We've all heard the rumours about how hawke single-handedly beat back the qunari invasion-
So the challenge is to put some truth into that statement!

This challenge is probably more suited to all the warriors out there, but feel free to try it with any hawke build if you dare.

The concept is simple:
- Using only hawke, solo the qunari invasion.
- This includes all fights, including the looters and the fight to reach the viscout's keep.
- At the end you can choose to either duel the arishok or kill the lot of them.
- Also, if possible, record your runs and upload them here so we can all marvel at your hawke's prowess

This challenge is aimed at all those other nightmare players who haven't yet discovered the joys of soloing. However, if you haven't quite reached that stage of masochism, other difficulties shouldn't detract too much from the fun.

As an added challenge:
- Treat the exercise as a speed run with no item pickups along the way.
- No-pause play as much as possible.
- No saves and no reloading from auto-saves, i.e. it's one continuous run all the way to the top.

Arishok Speed Challenge
This is simply the speed challenge for the fastest arishok duel (for a class).
This should hopefully be both informative for those struggling with it/resorting to kiting and also a fun exercise to do. Once again, this is probably more suited for warriors/rogues (sorry mages, you just aren't built for soloing!)

Basically we're looking for videos of the fastest methods you've uncovered for a class/build. Please also include the
- The difficulty level
- Your hawke level
- Summary of your build; attribute allocation and ability section shown in vid/listed
- And maybe a quick explanation of your strategy

you should broaden the thread a little bit, that would be better if you really wanted to do this, as opposed to just something that can be facerolled because of that axe

It's not the axe that makes it easy. It's desdemona's, which makes it viable for anyone with the black emporium. I'm not too sure how to broaden it.

I suppose a party could still do it but that would make it the same as usual and not a 'challenge'.
I would think that a well-built rogue could do pretty well with the dlc daggers (nature), though single-target dps would somewhat suck.
A mage would probably be the toughest and heaps of kiting would probably be involved = not very fun.

That is why I said it's mainly for the elemental warriors out there (there's quite a few from what I can determine). Not sure if they are past act 2 though.

But if you can think of some changes that would make it easier for other classes/builds tell me, I'll be happy to consider it.

edit: sorry, was a little slow to see your edit. Yep, i'll add a S&S to the recommended 'target participant'.
btw, camera batteries ran out so probably won't see my video anytime soon (i'm not going to upload a 10+minute video unless it's worth it). FML.


heh, I know! for those who aren't a warrior feel free to take along Aveline, the true hero of Kirkwall!

Having hawke along could make up for the lack of reaver/crazy damage potential that a S&S Hawke has.
This has the advantage of making sense story-wise (as Aveline is there already and probably isn't too pleased with the qunari killing all her guards) as well as allowing a non-S&S hawke to experience some of the joys of watching qunari explode.

However, this kinda defeats the purpose of hawke single-handedly defeating the qunari, but hey, maybe it'll inspire people to do a S&S playthrough next!

what do you say we reinstate the deal we had at the deep roads dragon, except add it to every post as well?

i'm willing to bet i can beat whatever time you have by at least a minute, if not more.

Umm.. unoptimised and including snippets of cutscenes i'd say around 12 minutes?
I'm hoping for a better time for the next run.

And i'm not going to sign 'the worst player' on every post!!! hahaha
Maybe I'll consider having it in my signature....actually, no. You'll probably just keep doing it until you beat me! I'm not going to agree to that!! haha

Just try it yourself if you have a warrior to respec handy. It's surprisingly fun (I thought I was just been stupid when I first tried it - but it actually gets pretty good, you can clear things at similar speeds to a normal run if you do it right. I'm thinking this is to do with been able to concentrate more on hawke and not on protecting your companions- i.e. staying at ridiculously low health without as much risk of dying).

Once the patch officially releases I'll see about doing one of these from my home PC (it's a lot manlier so the game can look nicer while I run FRAPs)


edit: yes, I was kidding. I am not at liberty to show any works in progress in any stage so it will be done using a retail version with the public patch

Hmm.. just as a quick example of what I'm talking about I'll quickly whip up one of my runs through the first lowtown section.

edit: I sorta figured that. Decided to play along. haha
aaand....my video's have massive overexposure issues. I'm making it all arty-farty to cover it up. now to choose a song...

haha not fair, I did my audio out of sync so I have to re-process it..
I've decided ive given my batteries long enough. Time to kick some qunari but (and get a time that puts Arelex's to shame )

Yes, Sword and Shield, often abbreviated as SnS, WnS (Weapon and Shield), and SnB (Sword and Board).

@Jack-Nader, Haha I'll get to that later.. this is far more exciting.


btw, for those interested: the hardest fight would actually be the fight with those bloody carta dwarves. There's two assassins there and two backstabs is enough to kill me (so I would recommend chugging down a potion after the first/using a dog).
The arishok is easy in comparison (did the battle/not duel in ~1minute last time). Just got owned by them and cbf doing a continous run this time...haha

Anyhow, I'm not sure if I can be bothered uploading that first video I made. It's pretty terrible.
I'll just go and do a perfect run now and upload that instead

No.. Xebonkeck is going to be put in my compilation video when I get around to completing it. I do wanna try beating 34 seconds tho. Anyway, you've seen my other xebonkeck videos so you should atleast have a pretty good idea how its done.

Doing it is easy enough with a warrior. The issue is killing them fast enough. I may try it again but I'm not sure how to get that walking bomb to work properly (idea been to walking bomb xebenkeck just before she dies such that she explodes and kills all the rage demons surrounding her).

Anyway, I've officially beaten Arelex's 38seconds. I've got 37seconds.
Usually I'd be content to just leave it as that to rub it in his face but I think I can go even faster so I'll go change my party and try again

dude, I did a semi-allnighter trying to beat 37sec, and even with a new and improved suicidal method I somehow only got 40seconds (or 38secs if you count first damage, not first status)
note: a majority of the night was spent trying to get decent gear....i'm ridiculously unlucky when it comes to these sort of things.


I am officially sick of this fight, so i think i'll just upload it and leave Jack-Nader to crush the rest of your hopes and dreams (of been the fastest). haha

I'm going to go back to this qunari challenge - it's a lot more fun than picking over each millisecond in a fight which isn't even that hard. (I haven't really heard anyone need help/complain about it anyway.)

In other news, I've just completed this challenge with a 2H-non elemental warrior.
I'll upload those as another video demonstration.

I'm thinking that I might save part 3 of my elemental S&S for later- I'm trying to speed run the arishok (figure out the fastest way to duel him/battle him) so I think I'll wait till I get that sorted and recorded.

But yes, from the run I just did I think this challenge is open to all warrior types - though rogues and mages will probably still find it very tough.
imo, the non-elemental 2H was just as effective if not more due to its ridiculously large aoe damage. This means it has a larger aoe CC effect through the force effects it triggers (which is vital when soloing).
I'll have videos showing you what I mean up soon!
