I have been noticing that new players have been joining several PWs every day. Seems things are actually increasing in the NWN World.

Awesome.

That's great news. Is there a link to a site that compiles such information? As someone not really familiar with the realm of PWs I would be interested in knowing where to find this sort of thing out.

Nothing scientfic but alot of smaller PWs and some of the major ones I have noticed have been gaining in numbers as we too have been. And seeing that some people were trying to dwell on the negativity of NWN aging I wanted to point out that alot of older players have been recently turning up for us and some other servers.

The only place I know of that show the number of players online is the old bioware site.  It currently shows about 970 players online.

I Like the site linked below also.   It comes from this thread on the old bioboards.

EDIT:  I hope you dont mind me useing you server as an example TMSDude.

I think there are still a good core of folks about; the challenge is finding compatible times to play for those in varying time zones. RL issues and new interests cause some to take a break for awhile at times. When those resolve, or they get bored, they often return, looking for fresh opportunities to adventure. I suspect this holds more true for those old guard PNP folk, than for those who originally came to play NWN via the "newest, hottest computer game" channel :)

My brother and his wife recently re-installed, and I picked up a copy at a charity shop that I bought for a friends son who likes fantasy games. He loves it and is even converting his dad. There's life in the old dog yet ;)

You may well have a point there.  I'm from a PnP background myself, and it's the ability to weave a good story among the action that has me loving the ability to create with it.

Exactly.  I'm more than satisfied with the current graphics and the still expanding ocean of CC available to paint the stories I wish to tell. I don't care if my games don't look as hot as the lastest FPS, the graphics support the story, they don't make the story IMHO.

I think we are seeing a small boon as of late as more players tend to start drifitng into the PnP style. I think this game above many else lends itself to that creative style much like PnP.

Information from 6 months ago:

Balduvard wrote...

There is information on BioWare's website concerning how many are playing NWN1 at any given time--it was recently clocked at around 700 during a North American weekend night (509 as of this post). There are no similar statistics for Neverwinter Nights 2 that I can find from Obsidian, but assuming an equivalent percentage of each community would use XFire, you can correlate the level of activity in each game by checking out their (243) respective pages (7).

The number of users playing NWN/NWN2 on XFire appear to have become more evened out since then, though still with more activity for NWN.

As to our own situation, it does not appear that we have gained more net players (there certainly are new faces), but rather that our playerbase has remained constant in the past 6 months, which is interesting to me since our only constant advertisement source at the moment is word of mouth. We have also seen several former players return to the game lately.

NWN has a huge advantage being that, in my (very passionate) opinion, it is the absolute BEST medium in computer gaming for truly immersive roleplay.

When NWN went digital-download on www.gog.com (Good Old Games) I cracked open a bottle of wine to celebrate. Almost ten years old, and here's to ten more.

Actually this has occured to me too.

I'll be looking to start my campaign again in the not too distant future and I'm seriously considering recruiting players from outside the community. You know... retro gaming and RPG gaming sites. It might be fun to have a bunch of newbies in the group. Remember the magic of your first MP NWN session? Wouldn't it be awesome to have three or four 1st level players experiencing that magic at the same time?

I have noticed the same thing. There's always a new player I teach the ropes to on the servers I play every day. It is still going. This game will always be around like Baldurs Gate. There's still servers going for that one hehe.
