Yep, there are many opinions on the various characters. I think that's a sign that Bioware are doing a great job. And there was no sarcasm intended.

Yeah, I think the extremes in the characters do exactly what they should, they provoke responce and a strong opinion on the character. THAT or you are actually torn between liking and not liking a character, liking them for their standpoint and hating them for their actions based on that standpoint.

I adore I can BE disgusted and genuinly annoyed/pissed off at character I actually generally like. Good job Bioware!

No here we are: Isabela is NOT a hooker. Women who change partners frequently aren't w.hores, s.luts or hookers.

I disagree.

Then be happy with your pre-historic sexism. -_-

I find it ironic that your avatar is a mouse.

It's a rabbit. And you should be ashamed for not being familiar with Angel the bunny.

Regardless, if you're fine with people flinging terms like "wh*re" around and speaking about a female character, fictional or otherwise, as if she'd bed anything with a pulse, that's your business. But I won't stand for it.

I enjoyed a lot of Dragon Age 2, Mike.  Things got blown out of proportion.  I think it was expectations.  But, the reuse of areas, respawning emenimies...it's good to see you taking a look at those complaints.
But don't be afraid to experiment.  DA 2 was great, to me, because it tried to expand the world.  Did we miss the Wardens?  Sure.  But I had a great time with it.  I like Hawke and hope to see his story finished, so to speak, soon.
And those screen shots look spectacular.  DLC?  I hope.  Can't wait. Image IPB

I don't understand why anyone would minimize things like Hawke's passive reactivity, the utter lack of meaningful choices that had any impact on the story, and bizarre issues like a mage!Hawke--or even a bloodmage! Hawke--not being recognized as such being blamed as a gameplay limitation, as being blown out of proportion and "just" a problem of expectations, and then turn around and express gratitude that map recycling and respawning enemies are being addressed.

Seriously?  The rather major issue of not being able to affect the story in any meaningful way whatsoever, is considered fan exaggeration, while reused maps are considered a more important issue?  Wow.

Still think Aveline is a better character than Isabella. I prefer the Xena type over the pirate wench type.

Asmuch as I understand the mage-argument, what would you have had them do?
Basicly people seeing you're a mage, or even a bloodmage would logicly result in you ending up either dead or locked up in the Gallows. Ifnot, you'd have to kill your way through x-tons of templars to begin with, which would limit your gameplay and characterdev to either death as a mage, or turning into an evil mofo.
Casual recognition of you being a mage frequently without consequence makes 0 sense with the mage-tention in DA2 being as it is.

So yeah, it's odd. But I don't believe they could have 'fixed' it.

As to the plot-point and feeling like you have a lack of impact on the overall story, I've adressed this issue multiple times in numerous threads, so meh. Not gonna bother again.
I'll just say: I can see it might be annoying to some, while it wasen't for me.

Oh, I prefer Aveline as well. One of the best characters Bioware ever created IMO. And her Act II quest is made of WIN!

As a woman myself....that REALLY incenses me. A woman who makes no excuses for her sexuality and the fact that she'll be with whomever she chooses is not a w.hore. She is not taking money for it, nor is she getting it on with everyone. And men like her are usually patted on the shoulder for "scoring" while women who are like her are called names and treated like cheap trash. *Bristling*:pinched:

Indeed. I happen to not have too much respect for women and men of the same variety (I have enough respect to treat them politely but that's as far as it goes). And it's a lifestyle I completely reject. But I would not call either wh*ores or heroes.  It is offensive and yes, it becomes annoyingly hypocritical when men are not considered the same.

I thought it was made of win initially too, but then I had to needlessly slaughter wave after wave of mabari, mercs and Tal Vashoth, as once again the game has to remind me that the only thing Hawke is good at is pointless slaughter.

Exactly. Which is why they probably should have reconsidered the story they were trying to tell with DA2, instead of just blundering ahead regardless under the assumption their audience was either too dumb or indiscriminate to care.

Yep. That is generally Hawke's modus operandi. Brawn over brain.

I for one, say I am glad to see you back Mr. Laidlaw. You handle the flak you've gotten with grace, if anything, that proves you certainly deserve your position in Bioware. Thank you sir!

This just in, Isabela isn't a real person and as such incapable of taking offense. Are you going to report people for making fun of Alistair liking cheese next?

My Lady Hawke sure had loads of fun playing matchmaker/clearing the way. "Maker, she IS bad at this!" Hehehehe. Worked out beautifully.

The fighting was pointless. And did not make any sense unless I have to believe that your average every day to day guards patrol has to massacre a couple of dozens of mabari.

The quest did not need fighting. It only needed Hawke moving from point to point scouting and watching out for danger. It would have conveyed the point beautifully and concisely. But instead, I had to *again* massacre waves of enemies.

At the end of the day, both versions of Hawke have killed the same amount of spiders, alleyway-thugs, blood mages, templars etc, etc. Oh wait, no they haven't. My Hawke spared Ari because she looked up to the Qun's philosophies.

Unless the story is set in Tevinter or you are a warden, being a mage is going to be a problem, they wrote themselves into a corner with their own lore.

I think I'm a tad bit late to the party but, anyways, I just wanted to thank Mike Laidlaw for coming back with this thread and addressing the community's concerns in such professional way.

It's been a bit of a hard time for most of us here in the forums since DA2 launched, both for those who loved the game and for those of us who still keep "skeptical" about the new direction of the series has taken. While the fact that the game kind of disappointed me still waves heavy over my head it's reassuring to see the developers are taking feedback into account and seem adamant to change what many of us perceive weren't great additions to the franchise.

All in all, thank you Mike, John, Luke and all the rest of the developers that keep with us fans, hear us and talk with us here in the forums even if we go overboard some times, I know Dragon Age 2 was a bit of a gamble because of all the departures it took not only from DA:O but from the general structure of the fantasy genre, and, while I must admit I will mainly keep skeptical until I see what's coming next, I respect you from taking such risks and expect great things from you guys at Bioware in the future.

Thank YOU.

Around 85% of Jerkwall's population would disagree with you, pal.
