Honestly, I doubt think the fanbase would be happy no matter what Bioware gave them as closure. There will always be someone who will complain that their warden wouldn't do anything like that and how it was out of character. Bioware could kill off the warden, but that would most likely also ****** off a number of people. Letting them vanish is probably the best course of action. As for the Warden reappearing in a new game with the option for recreating their face, I doubt the people who hate the elf redesign will be too happy.

I'd like to perform a little necromancy here, if I may.

I think they could use certain things in the game to confirm the actions of a Warden.

  • If you saved the Circle mages and didn't turn in the Mages' Collective at all possible chances (there were 2 or 3 quests I believe) then you're pro-mage

  • If you ended the curse either through Zathrian's methods or by getting Zathrian to end it, then you're pro-elf. If you slaughtered them, you're a massive douche to elves.
  • If you defiled the Ashes, you spit on Andrastianism. If you spared them, you spared them because whatever your feelings on the religion, it's not your place to destroy it. Doesn't mean you're an Andrastian, just that you respect the Ashes.
and other things along those lines.

I think that's a little too simplistic. It's pretty hard to capture the nuances of various possible motivations like that.

The first two choices could have been made out of pure pragmatism, a desire to find the simplest available solution and remain as neutral as possible. Or because you're anti-slaughter. Or for a bazillion other reasons. As for the third, you may have thought the Cult could be right - or simply wanted to
avoid another fight - or wanted to unlock the specialization - or been concerned that something with that much power could fall into the wrong hands.

There's no reason to assume further actions on the part of the HoF. Let us play them.

This may have been said before, it's a big thread, but I'm new to it and so I wanted to say my peace...

Actually, bad news: I got a thinly-veiled 'no' to the Warden from a message I shot to Laidlaw:

Mr. Laidlaw:

Your latest thread has me interested, especially your comment (in one of your subsequent posts) about the VOs being perpetuated in the series. That said, do we have a chance of seeing The Warden again? I didn't want to turn your 'Thank You' thread into a Q&A and throw it off-track, so I figured I'd drop you a line and hope for a reply.

I don't expect an outright yes or no, just something satiating to go on. With the addition of a voiced protagonist, I don't see how it's likely. But I'm holding out hope. Anything you can divulge? Ambiguous answers are fine. (:

Thanks!

Wish you luck on the rest of your projects.

I would suggest that it's unlikely, but not impossible. The core reason is that with the face system redesigned, there could be cosmetic differences, and while people might accept some minor changes in Alistair/Zev/Leli, I think that -any- deviation in the character you may have spent hours crafting does a disservice to that character.

So while it could be cool, I don't think we could pull it off as well as we would want to; and the voice thing is problematic.

This post isn't meant to spark animosity between the pro-Warden and pro-Hawke parties and turn the thread into another battle of attrition; nor was it meant to disparage Laidlaw in some catty, underhanded way. I just thought I'd share, as the information seemed relevant to the discussion. I'm a smidge disappointed by the news, but I expected this was the case. At the very least, we'll get closure for Hawke. The Warden, unfortunately, will likely vanish into nothingness like Revan.

The way to bring back both Hawke and the Warden is to have separate creators for them and four voices (Hawke's male/female and then a male/female for our Warden). So the player creates their new PC, then tells the game how their old PCs looked. It's not spoilerific because just telling the game what they looked like does not reveal what their involvement in the story could be.

It should be mentioned that both Hawke and the Warden are still in the world, even if we don't know where they are. I don't think closure would be all that difficult. You just need to come up with some dialogue on why they were gone and how it was they came back. A cameo would be nice, but I understand the technical details might be difficult.

It is not that they don't want to do a closure. The fact is they can't. I can understand the warden but not continuing with Hawke is just imcopetence.

Closure does not necessarily mean you need to visibly see The Warden or Champion again, simply that you know what exactly happened to them. Obviously the visual would be nice but it isn't necessary (I don't think) to achieve what the OP was looking for.

Could not disagree more.

Providing the closure for a character people have spent 50-100 hours shaping offscreen with some offhand comment or reference would be a massive disservice to both the character and the player.

Also BioWare, leaving threads open is lazy writing.  Please stop doing it.

This ^.

After spending literally hundreds of hours in multiple playthroughs of DA:O, many players have a huge investment in that Warden.  The idea that s/he would simply disappear while Thedas is falling apart is unthinkable.

The Warden I played would not have left her post in Amaranthine except to follow up on matters that she felt were more pressing.  I will be *massively* disappointed if she does not have a significant role in future developments - with or without Hawke.

It all depends on the Warden.  My Warden would be happy relaxing in his castle in Gwaren with all his treasures and riches watching Thedas fall into ruin around him.  This is the difficutty of having such varied Origins/choices as in DA:O.  Not everyone's Warden would do the same thing.
