Since the Engineer achievements were the only skill related ones I had left, and Ashely/Kaidan were the only squad mate achievements I had left, and I still need to do Insanity and Level 60, I decided to put it all together and go for the win. I'm having a lot of fun.

The Engineer's armor and weapons are weak, so it makes the the pressure in Insanity very worthwhile. You have to be creative and judicious with items, and also a little lucky. AI Hackiing is worth it at every opportunity, then Sabotage, and Kaidan's Stasis ability can be invaluable in a boss fight.

Here is a video I made today of the Krogan boss fight at the end of Liara's mission on Therum. Stasis helps out early so I can get a clear AI Hacking shot on the Geth Sniper, the biggest pain in the ass of the battle. It's worth it just to get it out of the way, but even more to have it on your side. Once the Geth are trashed, Neural Shock on the Krogan and then unleash everything you've got. Kaidan's Throw and Lift help out too. perhaps more than I'm willing to give credit.

So much of Insanity, it seems, will be to just remove an enemy's influence from battle temporarily while you can focus your firepower on a few of them at a time. The area around which that happens is a chess game. Lot's of fun! Expect more videos from me as I take my Engineer to Insanity level 60. :)

1) A low level Engineer is weak, a high level one is almost untouchable.

By the Vid you are starting out a low level Engineer on Insanity, which well starting out any low level character on insanity isn't usually classified as fun. Maybe since it is your first insanity it will be, but for me it is just a slog to play insanity because of the way they made it harder. Just wait until you get dual medi-exos on your armor and a really good Omni-tool and you will be spamming tech mines like they were mentos candy.

Have fun, and remember you will not get to level 60 on one run without glitching, so you will get to do it again.

Thanks. I didn't know that about level 60. Actually I didn't even realize you could start the game over at a higher level. That doesn't sound fun, though. :) My playthrough on Hardcore was really easy start to finish, I have to be honest. Maybe a little surprising at first given all the immunities enemies had, but, equally surprising how easy it turned out to be to overcome. Granted I was Solider class with heavy armor, immunity, et al, which I'm learning is basically the ME equivalent of typing "iddqd," but still. So far on Feros it's manageable and just hard enough to be exciting.

You know that Alpha Varren mission on Feros? None of them respond to the tech attacks, except for Neural Shock, and the Engineer is so vulnerable to their melee. I was like "holy shi---" they actually have teeth now!

Actually damping will probably affect them as well.  It has a short
(3 sec) stun.  The other powers will only do damage, no shields to
overload and no heat dependent weapons to sabotage.

Hmm, true. I ended up using them all anyway, since they do a little splash damage regardless.

Picked up a Nexus IV Omni-Tool on the Prothean Highway and, wow, did that elevate my Engineer. Here's another video of me getting out of the Mako to take on some Geth Juggerneuts, earning an achievement along the way. Engineer Shepard is Level 21.

Pretty wild, huh?

Just as a note to remember, if you are AI hacking enemies and they are the last one, they will still shoot at you unless you overload their weapons. The reason is AI hacking only scrambles targeting and doesn't completely take over like in ME2, so they will target anything that moves basically. And yeah I have died due to this, learning the ropes.

AI hacking and Dampening are both handy to have maxed out because not only do they do things directly, but they also improve the other powers increasing radius and reducing cooldowns(IIRC).

As soon as you start getting medi-exos put them in your suit to greatly reduce cooldowns. It takes two complete runs to get to 60 level, or three partial runs ie, main missions only say as in you want to max your charm/intimidate without putting any points into the skills and only use the free ones from maxing para/rene.

Small tip: Do the first batch of side missions which are not too tough (i.e. biotic terrorists and huskified scientists excluded). After your first main planet (I always do Therum first), you'll hit lvl 20 and you'll be able to do the Luna mission (which is a joke for any class). This will net you another couple of levels and you'll have only a short leap to lvl 30.

My experience with the ME1 Engineer is that your squadmates do your fighting till you hit 20, you are getting into gear till 30 and from then on it's a walk on the beach :)

Luna's not so much a joke on insanity,  Those rocket drones can eat you alive if you're not careful.  It's probably a bit easier for an engineer, but still no picnic

Aah, not when you cheat and exploit the drones' AI :) . They won't come into the first chamber. and instead will line up in the corridor and around the entrance of the second chamber (your squaddies will go down soon, but thats not a problem). So all you need to do is retreat back into the first chamber  and shoot them from around the corner. You'll find a spot where you can hit them and they won't (they'll hit the corner right before you). The only thing you have to be careful about is a rocket in the face (insta-death), but you get the hang of it after one or two reloads at the most.

I've had them come into the second room.  So it's not really a guarantee that they won't.  I've done that mission quite a lot.  Somewhere on the order of 30+ playthroughs.  That is the only place I ever had a high level soldier die (rocket stun lock)

What a coincidence. I saved my game on Luna just outside of the base, thinking I'll get to it next time I play.

In the mean time I started a new game from level 50 with my Infiltrator on Insanity to see what it's like. Pretty damned easy. Everyone's got X-level gear, though, for the most part. It's worth it mostly to see those earlier cut scenes with FemShep in Colossus armor and Spectre weapons.

How I yearn for AI Hacking. Nothing like making a killer robot into your biatch by getting it to kill other killer robots for you. Although I do miss medium armor on Engineer. It just looks better and more authoritative for a squad leader. Intimidate cut scenes actually look pretty intimidating.

Videos of Luna mission. Engineer Shepard is Level 28 with skill set shown at the start. It's a walk in the park until the second and third bases, but xelander was essentially right. If they follow your retreat into the first chamber, you can stop them in the corridor with damping and they will bottleneck. It's possible to take them all out on your own, which is what I end up doing, since I did not have Unity. Once my squad mates are dead, they stay dead, until I get to the Mako.

Second base
Final base

My Engineer likes to work alone. :)

Here she is accepting the Geth Activities mission. Jill's gonna hack her way through Geth like a machete.

You guys are right, though. The Engineer is pretty dominant from Level 30 onward. I won't bother you with more videos unless you ask for them.

From level 30 onward pretty much any class can be pretty dominant, it's just that the manner they go about it will vary. Once you have good gear and some skills developed, even insanity is more tedious than difficult.
