I noticed a few people here were having the same issues as I was having when looking around for a fix for this issue and decided to post the way in which i was able to fix it for myself.

I had to recently reformat my version of Windows 7 Ultimate x64. But prior to that I was able to install and play DA:O UE just fine. So I sat down and asked myself... "What changed?" and went into looking. Apparently for me the issue (after spending hours of rebooting in the Microsoft Configuration Utility) was simply a matter of a conflicting program. that program was RadeonPro and it turned out after further tests that as long as it was merely RUNNING I would not be able to install.

I know most having this issue probably dont have RadeonPro so I will list what should be needed to install the game as normal. Just keep in mind that what I list should really only be attempted by someone who feels comftorble enough with messing around with Windows services!

1. Open the run dialog (Windows key + R) type in msconfig, and press enter. (or just msconfig in the start search bar if vista/win7).

2. Tell UAC to continue (if you have it on, I had mine disabled so I never got a popup but it should ask you if you want to continue.)

3. Click the "Services" tab

4. In the Services tab, check the box at the bottom that says "Hide all Microsoft services"

5. Click the button that says "Disable all". this will disable all non critical, non microsoft services running on your computer (this list will also be significantly shorter then it was originally)

6. Click "Apply" then "Ok"

7. It will prompt for reboot. click "Restart now".

8. Once it boots try to install Dragon Age, it should work fine. If it doesnt then unfortunately it is beyond the scope of my understanding and I apologize. if your feeling adventureus like I was, you can try to pinpoint the offending service. Otherwise just install the game and afterwards go back into msconfig, go to the Services tab, click "Enable all", and then "Apply" and "Ok" then reboot and all will be back to normal.

I hope this helps! :)

oh btw, i'm not responsible if this crashes your version of windows or if your computer does something crazy like blow up! :P also I havent tested yet if Dragon age will run after re-enabling everything, i'll update this post when I have! :)

ok so after re-enabling everything, including the program that caused my installer to not function, the game played fine for over an hour till it CTD on me but i hear that's an issue pertaining solely to the game being on a win 7 machine! :)
