I have a few players who crash when entering any of these tilesets. It's only like 15-20% of the total number of players who have issues. Most people can load it just fine. For the others, the game crashes for them entirely, I believe. Anyone heard of this before?

have them set their vid quality levels lower.

Turn off shiny water
Turn off animated textures
Turn off environment mapping on creatures
turn off Visual effects high.

Basically, set it as low as possible, then slowly, one item at a time, re-enable each of those features. I mean, re-enable one, test it by loading the area, if it works, re-enable the next one etc.

Most likely though, you will have to send them to the technical-self-help forums here, and have them research their vid card and drivers, and/or operating systems. Most likely vid card related though.

Several of Worm's tilesets are high poly sets, increasing the workload on the player's pc. It may also be the fact that most of the tiles in his sets are not compiled, which increases the workload on the vid card, and ATI graphics cards hate working hard. If the tiles are not compiled, the graphics card has to perform the math to compile them. Nvidia typically handles these things better, but even with NVidia, the specific driver version can cause issues

The only other possible issue would be area size, and/or number of placeables in the given area.

Thanks, sending em over here. It probably is video card related, I should have remembered that!

OR they are running completely different version of said tileset or their download if the hak is corrupt (it will still 'work' but it will cause issues as you described)

double-triple check that the size of the haks are the same exact size as the one that your server hosts.
I had many many issues with this kind of crashing specifcally with people using old versions of FantasyInteriors and Mirkwood sets since the hak name didnt change alot of peeps thought they had the hak already (but the one I had on my server was updated with alot of changes that screwed up their end when accessing areas built using updated material)

or it could be a vid problem although I have played my tilesets on old crummy laptops (a little slow/choppy in camera moving yes, but never crashed)

<peeks in...>

Works fine so here; very old, beat-up thinkpad R40...

But my haks are all fresh out of the pipeline ;-/

Biggest cause of tileset or area related crashes I've seen is shiny water. For some reason it was a big problem with users of LR's tilesets, and not one of his tilesets even uses shiny water.

So do your video card (and your eyes) a favour and turn it off!

<looking pious...>

Ah, that's what I'm doing right ;-) I only turn up graphics for screenshots :-P For me, play is the thing, not the bells & whistles... like I have a choice :-( <sigh>

<...as he steals the shiny stuff>
