Taking the time to whip out a knife when someone gets close while you are toting a shotgun would be about the most stupid move you could pull.

I expect melee moves to be slight variations on the Shepbow to the face or some other move that can be performed without switching away from the current weapon. Unless we go back to the days of good ol' instant weapon switching like in QuakeWorld, which seems about as unlikely as it would be awesome.

So IF the knife gets pulled I imagine it'll be in a cutscene.

Maybe on her melee attack.

But I suspect her knife is more of a tool than a weapon, and that an electro-shock from an omni-tool would be more effective as a melee attack.

Imagine Tali sneaking behind a Krogan with a knife and a shotgun then jumping on his back and going APE**** with the knife and finally shooting him in the neck with the shotgun, and then her walking past with everyone staring and she says "what is there some thing on my suit."

I think I would settle for her just cutting a rope or something with her knife. Or her throwing it to cut a rope that's got some random prisoner strung up by his feet. Doesn't have to be a brutal killing...weirdos, lol.

I would assume utility, since quarians love that sort of thing, but I wouldn't mind seeing her use it for something a little more combat related. Blades at that modern age could probably be sharpened and hardened enough for it to be useful against synthetics like the geth in close quarters, or heck, even the cybernetic parts of a husk.

Never rule out the chance of a close-up fight in war.

I can see it. Tali toe-to-toe with a Geth. No time to reload the shotgun. Naturally, she's going to know just the right wire to cut.

There are plenty of other uses for a knife than stabbing someone. My guess is that she simply uses it as a tool.

If you're in close quarters combat, a knife is very practicle. Not so much against drones, but against mercs it'd be very potent since kinectic barriers don't block knifes.

If squadmates are going to have melee attacks it would be strange of them not to include Tali using the knife she's carried around for two games already.

Of course it could just be a quarian nail-file or something.

I hope see. ME3 promises better Melee, so I'm hoping to see her whip out the knife and cut a batarian's throat or something.
