Ship.wreck...the bane of my ME1 existence are the Thresher Maws...do you have any tactics with them? Some of the nests have conveniently sized hills around them, where you can park up and their spit can't hit you, but they still stay where they are, so just Mako blast away until their dead...But there are two or three Threshers, where those hills just don't seem so available, have you found a tactical solution for them? I spend a lot of time dying with those ones...:(

They seem to surface randomly, so I just drive in random loops all over their nest, constantly moving, then hit em with the 105 when they surface, plus constant strafing with the coaxial mg while the 105 is reloading. I've only been killed once, when one surfaced right behind me and for some reason I was reversing, got a little to close and Thresher Smash! Otherwise this seems to work pretty well. But tactics are limited with the Threshers since nothing will kill them effectively except the Mako's 105. You have to use the thing, plus they won't surface unless you're on or very near the nest, so you can't really use surrounding moutains for cover for the most part. With the exception of those occassional convenient hills you just have to get in there and keep moving.

Like I said I drive around constantly in large random loops, then when it surfaces, usually somewhat near me I immediately drive away from it, while firing backwards at it, then when I get a safe distance I start to circle it for as long as it stays surfaced. But then they only stay surfaced for so long, so it becomes a matter of fitting as many 105 shots as possible in that interval with constant mg fire. Very much one of those "rinse and repeat" processes.

Although now that I think of it, I've always thought the power of my SpectreGear Sniper Riffle with HE IX rounds and 2 X Scram Rail IX was comparable to the Mako cannon (about half as powerful) So now I'm going to have to go big game hunter on one of those beasts! It's probably not gonna work out so well, but if and when I bring one down I'm going to be extremely dissapointed that there's not some huge reward and achievement for taking out a Thresher while foot mobile Posted Image

Thank you Ship.wreck...unfortunately I usually try too hard for close hits and stop too often...your way sounds like I could have abetter chance at living...^_^.

Yep, I have thought about getting out of the Mako and trying for one on foot...I think that would only be achievable where the hill side hits work...I haven't been quite game enough to try it yet though...:?....You give it a go and tell me how you fare...:D....Check the Achievement Board, would be cool if it's there.

AH...The Trash Maws...
They gave me fits at first. I have always had trouble with the Mako, and have yet to kill anything with it, even after 4 playthroughs. The Thrash Maws became easy. Done on foot without taking any damage and using a pistol. I just park the Mako out of range and go in on foot. Running side to side, the spit falls behind you.

I take out turrets with the Sniper Rifle, peeking out from cover. Thus doing the same with big Geth.

I even use the Mako as cover. If it is a long straightaway with nowhere to hide. It just sits there in a blaze, and is in need of a complete overhaul when the shooting stops. There was one report, in another forum, of a guy that had the Mako to flip in the air and land on him. (so he said) I have yet had that to happen, and the Mako was taking a pounding.

Wow! That must be incredibly time consuming! Try using the targeting view from the cannon, that helps alot with hitting the targets. The Mako is really fun to fight with...

For the bigger geth, YES. That is until you get the Sniper maxed out (shill/weapon/upgrades) The turrets take are not so bad, and the Thrash Maw is down in about 45 sec or less.

PS don't get me started on that Mako...

Yes, Yes ...I know... I DID read those....

My point is that I have no tactics for that stupid thing, except the Park-And-Run routine. If I get into a discussion about that, I will just go off onto a wild tangent.

Smell what I'm stepin' in?

On second thought... you have been playing too much xbox lately havent you? Yeah, you could probably use a little time off from video games...

Hmmm... but what to do with  that darn xbox? Don't want it taking up space during your video game break... if only someone were willing to take it off your hands for a while... WAIT! I have an idea! Posted Image

Hahahhaha! Seriously though, I'm trying to slowly filter this realization through my concsiousness for absorptions so I'm not permanently traumatized from the shock of taking it all in at once:

I have almost certainly lost ALL of my ME saves!!!!!!! Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

And that still doesn't quite describe it. I'll never be able to make the exact same Shepard again Posted Image

I never use the Mako, unless the environment is hazardous.....Long distance sniping is too much fun to waste inside the Mako....though that said, I also do enjoy long distance hits with the Mako too......I would believe that about the Mako flipping....I could see it doing that easily enough.

@ Golden Owl : The TM's...Oh hell and yea...On any diff setting...The trick is to move or circle, while in the distance window. If you get too far out the TM can dive and pop up under you. If you get too close the melee head butt will kill ya...

EDIT: Kind of like a Krogan charging, you don't want that.

...Oh Dear...

I had been figuring the TM's can be taken on foot since Grunt's LM in ME2...but at least in his LM, there is some cover, lame excuses fo cover yes, but stll cover...Even Zaeed thinks the whole TM on foot thing is madness....

But will follow your advice to a 'T'....would be damned proud of myself if I manage...:o

Theres another way to deal with Thresher Maws in ME:1 you know.  In the Thresher Maw Nests there are always half a dozen raised bits, sort of like mini hills, you'll spot them straight away, trust me.  Well, as soon as you hit a nest head straight for the nearest one.  Thresher Maws cannot come up from underneath you when you are on them.  Now you get to have some fun.  Shoot with your Main gun and your machine gun and whenever the TM spits, jump!  You'll quickly get into a rythm.  If you want to get extra XP then when you've shot it down to a tiny sliver of heath then get out and finish it off on foot.

For the TM in grunt's LM, I always try to max out my Hvy Wep ammo for the CANE BABY!!! My fav HW by far... I had a lot of probs with the core at David, in the ME2 DLC, until I brought in CANE BABY!!! That thing took out the core in one shot, on insanity, and I never left the elevator platform...

EDIT: I should note that maxed out means 200%, as the TM takes 2 shots..

EDIT2: I would also add that I was just stating a common coment, and anybody can post " Hey, I killed that baddie with this weapon..." This thread should prob be best know to list tactics that are creative and unusual. So...sorry for the dead post.

Yep, Cain's my baby on Hardcore and Insanity...:D...on veteran, my usual setting in CQC situations, I just use the Widow...I really, really, REALLY suck with CQC and I don't think thats so much a tactics issue, quite sure it's just me...:(....I get swarmed, I get dead....:(...I still find it remarkable I actually managed to complete an Insanity run, considering the husks and varren.

I haven't tried Cain on Overlord...will do...I usually use the Arc Projector there, the bonus being for a longer bring down time, I don't have to deal with the wayward Geth in that room, as the Arc Projector zaps them too, while I'm hitting the core...:)...
