Uh oh. I don't think we're in Kirkwall anymore.
That's it. If I get to name a griffon, it's being called Toto.

This is an awesome statement. Pretty much the things everyone complains of right off the bat. Thanks, Mike for writting up such a nice response. I hope we hear about DLC soon! Those shots are pretty cool. I still have hope for DA3 at least.Issues like level re-use, the implementation of wave combat, concerns about the narrative and significance of choice and so on have all been not only noted, but examined, inspected and even aided me (and many, many others on the team) in formulating future plans.

And something more to add. I was fully aware of the flaws of Dragon age 2, yet I still enjoyed it. Imagine if you would have had time! God it would have been amazing. I am fully aware of the factors that affected DA2's production. It has been hinted to many times for me not to take notice. So... I do not only applaud you for taking this nuke of a reaction like a proffesional, and keeping your anger at bay; you have also come out and *thanked* us. Thank us! Your greatest allies and enemies!
It's a shame you haven't managed to talk to us more. Your posts hold a lot of weight, and people listen eagerly. They *want* Bioware to be the best, that's why they boo! Some of course are complete and utter dicks who deserve nothing more than a slap to the head (a rather hard one,) but I know the vast majority who have critisised this game have done it for that purpose, even if I have had heated arguements with some before.
So Mike, to conclude this: I do not only applaud you for this, I thank you for giving us a spark of hope. The DLC looks good from the screenshots, I do not expect much since DLCs in general are very short and barely do anything to make a large impact. I will buy it of course! What kind of DA addict would I be without it?

Thirded. I loved it too. So thank you!
Fourthed. I really love Dragon Age 2 and I spent many long sleepless nights glued to my computer after I bought it. It's really something special. Thanks!

So let me say thank you in turn for braving the deep waters and writing such a comprehensive post, Mr. Laidlaw.
At any rate, it's good to know that key criticisms have been taken into account. I must admit the recycling of dungeons was a tad disappointing, if not game-breaking. With more time and resources at your disposal, I'm certain the level designers would've done more to imbue the environments with more variety.
I happened to love Dragon Age 2, and I thought its approach was completely justifiable.
To me, it had a more refined aesthetic, it elicited far more intimate feelings of attachment to the characters and it introduced substantial thematic content which Origins only peripherally alluded to.
I'm looking forward to future DLC, and I hope you'll give yourselves the time to make the most of it!

These screenshots - is it DA3 or a DLC? If DLC I hope it's free. I still think BioWare owns me for broken expectations.

Also, hold the freaking phone. Did you just drop the G-word? Dare I hope? That aside, those areas look neato. Good differentiation. Whatever those are from seems to be addressing a few of the concerns about environment variety. Hope we get some news soon.

Mr Laidlaw, I still cannot get over the fact that I feel that the promises to add decisions that would impact the story plot were simply not implemented. That feature was not just my interpretation of the first pod cast or the marketing material, it was out there for everyone to see. Politely put, you were not telling the truth. I won't go into details. I've written about that until my fingers got numb. That didn't make me feel good about the company. So, despite that I like your post, I have my reservations about any promised changes. I am not eager to pre-order anymore or just buy a product because BW meant quality in the past. It just isn't true anymore.
In short... Your post didn't change anything for me.

Well, I certainly hope that the market has showed a big Sten's NO to the new direction Bioware took it in. Back to Basics always seems to work, in many areas.
And the question still is:
Dragon Age: Origins - Why are the Griffons gone?

DA2 has firmly driven home the point that what BioWare says and what a BioWare game actually is can be radically different. I need more than words from now on.

Griffons?
I'll be the cynic I suppose, and while it all sounds nice that the feedback is being taken to heart, only time shall tell how this results in future DA products being better for the stumbling blocks encountered in DA2. I like the DA universe a great deal, but sadly, DA2 as a game pretty much sucked dry any faith I had in BioWare games just being safe buys. Words are all nice and comforting, but as others have already noted, there was much said in the run up to DA2 which didn't turn out once the final product was released, for whatever reasons might have been at cause.
Hopefully whatever DLC comes up will show some reactivity to the problems of DA2, but I'll wait and see from now on. Unless of course, DA3 was announced as bringing back the Warden as silent PC with Morrigan, in a non hot rod samurai art style, with no awesome button in sight, with the tactical camera and toolset returning, as they ride across Thedas on griffons with the OGB amidst World War Thedas in an engine that can go toe to toe with The Witcher 2 visually. Then I might consider pre-ordering.
