled the alarms and saved Kirrahe. I chose so save Kaidan this time, since in both playthroughs I've romanced Liara.

I have played me1 3 times. Not a single time has Kirrahe died. I didn't know he could die.

Also, I'm pretty sure you have to save whichever teammate you assigned to help the Salarians. If you rescue whichever teammate is guarding the bomb, then you don't go to the AA towers, and hence, you are nowhere near the AA towers where the Salarian team is fighting. So just make sure you assign whichever teammate you plan on rescuing to go with the Salarians.

I'm can't be 100% sure on that, but it has always worked for me. But then, I've also always taken out the Communications, Satellite Uplink, and Flyers/Refuelling Station so it could just be co-incidence.

No you do not. 

I've sent Ashley with Kirahhe and rescued Kaidan twice. Kirahhe and his squad survived both times.
