So let me see if I've got the gist  of the points you're making:

1) Having to think - BAD
2) Having to tactically time/position your spells -  BAD
3) Convoluted Questlines - BAD
4) RPG Genre - BAD

Yeah, no thanks.  I'm neither a kid, nor am I afflicted with ADD.    So I have no reason to play games designed to appeal to  ADD afflicted Kids.

WOW..........and I thought the rudeness and arrogance had reached its peak already. Sad that it had to invade this thread as well. When posters treat each other this way, no matter on which side of the fence, it's disgusting.

Let's add a positive note:

One thing I loved (yes, loved - with respect to DA2) was the ability have your companions act on your behalf. That's something that was missing from other RPGs that I've played, and it was great to see the interplay you could have between your PC and other NPCs.

Heh. So a seeker. aka SPECTRE from ME.

Ahh rumours and silliness.

Or a Warden from DA:O. Or a Jedi from KoTOR. Or a Spirit Monk from JE.

Bioware seems only to be able to write solid plots for secret warrior orders.

So maybe the next game a solidly written character from a secret warrior order? aka jedi or spectre? Instead of a poorly written champion?

I'm game for a Seeker Shaepard sailing the steamship SR1 Normandy.

Unless, of course, criticising a game makes one rude, in which case, I'm  so damn rude.  I admit it.  lol

Er......someone doesn't understand the difference between belittling a poster's opinion/using handicaps as insults and constructive "criticism". The above wasn't criticising the game, it was pure vitriol. At least stand by it and don't hide behind "criticism" and other much maligned words.

I loved those as well. Fenris dealing with Danig, Aveline getting the information out of the deserter guard, etc.

I also loved class specific actions, like rogue Hawke throwing the knife at the Tevinter slaver during the Wayward Son quest.

Ahh yes, you know that gave me good ME flashbacks.
You remember the part where you shoot and blow up a tank which kills several mercs and sends one flying past a salarian looking utterly stunned by what just happened =D

You slammed people with a disability. That's not cool. It's never alright to use an impairment as a pejorative.

I honestly had no problem with some of the changes, but they were executed so poorly.

- The game takes place over years, but the city or none of the surroundings ever change.  Nothing you did in Act 1 grew into anything in Act 3.

- You give me a family, but never developed it.  I can remember 1 quest that dealt with the family in the city where they cam from.  Your mom lives with you for almost two acts and you barely speak.

- I had a problem with how dead the city was before I played the Witcher 2, but it's even more glaring now.  Moreso, I went back and looked at Origins.  Even Ostegar had more life.  You had the man talking about killing darkspawn, the mages practicing, the woman preaching, the archers practicing, there were things going on around you.

- It was supposed to be a personal story but didn't feel like it.  It should have started in Lothering to introduce you to your family, develop it some, and connect the games for people who played the first.  Then in Kirkwall show how Hawke made his/her name doing small quests first, then being trusted with bigger ones.  As mentioned earlier, develop the family.

So if you're still reading this thread Mr. Laidlaw, I have no problem with change in general, but if you do it, you should take the time to do it well.  But it is good to see that you have read the and acknowledged the players concerns.

The enemy waves I hated though :P

I like to push people out of wheelchairs then proceed to beat them with said wheelchair.

I think it's something that could be expanded (and potentially include the friendship rivalry mechanic). You'd just need two responses for every button.

There are choices later - with Aveline in guardsmen related quests, and Anders if you bring him with Varric in Act 2.

all of these were definitely good things. Having Varric BS your way out of things was great.

Though at least 1 or 2 times it wouldn't feel right. During Varric's Family Matters quest I picked "What do you think Anders?" but all that Hawke did was stay silent as if he was telepathically communicating with both Varric and Anders.

Do you guys think we should see more class specific kills (I only know of the Rogue's slaver kill)? And class specific ways of using the murder knife?

I  once saw Stevie Wonder at the airport.  I waved to him.  Then smiled.

That's Chaotic evil  behavior right there.

I was available throughout Acts 1 and 2, but not in Act 3 (as far as I remember):

Varric bluffing the slavers during Wayward Son
Varric bluffing the templars during Act of Mercy
Merrill/Anders checking Keran for possession
Aveline getting information out of the corrupted guard
Merrill attempting to blow up the Rock Wraith
Bethany/Anders/Merrill breaking Idunna's charm spell
Fenris getting information out of Danzig
Fenris killing the magister's son at your behest
etc

Very much agreed. Because as of yet, we are being told that Hawke and family lost a life we never see. That loss is thus insignificant to me. In Origins on the otherhand, every Origin has us experience life before being a Warden, then falling to the lowest lows then becoming a Warden. It created drama and sense of loss, notwithstanding plot hammering in certain cases (mage origin).

In DA2, the game expects me to care about something they are telling me and not showing me and it's supposed to be the main premise of beginning of the game.

I thought some of those instances could have used that sort of subtlety. Saying "tell him why we're here, Varric" seems a bit... strange. Arrogant? Like ordering around Gorim as Dwarf Noble. (though in that case it's quite fitting) In that situation I think maybe a nod to Varric would have sufficed.

Clearly a mage should gather about 50 murder knives and and telekinesize a Macross Murderknife Massacre.
