The Protheans fathered humans, Mars was one of their last outposts and THEY were the ones who encased Charon in ice (somehow... heh) to protect their work because, unlike Ilos, the experiments on Earth weren't as well-guarded from the public. Which is why there are human-like statues on Ilos; they used the facilities there to conduct more rigorous experiments on the early humans. The statues are an expression of the Protheans' "engineering" of human DNA, to create an "ascended" life form.

Neanderthals also allegedly died out around 50,000 to 30,000 years ago, give or take a few thousand years. This was a result of the Protheans introducing a genetically superior member of the ****** genus, literally for the purpose of identifying genes that would make a species "dominant" over another (in their twisted search for genetic perfection, whatever their motives). What we know as "******-sapien" is merely a modified version of a naturally-evolved subspecies. Thus, humanity is more or less a surrogate species, and in ME3 we will come to terms with that.

Yes. Bioware is playing the "question of our parentage".

That's cringe worthy. Makes "TIM is your father" seem like writing genius.

I think that's the point of these "theories".

Oh, and Harbringer is Shepard's mother.

Made me start imagining H appearing in TIM's office, and TIM spinning up from his chair, dimming the lights, and laying on the moves. Hmmmmm... Image IPB

A Macguffin or Chekov's gun is far more likely IMHO.

"Chekhov's gun is a literary technique whereby an element is introduced early in the story, but its significance does not become clear until later in the narrative. The concept is named after Russian playwright Anton Chekhov, who mentioned several variants of the concept in letters."

Shepard actually died on Eden Prime. The entire time you've been playing as Jenkins, who has been brainwashed to believe that he is Shepard, along with a serious dose of cosmetic surgery (*very* serious if you're a FemShep).

But wait! After Cerberus finds out, they send a team to retrieve Shepard's body from Eden Prime, and Lazarus that sucker up.

Now there are two Shepards out there. Which one are you? What's going on? Whose side are you on? Why did Morrigan take your baby?

There is no massive twist in Mass effect 3, all the information has been given about the game, which is rather sad. Years ago, games and movies gave the tiniest bit of information, but now movie and game trailers reveal the whole game, and even some of the ending.

You want a twist, here's a twist, the Reapers **** on Earth, oh wait that happens. You recruit the old team, oh that happens to. You go back to Earth and save it, oh that happens too. hmmm what's left??

Oh, Liara is pregnant, and I/Shep contracted gonorrhea. *Mental Thought* (I knew I should have put it in her mouth instead, oh well.)

Shepard wakes up. It was all a dream.

This isn't so far-fetched, HEAR ME OUT,............however, only from a PHEW!! factor, does Shep awaken to find it was only a dream, just as the 'klaxon' starts wailing, signalling it is time to go to work.(FOR REAL)

I have a very strong suspicion that any major twist will revolve around Dark Energy, which would probably be considered a instance of Chekov's Gun seeing how many little mentions it got in ME2.

No Shepard, you are the reapers. And then Shepard was a husk.

Can enyone remember that planet in ME1, were it told us about a crazy volus billionare who "had visions of beings of light, who told him to look for a way to stop ancient machine deveils" on said planet? Thats the twist right there, these "beings of light" or whatever will show up. I'm expecting them to use this build up of dark energy through out the galaxy as portals of some kind? Maybe they'll be like the hologram on ilos?

**** knows, but i remember that planet and thought i'd share it with you all.

EDIT: I dont think that will be the twist by the way, but it will feature.        Somewhere

I all ready know the twist. The Reapers are from the future. They are actually Geth (who have "evolved") from the future who has traveled back in time and enslaved more people. So the Quarians are the ones who actually created the reapers.

You defeat them by using Legion to program a virus who changes them to become servants of humanity (renegade) or servants of the council (paragon). If you [SPOILER, HIGHLIGHT TO SEE] sold Legion to Cerebrus Tali does it instead but fails and we all die.

I bet $5 that this is close to the story.

The trinket and the globe on Eletania. The Orb reveals a story similar to "Sentinel" by Arthur C. Clarke, which in turn led to 2001 A Space Odyssey. Makes me wonder...

Piqued my interest so I googled it. The planet is Klencory. I would love to see this along with the Leviathan of Dis on Jartar and the Jupiter Brain on Ploba explored. It could add a billion years of very sketchy background history to the ME Universe.

Nevermind, I googled it and found a thread discussing some Swedish article.

Hmm, I can't think of any good twists that could happen at this point. So either it's a really good twist, or it's a bad/predictable one. If I may buck the trend and take this topic seriously for a minute...

- We don't know yet who Miranda's father was (this is the most obvious potential twist IMO).
- We don't know yet why the Shadow Broker was continuing to investigate the Protheans.
- We don't know why various people in ME2 have got their knickers in a twist over Dark Energy, nor why Haestrom is dying so quickly.

That's all I can think of right now. Did I miss anything?

Thats about it I think and that covers all the stuff I've been thinking about pretty well.

I reckon some of the stuff on how the Mass Relays work is a bit shaky too, I know the Protheans were actually studying how Mass Effect and Mass Effect relays worked before the Reapers got them which is interesting...

Also the Keepers and what is at the core of the Citadel interests me too.

I say this is all a bedtime story! At the end of Mass Effect 3, we will see a human dad holding a book in his hand, reading for his kid, and then the kids goes to sleep. The end. Best ending ever!

I believe the geth will have a major role to play in ME3, and it will be a twist because some major sacrifices will have to be made.

SPOILER ALERT (though not really since game says shep might not survive in loading screens)

Maybe players who killed Shep in ME2 will get to play as Joker with cybernetic leg braces and a gun

Nah. ME series isn't about the twists. Its about the raw, hardcore, action sci-fi people have been crying out for.

Unless of course Shep is a Reaper, a prophecy being fulfilled, or will sacrifice themselves to save everyone.

Yeah...totally wouldn't see that coming.

I have my own theory that is so crazy but I don't really feel like mentioning it. I don't think many people think about it but if it turns out true maybe I'll bump this thread (or make a new one pointing out this post) and say I was right.

I doubt they would do it though cause my idea has some minor plotholes but still...

Why would you bother bumping a thread where you didn't even bother to tell us your theory?
