Mike,

Thanks for taking the time to post your viewpoint in a positive manner.

Personally I really enjoyed DAII, I never experienced any of the bugs or had any technical issues with the game.

The only disappointment was being trapped in Kirkwall, DAII really felt like a single chapter more than a full story, all be it a long chapter. Hopefully we can get out of the city and its surrounding areas with some new DLC which has been lacking since release.

Good words, thank you for posting. You listed every problem I had with the game (enemy waves, area re-use, lack of choice impact) so I have faith DA3 will be a big improvement.

For sake of repetition, I want to say again I love the new combat and art style in general.

Let's just pretend Dragon Age 2 never happened, and start anew.

I played through TW2 once. It is the same thing that Bioware put off with Dragon Age 2 just with better scripting and graphics.  I really do not see how it's better than TW1 and other BioWare classics.

I agree, though you better have a flame shield equipped. >.>

No because for all the "action RPG talk DA2 at least had RPG based combat. Select skill, point, click, attack. I'm not really doing anything other than thinking. TW2 is all twitcher type combat based on the skill of the player not player character that would make a AC fan smile from ear to ear. People want to talk about what is going to kill RPG's it is this type of evolution where the "skills" become add ons to player ability and not a reflection of a character's ability.

...or the city needs to be Liberty City (GTA), Rome (AC:B) sized city where we can get lost in it.

Kirkwall is small and frankly not very city-ish. I mean lift the maps of kirwall's areas and ask anyone who hasn't played what they are maps of. City streets won't be one of the top 10 answers.

 a pleasant enough post
Although when it comes down to it actions will speak louder then words in this instance. I wont be making any judgements about the direction of the franchise until DA3 assuming I'm still interested by that point. I certainly wont be buying another DA product unless significant changes are made

You're assuming everyone hated him to begin with. A few loud people jumping up and down with torches doesn't really make a mob.

Thank you for taking the time to step back from what the community members have posted and truly absorb what has been written. Thedas and the DA universe in general is such a deep, rich environment, and has such great potential. I know I am looking forward to seeing where Team BioWare takes us.

Bioware broke the trust,
You sold out your soul to EA,

Bioware was the last of the trusted studios, you traded that for a little extra money.
Dragon Age was a game of weight and of style, DA2 was a cash grab.
Now every Bioware game has to be vetted, is it a Real Bioware game or just dribble.

Preorders will not be a given anymore,
I know you need to make money but this was wrong, will MA3 take place on a four room station?

You had to know DA2 was not worthy of the title, but you did it anyway.

So sad to see a hero die, rest in peace Bioware.

I would suggest, if your not dead to compensate the fans, not with more DA2 but something else.

Ex loyal fan (was playing Bioware games from the start )

Thank you, Mike, for taking the time to post here. I've actually been worried that you and the rest of the team might have felt disheartened by all the negative feedback and (more than occasionally) verbal abuse that swept through here and on other gaming-related sites for a while.

Just know that there are a LOT of us out there who haven't really posted here or elsewhere to tell you guys how much we love DA2 (AND Origins, it's ok to like both of them despite what some might think). But we did love the game, a lot! We especially loved how you spread the love equally to female and male fans, be they straight or gay. That's something very special and in my opinon you guys at Bioware show where gaming should head in the future when it comes to equality between players.

We also love the fandom that has cropped up around all those brilliant characters you guys introduced to us. Pop by DeviantArt and feel the love sometime! The awesomeness of the mHawke/Fenris and Fenris/Anders fancomics alone will make it worth your time. ;)

Also, thanks for the pictures! Aaahhh I can't wait!

That's a pretty awesome post by Iron Mike. Nobody's perfect, and no company can make every game awesome, heck even in the most popular series in the world like the Final Fantasy or Madden series you'll find awesome and less awesome editions. The key is to learn from what works and what doesnt, and make the next one even better than the one before, and Mike stated quite clearly that is his intention. Not everybody hits a home run their first time at the plate, and I have every confidence that the DLC, and DA3, will show those elements of improvement and awesomeness that we all want to see. There's a lot to like about DA2, and I'm sure there will be a lot more to like going forward, both about DA2 DLC as well as DA3. Thanks for the update and the fantastic comments Mike, as well as those awesome pictures! Can't wait to see even more!

People were just being, indeed, loud cause of their disappointment. I doubt it was hate.
"A few" doesn't really cut it though. From what i have been reading around many game/critic sites all this time, i'd say a really big chunk of the players, if not the biggest.

It's nice to see the games faults being openly acknowledged. Indeed the team has every right to be pleased with their work, it was a good game, even with some terrible flaws piggybacking the game; personally I enjoyed it.

However keep a careful eye and ear for criticism from outside of Bioware forums. The worst thing is to only listen to an insular environment, and push into production based on that.

Otherwise for the love of gaming Bioware you need to pull your world building and mechanically reinforcing characterization up to speed. While DA2 was a step back, even to DA:O in general it seriously pulls down the narrative, and even games as far back as Gothic 2 to recent The Witcher 2 are just well ahead.

I think a lot of the insults and hate thrown at Mike just came from a very loud minority. It's one thing to dislike DA2 (and believe me, I was incredibly disappointed by it), but it's just not necessary to attack someone on a personal level over it. As much as I was displeased with DA2, I've never disliked the guy over it. Differing opinions on design decisions in a video game doesn't make someone a bad person.

Not even close. I'm not sure what critic sites you visit, but most are not confusing being unhappy with the game with Mike being burned at the sake. I can't recall a single critic that said such.

Most players are intellegent enough to realize games are not the work of a single person and just want to play good ones. We don't demand the firing of someone over one misfire. We want them to learn and improve.

Way to take it like a champ, Laidlaw. You know, despite its flaws, Dragon Age 2 was a fun game with a great story I played multiple times, and I can only say that about maybe half-a-dozen games I've played in the last 10 years or so. Kudos to your team, and here's to always striving to improve!

And thank you for making Dragon Age 2! I personally loved it, and I love the new direction BioWare took it in. I look forward to the DLC and expansions.

100% opposite of this opinion.  I won't be purchasing DA3 till I read a ton of reviews and will be waiting weeks after release to see if you improve the formula to be more like DA1 (or fix the massive amount of issues I had with DA2).

Well I had similar thoughts but I was playing a witty, charming, often well meaning swashbuckler (rogue) who often made bad choices for the right reasons. Just worked perfectly. Meanwhile my wife felt similar on her first playthrough. Her rogue, though also just male and a rogue, shared almost nothing in common with mine aside from those two points. He was a diplomatic, soft spoken archer with very different sexual preferences.

Which tells me the game can work well with a wide variety of character concepts. But most players have a concept that it going to push their buttons far more than other combinations. Unfortunately, not everyone is going to stumble on the combination thats perfect for them on their first playthrough. Which is an issue.

That happened for me in DA:O. My Warden didn't want to be a Warden (but did want to save Ferelden) yet the game never recognized that potential motivation. It just assumed, in fact, you wanted/cared/identified with the Wardens. Which is fine - all RPGs need a buy in. Except DA:O had the origins, where you get a totally different non-Warden background. And DA:O never gave me a reason to want to be a Warden once it had me buy in to not wanting to be one.
