Even though DA:O was better than DA2, it was still pretty good/fun for myself at least, although it did feel like a big prequel for DA3 than a game for itself.
Thank you as well for making fun games and enjoyable characters and tales.

You can change Shale's look - color of the crystals.

Recoloring doesn't change her look, her look is still unique to her.

You are right video games are a visual medium and they should not be locked to a single style.

Sorry, I'm going to disagree that looking like everybody else in the game with generic armor, the same animations and no personality to the way they dress is better for the medium.

Here's what I suggest in regards to the character customization that I think woul appease some of the issues that people have.

- For the actual looks themselves have the designers create 4 different looks for the characters that are unique to said character to be given after certain timelines/circumstances (ie for how DA2 currently is one for each act and when 100% friend/rivaly has been reached or romance has been completed).  Once received these looks can be switched back and forth without penalty.

-  For the RPG aspect of the customization, allow characters to switch pieces of armor and gaining the armor's benefits while keeping the character's unique look unless the player gives that character a full set of armor which would be shown visually as a color swap (as the majority of armors have a primary an seconary color).  For example if you gave Isabella the full armor of Ser Isaac, her bandanna on her arm an hair would turn the same blue as the visor part of the helmet an health bar on the back (secondary) and her dress woul change into the color of the armor itself (primary).  She gets the benefits of the complete armor set while keeping her unique look

This allows for customization of the character while allowing them to keep unique looks.   I don't know how realistic it would be at this point however.

I think that the idea behind companion armor is connected to having a human only PC. That way the armor found in loot doesn't have to fit elves and dwarfs and their male and female counter parts. Having a human only PC also prevents having dialogue and story line problems specific to elven and dwarven PCs. I don't believe that having a human only PC was driven by the story. It was just cheaper to use an human only PC.

I read your post and had to think hard how to respond. There is only one way for me and you probably don't like it. Here it goes anyway...

Mr Laidlaw, I still cannot get over the fact that I feel that the promises to add decisions that would impact the story plot were simply not implemented. That feature was not just my interpretation of the first pod cast or the marketing material, it was out there for everyone to see. Politely put, you were not telling the truth. I won't go into details. I've written about that until my fingers got numb. That didn't make me feel good about the company. So, despite that I like your post, I have my reservations about any promised changes. I am not eager to pre-order anymore or just buy a product because BW meant quality in the past. It just isn't true anymore.

In short... Your post didn't change anything for me.

This^ so totally, and I agree! I remember those marketing promos so well.

This^ Thirded. I will hopefully have a more lengthy, pithy, and civil reply of my own. Such consideration from you deserves a thoughtful response. Thank you for coming back here and posting.

For the next time you decide to do a personal narrative, can you actually include something individual for said character. Hawke had no special power or something to set her apart and the only characterization you got with her interaction with other characters. You know, something to make your character seem unique and important. The only time you really get something saying you are important before the whole champion thing is when the "Lost Patrol" qunari seems to set you apart from the rest of the bas in Kirkwall based on pretty much nothing.

DA:O, LESS content? Okay I am going to do something I try never to do outright on a thread....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope, coudln't contain myself, sorry. DAMN! That was funny! Thanks for the laugh...oh, wait. your were serious?:mellow::blink:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...BUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...SNORT....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay yep, sorry. I try to have a more meaningful dialogue, but that doesn't even get past the laugh test.

If I want less content, there are shooter games I can go play for that. Like Borderlands, which has some sort of a story...sorta. Or hell, I could just go play Peggle. I don't re-play DAO over and over and think it had too much content...nope. Not what I was thinking. Sorry Exile, I think that is the minority of players, and they could happily choose from a multitude of games with "less content."

Pssst...this is all in fun and not being mean to Exile, whose posts I happen to follow. I am being cheeky (mostly).:)

So you're laughing at him with him, not laughing at him at him?

Laughing because we already got less content...it was called DA2. And laughing because I am in a silly mood, exhausted from my job and everything is silly in the extreme. No I like exile, just trying to be jovial and goofy.

Is it really time to come back to the forums or is it an obligation as per DLC release schedule?"

With the obvious attention the brass are putting into this thread; one could easily feel they are being included into a very important staff meeting! I personally believe this to be a good idea and builds confidence for myself as a game owner.

The ideas are out there and being considered apparently. One thing is certain that the developers have created something special that has an effect. With that effect you get expansion and control.

Thank you guys for the games and let's all hope the franchise continues to grow. Our interest as players will always be one of discovery. I hope we discover some DLC coming; in a game that has potential and ended abruptly like a dizzying relationship gone awry. I can adapt to the rest.

More please* holds up tincup.

I couldn't have chosen poorer words. I meant to say less content with respect to length, but not less content overall. I'm not an idiot - I don't want to pay more for less.

But I would glady give up the entire Ashes questline if it meant lots more unique content for each Origin (for example).

I loved DA2 and can't wait for future DLC! I can understand where people are coming from on some points. My only complaints are the re-used dungeons and the waves of enemies.

The game made me laugh, cry and get angry. So it did it's job in my books. Obviously it's not DA:O but I think it's a good game all the same.

Thanks for the post Mike!

To expand on that, I think if a player is to get specialization (like Force Mage, Blood Mage or Spirit Healer) obtaining them should have plot specific interactions, like how Blood Mage in DA:O involved dealing with demons.

Learning force mage by discovering notes from Malcom, for example, or spirit healer from meeting a spirit of Faith or Charity in the Fade would be great.

While i did like a post and its a nice breath of fresh air. I have to agree word for word with AngryFrozenWater All it is, is just words. All i can go by is the past where we were told all of this and that, but in game we found it was half truths, outright lies, or not as significant as you made it seem. I know theres the marketing to sell the game but still. Forgive me if im not jumping for joy like the rest of the people here, but i think my reservations are also well justified.

There's an old yiddish saying to the effect a dagger wound heals easier than a wound from words. Words are extremely powerful.

As for the accusations of half truths and out right lies... I saw neither when I played DA2. With the exception of the recycled enviroments, most of what I saw in the complaints was subjective in that this game wasn't DAO2 or that they didn't like the framed narrative etc.

It has nothing to do with what we were expecting. Not me for me or those who  followed all the info of what this game was about. But as many have posted where we were told that it was a game over 10 years and shapes around the decisions we make. For me only 1 decision really did that and that was on ur sibling. Anything else was very minor, to affecting nothing in the end. Also it was only a 7 year story. As well as a darker richer story. Well the darker part i feel is a lie in regards to origins, primarily due to the artistic path it took.

Really? You think Origins was darker than DA2? Origins was shiney happy people compared to DA2 (not that I minded that in DAO, but there were a lot of options that could give you a fairytale ending to quests.)

Second: The game, which is Hawke herself, does shape around your choices. The reacticity of the narritive based on conversation alone builds who this person is, which the the whole point of the game, as it is expressed at the very beginning. We were also told it was a decade long (which includes the time Varric gets picked up), and then we played out the parts that had relevence to what shaped Hawke.

You may feel it's a lie, but again that's subjective. Doesn't mean they actually lied, and making accusations of such is rude. If you said the story disappointed you, I'd have no issue, but your choice of words implies malice on Bioware's part, something there is no proof of. As I said before words have more power than weapons to do damage, becareful how you use them.

its no comparison of what i thought was darker. DA2 had cases of deaths and stuff but without any attachment. Prolly the mothers case is the best that comes to mind. BUt DAo had it overall. the darkness of how the scenary was, especially the deep roads in comparisons to DA2. There wasnt always happy endings, thing is u got to choose wether it was happy or not most times. When i think of DA2 i think of a cartoon comic experience, especially wit the darkspawn and elves.

To be short some ofthe stuff that was said, wasnt experienced. The different degress i classify are either half truths or lies are for different specific things. WE only get to play 3 of the years. there is no game but rather a movie and even then all we get are a bit of slides. But thats another discussion. Words have more power than sticks and stones, i agree but thats also why what we have been told has also hurt us just as much if not more. Thats why i chose to  voice my opinion on this thread of what i think in hopefully a friendly matter, rather than an outburst.

A very classy response to the forum craziness from Mike Laidlaw and an interesting first look at the DLC as well. I am relieved he still mentions his pride in Dragon Age II. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think this game has the best storytelling I've ever experienced (in a game) and I'd be very sad to see a third installment return to a safer, more well-traveled route, but then I know I'm in the minority. Anyway, thank you Mike!

Guess we will just have to agree to disagree. I felt like delivery someones toe was an insult to my intelligence as a gamer. I  am not interested in instant gratifcation. I don't like things easily handed to me when I game.

There needs to be a fair compromise that appeals to ALL fans.

I don't understand what you're talking about. Where did I say anything about instant gratification?

The questline in DA2 sucked. It was even worse than the Chanter board DA:O quests. Why would you think I'd defend that sort of garbage?

Having great quests from the start has nothing to do with gratification and everything to do with getting valuable content worth the $$ we paid in the first place.

My apologies for misunderstanding you. :D

That is something we agree with you. I want my money's worth when I play a game.  I definitely got my moneys worth with Origins and while I did have fun with DA:2 it was not worth the $60.00 I paid for it.
$39.95 to $45.00...perhaps but not $60.00

Mike,

I actually rate DA:2 a 7/8. I did have fun...I just have to beg for one thing....

Please Please bring back finishing moves at least to **some** extent.

I loved watching my Origins characters get the final blow for the ogre and High Dragon.

I don't see why the Hawke character has to be the one to get the final kill in the cutscenes.

Poor Mr. Butler would be so sad! Also, Deep Roads and Fade (with that thingy in Video Options disabled) are my favourite parts of the game, well, the whole game is my favourite part of the game. I just have as much fun there as in the other areas. (plus the Fade is the only area we get to play different characters! And can use them differently everytime)

Just check the total amount of views for Origins videos on YouTube and compare it to DA2. People like Origins a lot more! (in my case, 1,800,000 x 50,000)

What did you actually expect? 10 years worth of game play? Other alternatives would have been to cover more years but then the time spent in each period would have been shorter and there would have been the risk of the game being more disjointed than it is, and its disjointedness is a complaint people have about it as it is. The fact is the game covered 10 years to various degrees like they said it would.

Whats important to me is actual game play time and it took me 60 hours to finish which is more than reasonable.
