Does it provide customization for the conversation UI?
What does the "XML override" field in the conversation properties tab do?

Yes. SoZ adds new UI's for the conversation windows. This was used extensively on the overland map. You can add your own UI as well and override the system with that field.

It probably would allow you to do all sorts of crazy things people haven't quite experimented with. I use it just for modded conversation UIs which, as Mokah says, was added in SOZ. I suppose one could probably use a conversation as a base and have moving sliders, etc, while keeping the base system in place. I guess I'm unsure whether or not that would be better than using a 'normal' custom UI system, but I suppose that's for considering some other time.

I wondered if you couldn't use a "conversation" UI to catch number button presses. Lute Hero uses a conversation to do just this, but with a custom UI you could prevent the conversation window from showing up.
