I bought the game, and didn't register it in time, now I can't use multiplayer online, and it says the CD key is no longer good.
I bought this game through steam, with everything expansion wise.
how screwed am I?

Where would you "register" the game?
If you bought through Steam, you were given a unique set of product keys.
If you can describe the error message more completely, and what you're trying to do when you get it, perhaps we can throw some suggestions your way.

when I first created my multiplayer account it told me it has sent me an email to my account, that that my CD key "will expire in 10 days", in a popup that appeared every time I enter the account and password. I was doing exams, and I missed the 10 day window, and now I'm entirely locked out of the multiplayer.
