Digital content also looks great as long as you aren't being billed by your internet provider by how much you download. Once "billing by the byte" goes live, digital content looks a lot less appealing. Comcast and Verizon have already stated they are going to this model, as they can make more money off it. When you stream a HD movie over their network, they want to get paid for it, and the consumer is the one who will end up paying for it. Wipe your PC and need to re-download 50GB of games? Enjoy the bill that month. DA:O is a full 8GB DVD all by itself, and games are only getting bigger.
Personally I prefer having something tangible in my hand as proof I bought it rather than relying on something like Steam to tell me what I own and if I'm allowed to play.
As for the DLC, we're still looking at "holiday season" on the DLC page.

As for DLC, I'm concerned with what B33ker said:

I totally agree. At the moment I pay a flat rate with Virgin Media a month, buy nice shiny boxed games, occassionaly lose the discs...(i.e WoW) end up having to download the games (i.e. WoW) no, I really would not be into coughing up more cash. However...DLC? With Fall Out 3 I downloaded one expansion and still ended up buying it when it came out on disc just so I could have the others and more shiny cases to fill up my gaming shelves.
I do wonder if at some point there will be an eventual release of DLC goodies on disc and if it is worth just waiting for that so I can have something else to dust on occasion...
Someone mentioned the side quests in KOTOR and BG. Yup. They were excellent. As much as I love this game, my only niggle is that the side quests are a little uninspired, I really did kind of want too have a troop of Nugs on leashes follow me around before I turned them in...

How can you wish they would only use Steam?
I would never buy another game from them ever again if they used Steam. Steam is horrible.
Never had any issues with Steam, it just works for me.
Steamworks, Self updating, cheap games, 3rd party games can be a bit of hit and miss but Valve content shows you how to do digital content this day and age.
not totaly true bro. Cheap is a matter of opinion their bundles are super nice. Its much more updated than D2D for sure, but Impulse is my favorite for singleplayer games. Much less demanding of memory, usable games offline, and you do not need to own a Stardock game to use all the features within the framework (I have to buy a valve game just to talk to my friends even if we play a non-valve game). Overall however it is useable.

Most people I know go on holiday in August. In which case it's *really* late!TastyLaksa wrote...

Keeping with the Bethesda example look at the Horse Armour plugin for Oblivion and Operation Anchorage/Point look out DLCs for Fallout 3. All utter crap wastes of money.
Um. Point Lookout was freaking AWESOME.
I'll agree with you on the Horse Armor and Operation Anchorage though. Oblivion's mod community is pretty awesome. I haven't found a single Fallout 3 fan mod that I've liked or kept, though.
The NWN Modding community was/and is one of the best. They created Complete series based on or follow on's from the main OC along with complete quest lists added into the main OC with towns and the like.
Alot of it you cant tell if they are Biowares or modders.
Alot of the Oblivion Modders are or were NWN modders.
On The DLC side, I was hoping for a nice xmas pressy of the DLC but

They have yet to say which holiday season. Everyone is assuming they meant the Christmas/New Years season. For all we know they may mean Memorial Day/Independance Day....
Seeing as it says "this Holiday season" it would seem that some time between Christmas & New Years would be the reasonable time frame.
