I'm having a tough time figuring out what "niche" the 1-handed Axes fill.
From the ones I've found so far, they offer a .1 additional strength modifier but slower attack, lower critical chance, and lower base damage than the Swords of the same Tier. I currently do more of everything with a Tier 2 Sword than I can with a Tier 5 Axe.
Maces at least, I'm just assuming here, do more damage than Swords against Dragons (lolwut), Golems, and Massively-Armored foes. Against everything else, a Sword is superior.
What good are the 1-handed Axes? Has anyone crunched the numbers and figured out just what ungodly level of strength you'd need to make the increased Strength Modifier worth something (as in out-damage Swords by a large margin)?
Along those lines, are there any mods that try to re-balance melee weapons?
Anyone Crunch the Numbers on Axes?

At the moment the number crunching shows the best MH weapon for a Rogue is the 1H Axe you buy from the Camp Vendor: all backstabs use the MH ONLY so paired with a dagger the Axe hits hard and fast while backstabbing (since attack speed is averaged the Dagger serves to increase the speed of the axe).

Gameplay section gave me a similar answer, thanks.
Seems kind of disappointing though, that there is never a time the Axe would work better for a Warrior. My Dwarven Shield Master is seriously lacking in style.
Would be kind of nice if the Strength Modifier was a lot higher, or at least the critical chance wasn't so low.
