Also, there seem to be rather a lot of….are those griffins?
I think they might be!

Are you saying that there are griffins in this DLC? If there are no griffins in it, I don't want it :P

I think we can take it as a 100%, concrete, definite promise that there will be griffins, that's just how Bioware roll.

Not that I don't appreciate the bits of information we're getting as opposed to nothing, but all this teasing is cruel, like waving food infront of a hungry person. Can I just have my cake so I can eat it?

On-topic: Nice to have you back, Mike, glad you didn't go postal all over the forum. A better man than I, that's for sure.

Could you please restate your support, even in general terms, for a detachable camera as an important part of tactical gameplay? You were right, a detachable camera is an important feature, and DA2 doesn't have it. I really wish it did.

I'll second this request. From a gameplay perspective my enjoyment would at the very least have doubled from having this feature available.

If Bioware had listened to the feedback to Awakening, DA2 would have been a different game.

I don't think it would have. Eighteen months is not enough to do any AAA game credit.

To add to that, DA2 was in development before any of the major criticisms started showing up. You can't change the foundation of a building in mid-sentence. Now, none of us can really say at what stage it was in, but given the deadline, and even if it were not rushed, you can't just change major stuff in the middle of production.

Isn't the second one basically just a rehash of Kirkwall itself?

Not quite. It's more like someone blew up Kirkwall and all you have left is rabble. To me it looks like a quarry or a mine.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was the Chantry after Anders' magic trick.

I can imagine it right now:

Newest DA2 DLC: Chantry in Smithereens!
One year after the mage templar war, Hawke has returned to Kirkwall. Having heard numerous rumours that ghosts and undead have inhabited the ruins of the Chantry and disappearances, Hawke sets out to unravel the mysteries of the ruins of the Chantry.
Embark on an all-new adventure, with as final boss Grand Cleric Elthina, possessed by a Pride Demon!

My point is if he had shown something of this scale I would have been far more excited than seeing things that look simular to what has already been released in DAO and DA2. That I don't find the concept art he showed as personally exciting and would have prefered a larger concept peices over broader area

I don't think the engine is capable of that. Whatever DA2 DLC might be, it can never match a living world without a new engine.

I commend you for not jumping into mudslinging - it's so easy when the mob descends upon you ;-)
In any event, I enjoyed different aspects of both games. In DAO, I suffered through the combat to get to the story. In DA2, I had a blast with the combat, but felt less immersed in the story. I would imagine you know what needs attention.

Criticism aside, I thank everyone who's worked on Dragon Age - I love the world, story, setting (when not repetitive - lol), and continue to replay both games. Looking forward to what comes next.

The screenshots look pretty awful. You guys really need a new engine. Look what it did for the Witcher.

Mike Laidlaw's post condensed into 4 sentences:
"Sorry. We ****ed up. We're working on it. We still want the CoD crowd."

I have a question for you mr. Laidlaw, are you considering an engine change or do you think Lycium still has more to offer?
Also are you going to be more open about what we can expext from the franchise in the future, as in are you continuing down this path or are you considering a different direction?

Yup. They really look ugly. But still, as long as we don't have to walk through those same enviroments over and over and over again.....

Well I had similar thoughts but I was playing a witty, charming, often well meaning swashbuckler (rogue) who often made bad choices for the right reasons. Just worked perfectly. Meanwhile my wife felt similar on her first playthrough. Her rogue, though also just male and a rogue, shared almost nothing in common with mine aside from those two points. He was a diplomatic, soft spoken archer with very different sexual preferences.

Which tells me the game can work well with a wide variety of character concepts. But most players have a concept that it going to push their buttons far more than other combinations. Unfortunately, not everyone is going to stumble on the combination thats perfect for them on their first playthrough. Which is an issue.

That happened for me in DA:O. My Warden didn't want to be a Warden (but did want to save Ferelden) yet the game never recognized that potential motivation. It just assumed, in fact, you wanted/cared/identified with the Wardens. Which is fine - all RPGs need a buy in. Except DA:O had the origins, where you get a totally different non-Warden background. And DA:O never gave me a reason to want to be a Warden once it had me buy in to not wanting to be one.

Pretty much this happened to me as well and it left a sour taste that I couldn't shake off in later playthroughs. I haven't had one playthrough where the game didn't feel like a chore. But I recognize it as a great game, it just wasn't that much fun for me. In that regard DA2 worked much better for me since I had no trouble finding motivation for Hawke.

I do wish DA2 had a "origin" start for Hawke though. Even if it just meant spending a few minutes in Lothering to see how they lived and what they did during the days. I really liked the origins from DAO and they were a great way to tell the backstory for the PC.

Sounds good to me as well.

And may I add that Bioware has neglected a particular constituency with respect to Love Interests?  Bioware has provided straight, gay, and bisexual Love Interests in several of their games, but where is "The Orgy Option"?

Bioware teases at the option in DA:O (Isabella plus two) and in DA2: (Isabella plus two).  .... Whoa,... wait a minute... I just realized the common demoninator in both of those fades-to-black.  Posted Image

Just kidding; don't change anything.  ... Though I am curious about the legendary "Gryphon" position.  I hear it's big with the Warden contingent.  Posted Image
