Either way, sounds like a long way to go to explain every LI being bisexual, which they don't seem to be doing, anyway.

. . .

I need to pay attention more because I was just trying to explain why there might be more gay or bi people in the ME timeline...

I just want to say, I would gladly have m/m romances in ME3. ManShep and Kaidan would be incredibly hot. Kaidan got pretty good-looking, if the ME3 screens are any indication.

Shouldn't it be "Put your anus here so I can bro-fist you through the internet"?

you just described how every s/s thread look like

Oh no I got some rivalry points for saying no to Anders! I'd better delete my entire savegame as it is now useless!

And it was so hard to keep track of the rivalry points I had with my squad in ME2 OH WAIT.

Yeah, I could go ON and ON about how difficult it was to be friends with Anders after he totally blew up over our little disagreement. We could never be cordial or friendly towards each other for the entire game, I mean he would b!tch at me and I'd be all "don't be like that" and he'd just throw a hissy fit and slap me with his purse.

Neutral dialogue, easy let down, have it with the "new squaddies" as to retain original squad personalities, profitttttt?

in short who cares, but lets try to avoid a DA2 implementation again.

This.

I'm really sick of people describing those poor dialogue options with Anders as a s/s issue.  It was annoying to everyone that didn't want to romance Anders and wanted to stay friendly.      It was also offputting to have femshep talk to Jacob in that voice and unfortunate that a lot of the romance options in ME2 had hardly any dialogue if you didn't want to romance them.   I hope all of these things are fixed in ME3, and I don't see any reason why the inclusion of a m/m option should influence this in the slightest.

This same sex romances is getting a bit ridiculous... From a realistic stance, the chance of one of of ur squad mates being gay, is so remote it is a joke, unless of couse gay is the new straight. See my problem with the hole same sex thing is, it's great that it's in, not that I'll use it, but what has it added to the game? There isn't a large enough gay population to warrant the cost of adding it in for the appeal factor, so I can't see a reason for it to be added. All your going to get from this is some cheap romance options(not that the normal LI's will be much better) that pre-pubescent children will search the Internet for to laugh at... But again I have no quarrels about it's addition, just can't see a reason that justifies the time taken away from other projects with in the game for this addition. If someone could point out why it makes such a great addition to anyone but themselves I'll support it, though at the moment I'm really looking for the no gay option at start screen lolz

It isn't about appeasing homosexuals, it's about appeasing fanboys who want to see girl on girl action and fangirls who want their version of brokeback mountain.

Bioware may accept people's right to abortion, doesn't mean it has to be placed in to the game to show biowares support for the matter. Although its a fairly poor analogy due to the lack of reasons for it to be put in the game, it's all the same in that just because it's not in the game doesn't mean u don't accept it. I personally don't care if you decide to be gay, but doesn't mean it should be put in a game for no other reason than acceptance

It's fanservice aimed at a very specific demographic. Like the Tali-mancers. It adds nothing to the game for those who do not wish to partake in the content. But that's pretty much what a role-playing game is all about. There will always be options many will never consider, but does that mean they're better off not existing?

Besides that, you don't now how sizeable the demand is for this content. Bioware has the numbers and you do not, so by including this it's perfectly reasonable to conclude that they figured the demand was large enough.

How many times have you seen this in a game? It's a step forward, just like the first time a gay character got a romance arc in a tv series or a film that didn't end in one or both of them dying, catching some horrible disease or it otherwise ending horribly.

Really?

Totally not because some of us genuinely just want a few crumbs from the banquet.

@backlash93, what figures would u be referring to? I'm not sure it's possible to determine the demand for a same sex romance especially considering the large majority of the people that play mass effect are not on forums.

And AshiraShepard, I get it's a step forward, but it still isn't adding anything to the game. Even if every single game that involves romances decide to include same sex romance did so, there would be no change, people aren't going to change their opinions of gay people just cause games have them in it. It will take education and even then the gay population is never likely to exceed the point that it becomes so populace to influence a game. But there is one thing I can assure, there will be a lot of YouTube clips on this.... yay.

Recent studies have put the percentage of people who identify themselves as homosexual at around 5% (in North America), whereas roughly 20% of the population consider themselves "straight", but have had homosexual thoughts and urges.

Now consider that there are currently 17 possible squad mates. Remove the Asari (who have no set sexualityand we're down to 14. Remove Legion, and we are down to 13. So if you consider that 1 in 20 people are gay, while 1 in 5 people admit to having homosexual inclinations of one sort or another, it *really* isn't as remote a chance as you indicate.

Indeed.

I don't know about you but I personally wouldn't risk a fatal allergic reaction for nookie. Especially not with someone who maybe a jerk.

Getting back to the original point of this thread:

Mass Effect doesn't have a friendship/rivalry system, and it's always been possible to reject romantic advances without gaining paragon/renegade points.

So, chances are you'll be able to politely rebuff any advances. Just like we've been doing for two games now.

I'm not quite sure how one could look another person in the eye and tell them "you're not worth the same treatment" just because they're not as vocal or numerous...

Bioware basically tracks everything you do in their games. They disclosed some of those statistics a while ago. They can track who romanced whom. Who didn't romance anyone. Who used which classes and gender. Who participates in s/s romances in DA and also plays ME. That sort of stuff.

And like I said, the content adds nothing to those who want nothing to do with it. But that's the nature of fanservice. I'm sure you'll find something in ME3 you really like that not many others will seem to care for.

If they don't want to do the Same sex romances, its their loss in my mind. I will be doing the S/S romances for the same reason I play a female shep... Because its content in the game I havn't experienced yet after my first playthrough.

Saying S/S adds nothing to the game is exactly the same as saying adding the ability to play as a fem shep adds nothing to the game. The only reason it isn't adding anything, is because you refuse to experience it.
