Though I won't be purchasing any DLC for DA2 at this point, this gives me a lot of hope for the future of the series, particularly with DA3 reported to already be in development.

I hope your future DLC is more to what DA2 should have been. On paper the game sounded perfect and exactly what I wanted as an improvement to Origins. But it simply didn't happen the way many of us expected. Im reluctant to move forward with the series at present. Which is a terrible shame. From what you stated it sounds like you know exactly where the faults lie. So I hope the DLC redeems the series for me.

Hey guys and gals,
As some of you have noted, I have been absent from these forums for a time, and my apologies for going dark, but I did not feel prepared to deal with some of the more personal attacks in a professional manner. And as a rule if I don't feel like I'm going to be professional, I don't post. You guys deserve better than that.
Now, while I haven't been posting, we have been listening. Several folks have been active on the forums and moderating the more extreme discussions, and more of us have been collecting your feedback, concerns, criticisms and the parts you enjoyed of DA II. This feedback is invaluable to us, and so I wanted to take a moment and say thank you.

Still not that happy with Dragon Age II though. I mean, come on. The DLC we've gotten so far was a weapons pack....including armor for companions that we probably should have just been able to change in game.
Hey though, Bioware's smart enough not to make the same mistake twice. The same people who made DA, Mass Effect, and KOTOR won't just shovel garbage at us....right?

And thank you for making Dragon Age 2! I personally loved it, and I love the new direction BioWare took it in. I look forward to the DLC and expansions.
Thanks from me as well!

Well said, Mike. I loved DAII and I hope that, given resources and time, DLC, expansions and DAIII will take the franchise to new heights. It's good to see that you are indeed collecting feedback from both sides.
And those screenies....they are GORGEOUS. Now those are the Bioware enviroments I love. Thanks for sharing them & keep up the excellent work!

I read your post and had to think hard how to respond. There is only one way for me and you probably don't like it. Here it goes anyway...
Mr Laidlaw, I still cannot get over the fact that I feel that the promises to add decisions that would impact the story plot were simply not implemented. That feature was not just my interpretation of the first pod cast or the marketing material, it was out there for everyone to see. Politely put, you were not telling the truth. I won't go into details. I've written about that until my fingers got numb. That didn't make me feel good about the company. So, despite that I like your post, I have my reservations about any promised changes. I am not eager to pre-order anymore or just buy a product because BW meant quality in the past. It just isn't true anymore.
In short... Your post didn't change anything for me.
This^ so totally, and I agree! I remember those marketing promos so well.

I'm curious, where are those images from? Is it from Kirkwall/surroundings or somewhere else? Also, when did those images get made?

For this and working on DA:O and DA2.
I love both of them and although they aren't perfect (But what is?) the good far outweighs the bad imo.
Only way this DLC can be better is if it continues Morrigan's story!

Is it possible for you to qualify this at all? This is the same generalization that you seem to keep falling back on, but it doesn't actually mean anything outside your offices. What did you do that moved you to this "space that has more potential"?Mike Laidlaw wrote...
Finally, let me conclude by saying that while we are all aware of your concerns, I am very proud of what the team accomplished with Dragon Age II. I know many are advocating a "it wasn't broke, why did you try to fix it?" stance, and I absolutely understand why. From my perspective, as someone looking to the future and the DA franchise, I think that DA II moved us into a space that has more potential.
Or rather, what did Origins do that so limited its potential that, even after acknowledging the many missteps of the sequel, you feel the need to call to attention that you made the right choice, the best choice, the only choice?
I liked DA2. I like the changes for the most part (not necessarily the end results, mind you, but I think there are good ideas underlying some of them). But I fail to see how you've moved so decisively to reposition the series to make up for these mysterious flaws from Origins, that completely outweighs the various things that aren't much lauded in this sequel?
The cynic in me believes this is simply the "Mass Effect" transition (which would have happened regardless, except that Origins started development in the 1980s), where you simply change things so that you can produce games that can be played well on console and can be made in the limited time you're given. I.e., "streamline" the combat system and remove as much of the "optional interaction" elements as you can get away with? (Not too much of which really bothers me, as long as you can still churn out games that have the same "soul" as all your previous works, which you weren't able to accomplish in DA2 for me.)

Hey, if it helps, there's at least one person who liked DA2 and doesn't want to personally murder your firstborn child.
Nah, there's a whole bunch of us who would never make personal threats. It's a game, we loved the first game of the series and many were sad/angry/(insert your disapproval emotion here) when the fears were confirmed.
But hey, even Rebecca Black got some Likes to her Friday. I'm not saying DA2 is the Friday of RPG's but it does seem to have used some auto tuning!
