It probably was a normal explosion but since it was a chantry maybe there was some lyrium in the building making the explosion look like it did

Exactly! It's also the ancient residence of a Magister Lord. Who knows what's burried in the basement?

Nope. I cannot shoot an abomination in the face in ME. Husks =/= abominations.

Shooting a husk in the face with anything is stupidity. Makes more sense to use singularity. It's a one hit kill, doesn't waste bullets and stops them dead in their tracks.

And makes more sense (if one isn't an adept) to shoot a husks legs.

Well, you haven't been hanging out much in the Vanguard club, have you. :-)

Nope. Vanguards have something better than an instant kill for all husks that are caught in it's area? With a decently low cooldown?

Besides husks =/= abominations. They're a lot smaller and make that horrible wail.

And Shepard lacks Hawke's ninja skills. I want to blast a abomination in the face then backstab it.

Same generic undead/dehumanized melee type mooks. Both look yucky and ugly. Abominations don't blow their noses as loudly, but still. Six of one.

Abominations aren't undead. They have different lore surronding them, husks are FAR more dangerous (and creepy) and husks are alot smaller and faster.

The are not the same type of mook. That's like saying bandits in DA are equal to mercs in ME. They aren't.

Adepts have that too though. Along with throw and pull. *shudders* I will NEVER use pull on Husks again. stupid icky husk bits all over the place.

They aren't?! I thought the Blue Suns is a revival of the 800 year-old tradition that started with the Raiders?

Anders made up a story about being able to make a special potion to separate Justice from him.  So why are you folks crediting him with telling the truth about 'researching Tevinter scrolls,' which was part of that story?

(Well, he did say that the process was simple, "Boom! and we get to live our own lives..." in one dialogue branch.)

We know that the Qunari have gunpowder of some sort -- they used it in the fight with Isabella's ship.  The most logical answer is that Anders stole (or sneakily made a copy of) the Qunari recipe and used it to blow up the Chantry.  I suspect that there was a convenient sewer access hatch very close to where the Qunari were guarding the recipe.

As for how Anders set it off remotely, by banging the heel of his staff on the ground - well, magic explains that, just as magic is how mages can throw pyrokinetics from their fingertips (flesh) witout being burned and large statues with no discernable joints can be made to move.  Some things you can't explain; just take them on faith.

Sadly no. Unless Zaeed was around during Thedas times.

I don't really think it matters since it will be regarded as magic since it was the work of a mage with full intent to destroy. It will soon be echoed throughout the land that it was the evil doing of magic since the mage who did it was possessed with a spirit. Which is what the Templars and Chantry will bring to attention.

I think it would be an important difference if Anders's bomb is actually NOT Magical. It shows that non-Magical weapons can be just as, if not more destructive than Magic, and that it is utter BS to lock Mages up because they are 'dangerous'.

It's kind of like the Anders-Fenris banter that ends with "So we agree that it doesn't take a demon for someone to be a vicious killer?" but on a much bigger scale and with much greater impact.

But if it could be simple to procure as Anders did, it leaves me to suspect those like the Qunari or Dwarves keep it a locked secret because they know just how powerful it is to be in the common man's hand.

Or perhaps, the Chantry knows of it's formula and power yet they regard it as an evil compound.

Either way, if it introduces the possibility of cannons, handguns, etc. It would mean that bows will not only have the option of poisons and grenades but real explosives for their arrows! And that I like!

It's not just that. One of the versions of the Act 3 Anders codex says he's been spending the last 3 years reading ancient Tevinter texts.

The best lies have a portion of truths in them.

Very likely. Isabela can escape from custody AND steal the Tome of Koslun if you give her to the Qunari. Anders is an experienced fugitive and a powerful Mage. He elluded the Templars for so long- it may be a relatively small challenge for him to steal from the Qunari.

We are not certain that he set it off with his staff, or even that he set it off remotely. It may simply be that the reaction takes some time to kick in and he set it off and then slipped out of the Chantry into the Gallows.

No, but I'm pretty sure that his great-great-great-great-...-great grandpa was a Raider Assassin.

I don't know of any nonmagical explosive that can put on that kind of lightshow tearing a sturdy stone structure apart (not just exploding it, disassembling it) and making it levitate in midair.

It may be that dragons have magical ****, so while it doesn't take magic to set the explosive off, the explosion has innately magical properties.

Drakestone is actually dragon excrement? I didn't know that! Given how Dragons live and breath, it makes a lot of sense for it to be highly explosive.

Actually, maybe not. Don't know why I had that idea. Guess because it had the word "drake" in it, hah. Though there are lots of dragons nearby...

You mind explaining the beams of light and the bits of the Chantry gathering up in a giant bundle in midair for a few seconds and the lights where the chantry used to be without using magic as an explanation?

He sure looks it.  Does he know there's a state of the art dermal... thingie in the med bay? I'd sure like to not have to stop off at the bar in Kasumi's room to get plowed enough to look at him for 2 seconds before fighting. You know how hard it is to dodge a krogan when you're seeing 3 of everything?

To the original question: if it wasn't, I'd sure like to know how it made the stuff float a hundred foot in the air for 5 seconds before shooting the wreckage so fast I thought he built an electromagnetic launcher.

I think it is quite possible the the writers meant for us to believe that Anders started with gunpowder and used magic to enhance it.  But, everything in DA2 explodes on impact in unrealistic ways - so it's equally possible that Anders used a remote timer to set off a huge keg of gunpowder and the graphics guys just went wild to give the player a pretty light show.

LMAO

That shouldn't have made me laugh as hard as it did.
