So yeah, it's odd. But I don't believe they could have 'fixed' it.

Exactly. Which is why they probably should have reconsidered the story they were trying to tell with DA2, instead of just blundering ahead regardless under the assumption their audience was either too dumb or indiscriminate to care.

Thinking about it, seeing the story is what it is I suppose they could have done one of two things.
1. No mages as PC. (=backlash)
2. Mages as PC's but stick Hawke in a social position early that 'saves' him/her from certain reprecussions for being a mage. (=backlash for it being 'conveniently so', no doubt)

I don't think this can be won.

At the end of the day, both versions of Hawke have killed the same amount of spiders, alleyway-thugs, blood mages, templars etc, etc.

Do we have stats on how many people Hawke killed? I would not be surprised if they  numbered over 2000.
In TW2, I got the achievement of killing 500 at around the end of Act 2, so I am thinking that it's around 6 to 700 by the end. That's really more than enough.

When you have to kill thousands, essentially becoming a mass killer which stands in sharp contrast to how useless Hawke is in the story, I think you have a problem.

oh gawd

women can't fight

according to Qun

since your Hawke looks up to Qun

she must give up fighting

is that clearer

Frankly, i'm surprised Hawke hasn't been convicted on account of being a mass-murderer, even if it is self-defense.

I know about the Tamassrans, you doofus. I was only stating how Hawke's only skill is killing. Nothing else.

Around 85% of Jerkwall's population would disagree with you (disagree about what exactly?) = Hawke's only skill is killing

maybe you could give me the detailed logic chain here, because that really makes no sense

I meant that she constantly gets attacked by waves of enemies during night-time. And considering how low on NPCs Kirkwall is, I figure that Hawke killed off that many.

Look at The Witcher 2. That game shows what the medium is capable of, and indeed what you are capable of accomplishing. Your challenge is to exceed the standards set there.

More story. More choices. More quality art. More personality.

We don't get any points for having more controllable party members, or, say, playable genders? ^_^

Don't get me wrong, I think TW2 is great, and I hope it does very well. There's not enough fantasy RPG out there.

Just wanted to say that the option of playing as a girl was definitely one of the first things to draw me into Dragon Age: Origins. My boyfriend originally showed me the game. He had been playing it and trying to get me to play and I kept brushing him off until I finally sat down and started a game as a female Cousland and I NEVER looked back. Hell I know way more about Dragon Age and the lore than he does now. I was sick and tired of playing games were I have no choice but to run around as some muscle bound beef head from the bicep brigade. I don't know about other female gamers, but for me I always found it super hard to relate to the main character of a game if it's male. Thank you guys so much for thinking of us female gamers. Yes, we are fewer and more far between than male gamers, but we ARE here. <3

I wouldn't happily walk around in Kirkwall either with the problems in the city being as they are =P

Btw, aside from being good at killing, Hawke seems to be stellar in the sack too.

I wouldn't come even near it. In fact, I'd avoid the Free Marches completely to make sure I am as far away from that Asylum as possible.

Especially if I was an apostate / sibling of an apostate, son of an apostate.
Sigh.

I hope that we can have a set and well defined female protagonist in an RPG fantasy game one day.
In fact, why not have a DA spin off as Aveline, the first Orlesian female Chevalier?

But sadly, I don't think that will happen. Or if it will, they will make her look ridiculously sexy with ridiculous clothes, so as to destroy the entire point of Aveline supposedly being the first female warrior to be taken seriously.

I don't think they grasped the full scale of Kirkwall's issues at that point, personal emphasis lay with the uncle, after having lost their home and husband/father. Logical to me anyways.

Hawke says that Kirkwall is not where he'd want to be, because everyone knows that the Templars rule it with an iron fist.

Still not logical to not want to stick with your 'entire' family when they go anywhere, when you were just mangled and had to leave everything you knew behind. Mom was intent to find their (rather her, but still family) roots, to find some semblance of a home again after they just lost everythign they had. Dark waters or no, it's a noble goal.

Yet the Templars there are really apathetic:

Why doesn't he pass on the warning? Is he really that lazy?

Wasn't Hawke supposed to be the head of the family?
He / she should decide where they go.

If I was him, I would have avoided Kirkwall, settled somewhere (maybe Starkhaven) and then went off there to find out about the family heritage and if it could be retrieved, after making sure my family is safe elsewhere.

Really, rare are the games that can frustrate me this much.
If that was a noble goal, I'd call it a great achievement as I rarely get frustrated.

Again, the templars there don't really care either way about apostates.

Same here. It's like they were going for another "Dark ritual" choice, yet the writers just conviniently forgot about Meredith making Anders tranquil, thereby preventing his *END-GAME SPOILERS BELOW!!!*

bombing of the chantry.

We need to ask Project Red for Ciri game! I'd love to play her despite being male :)
The only drawback - there would be no sex scenes because all her would-be-lovers we interrupted, usually by their death.
