Why is it not possible to export and use your character again and again. Thats in my opinon almost a must in such a game as this. There are some random drops (i think?), so therefore you would like to try it with same char as before.
And i mean its always funny to up the stakes and play it on hard with a better character, higer level and greater equip thru your next gameplay. That is propably the only thing i disliked about the game. This means the game only works to play through some times. Because the fact to start over again with a noble human warrior again just doesnt seem fun to me (and once again collect all codex entries). If expansion packs and smaller addons should work out, i believe thats someting they must add in the future.
Hell i truly enjoyed playing with a level 50 character in BG2, where you have all magics, and such, and to play it thru again but instead this time look for all the loot. Its a pity indeed.
Whats the point for example to collect all codex and store equipment in warden keep box. Unless it doesnt follow you thru next gameplay. HTat means.. Oooppss now i need to do it again :P

Well this is only my opinion, but what if what they say is true, that they are going to make addons 2 years forward, then that is necessary. Have to restart character each and every time a new addon comes out.. Damn, thats going to be a bore.

Codex entries should most definately be carried over to the next character you make as well.

Also if you unlock specializations once, then they should be unlocked thru all gameplays.. There should no longer be any need to buy those books and such.. (again). In MY opinion!

Would be a nice touch, but as there is a level 25 level-cap, there isn't much point.

Also, specialisations do stay unlocked - which personally I don't like.

You don't need to restart to play Addons. When you beat the game there is an Epilogue save created that allows you to do any extra content you didn't get to before the end of the game. Technically anything you do during this save is considered to have been done just before the...ending of the game, not actually after the ending.

Specialisations stay unlocked, so yes you can buy the ranger book and reload to get back the money. Taking characters over to other savegames is a copy/paste job with the toolset.

So, back to the original question, is there a way to import a character into a campaign, and not create one from scratch?

For a custom campaign, this bit of code will import a character from another saved game. I suppose it's possible just to add this to the single player campaign as well using the toolkit.

Check the 3rd parameter from StartCharGen.

case EVENT_TYPE_MODULE_START:
  {
            object oHero = GetHero();
            PreloadCharGen();
            StartCharGen(oHero,0,TRUE);    // Notice the default parameter int nImportEnabled = FALSE
            break;
  }

This looks great but I'm really not technically minded at all and have no real intresting in doing anything with the Dragon Age Tool Set other than setting it up so I can import my character into the main stroyline. Could you please give me a step by step guide of what I need to do after I've installed the Tool Set to implement Coronacht's code?

No, you're not the only one who cares. I think it's an awful, stupid feature that shouldn't ever be in an RPG.

Hey, you didn't say what kind of caring you were looking for.

husband is having difficulty importing characters. No import option appears. Had to create a new character and begin play. Book says you can import and that this should appear but hasn't.

You can import from the separate character creator program, which was released before the game itself. You can't run a character through the game twice. What book said you could?

Ok, call me dumb, but can someone give me a quick rundown on how to get Coronachts script working in the toolkit? I cant even get the Startchargen out of read only mode
