While I am one of the more "Hateres" one might say. I am glad to see your two cents on these forums. I am also glad to see things approached in such a professional manor, It does show abit of character.
I will not likely purchase any of the DLC's that pertain to DA2 with out lots of research. If i do not think you did indeed learn, then i wont buy.
It is my sincerest hope that moving forward things are learned, things are improved and that no where near these mistakes are ever made again. That DA3 will learn what made DAO AND DA2 amazing and work to bring something that not only you and your team is proud to make, but also us the fans are proud to purchase and tell our friends what they are missing out on. to tell our tale, and listen to them speak of there "Grey Warden", or "Hawk".

Here is to moving forward. and seeing what the future brings.

If you are a Hater, this post sure isn't an example  of it.. Well written; well thought! Thank you!

And still you need the wisdom to distinguish which critic is valid or you just close your eyes.

Tis a fragile balance indeed.

To me Bioware is the Maria Callas of gaming studios. And a critic once said of her: "What sets her apart is that from her, even a flawed night leaves you spellbound once the curtain falls. Her artistry encompasses the notes, makes ink on paper come alive. She is the voice of humanity, in all its failings and virtues."

Oh bravo Persephone
At the risk of pulling your quote out of context (and I'm sorry if I do), this: "She is the voice of humanity, in all its failings and virtues." is what I think of Hawke.

Maria Callas was a phenomenon. She had a voice that polarized and still made it unforgetable. She was a unique soprano.

That's how I think of my Canon Lady Hawke as well. To underline the point even further......another critic called Callas "the voice of suffering".

One need not understand the lyrics to be moved by this:

www.youtube.com/watch

The lyrics are about a high priestess embracing death after breaking her vow of chastity, imploring her father for mercy for her children.

Do not turn them into victims of my fatal mistake
Do not crush these innocent blossoms
Remember that I am of your blood!
For them I ask you for mercy!
Oh, father, have mercy for my children!
(Repeats)

The word "Pieta!" (Mercy!) at 2.00 It's not beautiful....it's an outcry of anguish.

The rest of the scene is her accepting death after he promises to safeguard her children.

I thought that Dragon Age II was a great game. I honestly enjoyed it a lot more than Dragon Age 1 (although it still doesn't live up to the greats, like Baldur's Gate II and Planescape: Torment).

Honestly, I've played through it twice, and the only thing that really bothers me is the re-use of areas. I definitely don't mind re-visiting the same area many times (i.e., we're going back to the foundry again). What bothers me is when you have two areas that are supposed to be totally separate things (two different caves, two different ancient tombs) and they look identical.

In short, I loved the game, and I loved revisiting areas, and I hope that Dragon Age III is exactly like Dragon Age II. I was only slightly put off by the re-use of the same map for what were supposed to be different areas, because it breaks suspension of disbelief.

I do hope that your hopes are dashed. Quite a lot of gamers, myself included, won't touch DA3 if it resembles DA2.

How about hoping for a compromise? That's what I am hoping for, for what it's worth.

Hah well I'm happy to have found a kindred soul in this then!
Also, stunningly beautiful song.

My Hawke tried very hard to keep the peace, to avoid violence. Only to have everything she loved ripped away from her piece by piece. (She romanced Anders btw) It was a gripping tragedy that truly moved me.

We already have Mass Effect for that. I'd prefer it if they kept that series and Dragon Age as completely separate entities instead of trying to compromise between them. Dragon Age needs to find its own unique focus and run with it.

I always pictured you as more of a Fenris gal, Perse(even though they are virtually the same character, just flipsides. Both have one-track minds, though one rants "mages, mages, mages!" The other one shouts "templars, templars, templars!" Just my take on them, of course.)

I absolutely fell in love with DAO. It was by far the best, most complex game I have ever played. I knew that for me, it would be highly unlikely that DA2 could come close to providing the same experience. I worried that there was so much hype that it was bound to dissappoint. At first, while I liked DA2, I was indeed a bit disappointed. I have to be honest. You know the drill by now. But after re-playing the game 4 times, I find myself liking it more and more. In fact, I can now say that I love this game and I look forward to more DLC's (Please??!!!)

I have a PS3 and once I upgrade my computer I will purchase the PC version. I did this with DA0. I loved the contributions that the modders brought to DAO (toolset anyone?). The mods added to the game IMO and provided even more replay value to it.

I think DA2 offers something different and something that can lead to an extremely interesting DA3. The possibilities are exciting. I hope it will be possible to merge the best from the two approaches.

I think the Bioware Team is well aware of some of the things that many players did not care for in DA2, and some of the things that people loved in DA2. I appreciate you taking stock of the feedback. I wonder if the intensity with which some of feedback was expressed is a testament to how passionatley people feel about this franchise - which is a really compliment to you and your team when you think about it.

I believe that it was Abraham Lincoln who said something like - "you can please some of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time"

So good luck with DA3 - and thanks for two different - but great games.

Nuh Uh!!! I still want Anders, Fenris & Izzy. And I want to see how the seekers *spoiler*. And how the chantry *spoiler*. And why the templars *spoiler*. And where Hawke and the Warden *spoiler*. And mage combat. And some of the artwork. And the qunari.

And out of DAO: I want more Loghain....

Er...I think I did it wrong......:P

I actually suggested having the entirety of Dragon Age II be a mere figment of Varric's overactive imagination. Perhaps we can bust him out of an insane asylum in Dragon Age III and subsequently recruit him?
